1 E si partiron da Elim, e giunse tutta la moltitudine dei figliuoli d'Israele nel deserto di Sin, che è tra Elim e Sinai, a' quindici del secondo mese dopo la loro partenza dalla terra d'Egitto.	1 And they set out from Elim. And the entire multitude of the sons of Israel arrived at the desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month, after they departed from the land of Egypt.
2 E tutta la turba dei figliuoli d'Israele mormorò contra Mosè ed Aronne in quella solitudine.	2 And the entire congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.
3 E disser loro i figliuoli d'Israele: Fossimo pur noi rimasi estinti per man del Signore nella terra d'Egitto, quando sedevamo sopra le caldaie piene di carni, e mangiavamo il pane a sazietà: perché ci avete condotti in questo deserto per far morire tutta la gente di fame?	3 And the sons of Israel said to them: “If only we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat around bowls of meat and ate bread until filled. Why have you led us away, into this desert, so that you might kill the entire multitude with famine?”
4 Ma il Signore disse a Mosè: Ecco che io pioverò a voi pane dal cielo: vada il popolo, e raccolga tanto che basti dì per dì: ond'io faccia prova di lui, se cammini, o no secondo la mia legge.	4 Then the Lord said to Moses: “Behold, I will rain down bread from heaven for you. Let the people go out and collect what is sufficient for each day, so that I may test them, as to whether or not they will walk in my law.
5 Ma il sesto dì ne prendano da serbare, e sia il doppio di quel che solevano pigliare per ciascun giorno.	5 But on the sixth day, let them prepare what they use for carrying, and let there be double what they were accustomed to collect on a single day.”
6 E Mosè ed Aronne dissero a tutti i figliuoli d'Israele: Questa sera voi conoscerete, che il Signore è quegli che vi ha tratti dalla terra d'Egitto:	6 And Moses and Aaron said to the sons of Israel: “In the evening, you will know that the Lord has led you away from the land of Egypt.
7 E domattina vedrete la possanza del Signore: imperocché egli ha udito le vostre querele contro di lui. Quanto a noi, che è quel, che noi siamo, onde abbiate a mormorare contro di noi?	7 And in the morning, you will see the glory of the Lord. For he has heard your murmuring against the Lord. But as for us, truly what are we, that you would whisper against us?”
8 E soggiunse Mosè: il Signore questa sera vi darà delle carni da mangiare, e domattina del pane a sazietà; perché egli ha udite le mormorazioni vomitate da voi contro di lui: perocché noi che siamo? non sono contro di noi le vostre mormorazioni, ma contro il Signore.	8 And Moses said: “In the evening, the Lord will give you flesh to eat, and in the morning, bread in fullness. For he has heard your murmurings that you have murmured against him. For what are we? Your murmuring is not against us, but against the Lord.”
9 Disse ancora Mosè ad Aronne: di' a tutta la moltitudine de' figliuoli d'Israele: Presentatevi dinanzi al Signore: perocché egli ha udite le vostre mormorazioni.	9 Moses also said to Aaron: “Say to the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, ‘Approach before the Lord. For he has heard your murmuring.’ ”
10 E in quello che Aronne parlava a tutta la moltitudine de' figliuoli d'Israele, questi volsero gli occhi verso il deserto: ed ecco che la gloria del Signore si fé vedere nella nuvola.	10 And when Aaron spoke to the entire assembly of the sons of Israel, they looked out toward the wilderness. And behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in a cloud.
11 E il Signore parlò a Mosè, e disse:	11 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
12 Ho udite le mormorazioni de' figliuoli d'Israele; tu dirai loro: Questa sera mangerete delle carni, e domattina vi satollerete di pane; e conoscerete, ch'io sono il Signore Dio vostro.	12 “I have heard the murmuring of the sons of Israel. Say to them: ‘In the evening, you will eat flesh, and in the morning, you will be filled with bread. And you shall know that I am the Lord your God.’ ”
13 Fattosi adunque sera vennero le quaglie, che ricopersero gli alloggiamenti: e alla mattina la rugiada era sparsa intorno agli alloggiamenti.	13 Therefore, it happened in the evening: quails, rising up, covered the camp. Likewise, in the morning, a dew lay all around the camp.
14 La quale avendo coperta la superficie della terra, videsi nel deserto una cosa minuta, e come pestata nel mortaio, e simile alla brinata (che cade) sopra la terra.	14 And when it had covered the face of the earth, it appeared, in the wilderness, small and as if crushed with a pestle, similar to hoar-frost on the ground.
15 E veduta che l'ebbero i figliuoli d'Israele, dissero l'uno all'altro: Manhu? vale a dire: Che è questo? Perocché non sapevan che cosa fosse. Disse loro Mosè: Questo è il pane datovi a mangiare dal Signore.	15 When the sons of Israel had seen it, they said one to another: “Manhu?” which means “What is this?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them: “This is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat.
16 Ecco l'ordine dato dal Signore: Ne raccolga ognuno quanto gli basta pel suo nutrimento: così voi ne prenderete un gomor per testa secondo il numero delle anime, che stanno in ciascun tabernacolo.	16 This is the word that the Lord has instructed. Let each one collect as much of it as is sufficient to eat. One omer for each head. According to the number of your souls which live in a tent, so will you take of it.”
17 E fecero così i figliuoli d'Israele: e ne raccolsero gli uni più, e gli altri meno.	17 And the sons of Israel did so. And they collected: some more, others less.
18 E avendolo misurato a tanti gomor, chi ne avea raccolto di più, non ne ebbe in maggior quantità, e chi ne avea raccolto di meno, non ne trovò di meno; ma ciascheduno ne raunò a proporzione di quel che poteva mangiare.	18 And they measured by the measure of an omer. He who collected more, did not have too much; nor did he who prepared less, find too little. But each one gathered according to what they were able to eat.
19 E disse loro Mosè: Nissuno ne serbi pel dimane.	19 And Moses said to them, “Let no one leave any of it behind until morning.”
20 V' ebbe di quelli che non obbedirono a lui, e ne serbarono fino al dì seguente: e cominciò a bulicare di vermi, e si corruppe: e Mosè si adirò contro costoro.	20 And they did not listen to him, but they left some of it behind until morning, and it began to swarm with worms, and it putrefied. And Moses became angry against them.
21 E raunavano ognuno la mattina, quanto bastar poteva pel loro sostentamento: e quando il sole era riscaldato, la manna si squagliava.	21 Then each one collected, in the morning, as much as would be sufficient to eat. And after the sun became hot, it melted.
22 Ma il sesto giorno raccolsero il doppio del cibo, vale a dire due gomor per testa: e andarono tutti i capi della moltitudine a darne parte a Mosè.	22 But on the sixth day, they collected a double portion, that is, two omers for each man. Then all the leaders among the multitude came, and they discoursed with Moses.
23 Il quale disse loro: Questo è quello che ha detto il Signore: Domani è la requie del sabato consacrata al Signore: fate tutto quello che avete da lavorare, e cuocete quel che vi è da cuocere: e quello che avanza, serbatelo per domane.	23 And he said to them: “This is what the Lord has spoken: Tomorrow, the rest day of the Sabbath, has been sanctified to the Lord. Whatever would be done, do it now. And whatever would be cooked, cook it now. Then anything that will have been left over, store it until morning.”
24 E fecero, come avea comandato Mosè: e (la manna) non si guastò, e non vi si trovò nissun verme.	24 And they did just as Moses had instructed, and it did not putrefy, nor were there any worms found in it.
25 E Mosè disse: Questo lo mangerete oggi: non ne troverete nella campagna oggi, perché è il sabato del Signore.	25 And Moses said: “Eat it today, because it is the Sabbath of the Lord. Today it will not be found in the field.
26 Raccoglietelo pei sei giorni: ma il settimo giorno non ne troverete, perché è il sabato del Signore.	26 Gather for six days. But on the seventh day, it is the Sabbath of the Lord, for which reason it will not be found.”
27 E venne il settimo giorno: ed essendo andati alcuni del popolo per raccogliere, non ne trovarono.	27 And the seventh day arrived. And some of the people, going out to collect it, did not find it.
28 E il Signore disse a Mosè: Fino a quando ricuserete di osservare i miei comandamenti, e la mia legge?	28 Then the Lord said to Moses: “How long will you be unwilling to keep my commandments and my law?
29 Riflettete, che il Signore ha dato a voi il sabato, e per questo il sesto giorno ha dato a voi doppio cibo: ognuno se ne stia nella sua tenda: nissuno esca dal suo posto nel settimo giorno.	29 See how the Lord has given you the Sabbath, and, because of this, on the sixth day he distributes to you a double portion. Let each one remain with his own, and let no one go forth from his place on the seventh day.”
30 E il popolo osservò la requie del settimo giorno.	30 And the people kept the Sabbath on the seventh day.
31 E la famiglia d'Israele chiamò quel cibo col nome di Man: ed ella era simile al seme di coriandoli bianco, e nel sapore simile alla farina (impastata) col miele.	31 And the house of Israel called its name ‘Manna.’ It was like white coriander seed, and its taste was like wheat flour with honey.
32 E Mosè disse: Questo è il comando dato dal Signore: Riempine un gomor, e si conservi per le generazioni, che saranno in appresso, affinché veggano di qual pane vi ho nudriti nella solitudine, quando vi ho tratti dalla terra d'Egitto.	32 Then Moses said: “This is the word that the Lord has instructed: Fill an omer of it, and let it be kept for future generations hereafter, so that they may know the bread, with which I nourished you in the wilderness, when you had been led away from the land of Egypt.”
33 E Mosè disse ad Aronne: Prendi un vaso, e mettivi della manna, quanta ne cape un gomor: e riponla dinanzi al Signore per conservarla nelle future vostre generazioni,	33 And Moses said to Aaron, “Take one vessel, and put manna into it, as much as an omer is able to hold. And store it in the sight of the Lord, to keep for your generations,
34 Come ha ordinato a me il Signore. E lo pose Aronne nel tabernacolo per conservarlo.	34 just as the Lord instructed Moses.” And so, Aaron placed it in the tabernacle, in reserve.
35 E i figliuoli d'Israele mangiaron la manna per quarant'anni, fino a tanto che giunsero in terra abitata: con questo cibo furono pasciuti, fino a tanto che giunsero a' confini della terra di Chanaan.	35 Now the sons of Israel ate manna for forty years, until they arrived in a habitable land. With this food they were nourished, even until they touched the borders of the land of Canaan.
36 Il Gomor poi è la decima parte dell'ephi.	36 Now an omer is a tenth part of an ephah.
