1 Contro i figli di Ammon cosi parla il Signore: « Forse Israele non ha figli, non ha eredi? Perchè dunque Melcom s'è impossessato di Gad, e il suo popolo è andato a stare nelle città di Gad?	1 Against the children of Ammon. Thus saith the Lord: Hath Israel no sons? or hath he no heir? Why then hath Melchom inherited Gad: and his people dwelt in his cities ?
2 Per questo, ecco che vengono i giorni — dice il Signore — in cui io farò sentire a Rabba dei figli d'Ammon il fremito della guerra, ed ossa diverrà un mucchio di rovine, e le sue figlie saran date alle fiamme, e Israele sarà padrone di chi lo aveva spadroneggiato dice il Signore.	2 Therefore behold the days come, saith the Lord, and I will cause the noise of war to be heard in Rabbath of the children of Ammon, and it shall be destroyed into a heap, and her daughters shall be burnt with fire, and Israel shall possess them that have possessed him, saith the Lord.
3 Urla, o Esebon, perchè Ai è stata distrutta; alzate le grida, o figli di Rabba, vesti­tevi di cilizi, piangete, girate intorno alle siepi, perchè Melcom sarà portato in esilio insieme ai suoi sacerdoti e ai suoi principi.	3 Howl, O Hesebon, for Hai is wasted. Cry, ye daughters of Rabbath, gird yourselves with haircloth: mourn and go about by the hedges: for Melchom shall be carried into captivity, his priests, and his princes together.
4 A che ti glorii delle tue valli? La tua valle è desolata, o figlia delicata, che fidavi nei tuoi tesori, e dicevi: « Chi oserà venire contro di me? »	4 Why gloriest thou in the valleys? thy valley hath flowed away, O delicate daughter, that hast trusted in thy treasures, and hast said: Who shall come to me?
5 Ecco io farò venire sopra di te lo spavento — dice il Signore Dio degli eserciti — da parte di tutti i tuoi vicini, e sarete dispersi l'uno lungi dalla vista dell'altro, e nessuno potrà radunare i fuggiaschi.	5 Behold I will bring a fear upon thee, saith the Lord God of hosts, from all that are round about thee: and you shall be scattered every one out of one another's sight, neither shall there be any to gather together them that flee.
6 Ma dopo questo io farò ritornare i prigionieri dei figli d'Ammon — dice il Signore ».	6 And afterwards I will cause the captives of the children of Ammon to return, saith the Lord.
7 Contro l'Idumea. Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: « Non v'è forse più sapienza in Teman? Son senza consiglio i suoi figli, non è buona a nulla la loro sapienza.	7 Against Edom. Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Is wisdom no more in Theman? counsel is perished from her children: their wisdom is become unprofitable.
8 Fuggite, volgete le spalle, scendete nelle voragini, o abitanti di Dedan, perchè io ho mandato sopra Esaù la rovina al tempo del suo castigo.	8 Flee and turn your backs, go down into the deep hole, ye inhabitants of Dedan: for I have brought the destruction of Esau upon him, the time of his visitation.
9 Se fossero venuti a te dei vendemmiatori, avrebbero lasciato qualche grappolo, se dei ladri nella notte, avrebbero preso quanto loro bastasse;	9 If grapegatherers had come to thee, would they not have left a bunch? if thieves in the night, they would have taken what was enough for them.
10 ma io ho messo a nudo Esaù, ho messo alla luce ciò che teneva nascosto, e non potrà più star celato. E' sterminata la sua stirpe, i suoi fratelli, i suoi vicini: egli non esisterà più.	10 But I have made Esau bare, I have revealed his secrets, and he cannot be hid: his seed is laid waste, and his brethren, and his neighbours, and he shall not be.
11 Abbandona i tuoi orfani: li farò vivere io e le tue vedove porranno in me la loro speranza.	11 Leave thy fatherless children: I will make them live: and thy widows shall hope in me.
12 Così infatti parla il Signore: Ecco quelli che non eran condannati a bere questo calice lo berranno in tutti i modi; e tu sarai lasciato da parte come innocente? Non sarai trattato come innocente, e lo berrai in tutti i modi;	12 For thus saith the Lord: Behold they whose judgment was not to drink of the cup, shall certainly drink: and shalt thou come off as innocent? thou shalt not come off as innocent, but drinking thou shalt drink.
13 perchè l'ho giurato per me stesso — dice il Signore — Bosra diverrà una solitudine, un obbrobrio, un deserto, una maledizione, e tutte le sue città saranno eterni deserti.	13 For I have sworn by myself, saith the Lord, that Bosra shall become a desolation, and a reproach, and a desert, and a curse: and all her cities shall be everlasting wastes.
14 Ho saputa dal Signore questa notizia, e il messaggero è stato mandato alle genti: « Radunatevi e venite contro di lei; sorgiamo per la battaglia ».	14 I have heard a rumour from the Lord, and an ambassador is sent to the nations: Gather yourselves together, and come against her, and let us rise up to battle.
15 Ecco io t'ho reso piccolo tra le nazioni, dispregevole fra gli uomini.	15 For behold I have made thee a little one among the nations, despicable among men.
16 La tua arroganza t'ha ingannato e la superbia del tuo cuore, o abitatore delle caverne, delle rupi, che ti sforzi d'occupare la sommità della collina. Anche se tu mettessi il tuo nido in alto come l'aquila, io di lassù ti farò cadere — dice il Signore —	16 Thy arrogancy hath deceived thee, and the pride of thy heart: O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, and endeavourest to lay hold on the height of the hill : but though thou shouldst make thy nest as high as an eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the Lord.
17 e l'Idumea sarà deserta, e chiunque vi passerà resterà sbalordito, e fischierà alla vista di tutte le sue piaghe.	17 And Edom shall be desolate: every one that shall pass by it, shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all its plagues.
18 Come fu distrutta Sodoma e Gomorra e le sue vicine — dice il Signore — in essa nessuno abiterà, non vi dimorerà il figlio dell'uomo.	18 As Sodom was overthrown and Gomorrha, and the neighbours thereof, saith the Lord: there shall not a man dwell there, and there shall no son of man inhabit it.
19 Ecco qual leone salirà dal superbo Giordano alla robusta bellezza, perchè io subito lo farò correre a lei. E chi sarà lo scelto ad esserne capo? E chi è simile a me? Chi mi potrà sostenere? E qual pastore potrà resistere alla mia faccia?	19 Behold one shall come up as a lion from the swelling of the Jordan, against the strong and beautiful: for I will make him run suddenly upon her: and who shall be the chosen one whom I may appoint over her? for who is like to m? and who shall abide me? and who is that shepherd that can withstand my countenance?
20 Or dunque state a sentire le risoluzioni che il Signore ha prese riguardo a Edom, e i suoi disegni che ha fatti intorno agli abitanti di Teman: Giuro che i piccoli del gregge li getteranno per terra, e dissiperanno con essi le loro dimore.	20 Therefore hear ye the counsel of the Lord, which he hath taken concerning Edom: and his thoughts which he hath thought concerning the inhabitants of Theman: surely the little ones of the flock shall cast them down, of a truth they shall destroy them with their habitation.
21 Al fracasso della loro rovina si è scossa la terra, il rumore della loro voce s'è sentito dal Mar Rosso.	21 The earth is moved at the noise of their fall: the cry of their voice is heard in the Red Sea.
22 Ecco quasi aquila s'alzerà e volerà, stenderà le sue ali sopra Bosra, e il cuore dei forti d'Idumea sarà inquel giorno come il cuore d'uria donna partoriente ».	22 Behold he shall come up as an eagle, and fly: and he shall spread his wings over Bosra: and in that day the heart of the valiant ones of Edom shall be as the heart of a woman in labour.
23 Contro Damasco. Emat ed Arfad sono nella confusione, perchè han ricevuto una pessima notizia, sono in agitazione (come) sul mare, dall'inquietudine non trovan riposo.	23 Against Damascus. Emath is confounded and Arphad: for they have heard very bad tidings, they are troubled as in the sea: through care they could not rest.
24 Damasco si è sbigottita, s'è data alla fuga, è stata presa dal tremito, l'angoscia e i dolori l'opprimono come donna partoriente.	24 Damascus is undone, she is put to flight, trembling hath seized on her: anguish and sorrows have taken her as a woman in labour.
25 Come hanno abbandonata la città gloriosa, la città dell'allegrezza?	25 How have they forsaken the city of renown, the city of joy !
26 La sua gioventù cadrà sulle piazze, e tutti gli uomini di guerra saran senza parola in quel giorno — dice ilSignore degli eserciti —	26 Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets: and all the men of war shall be silent in that day, saith the Lord of hosts.
27 met­terò il fuoco nelle mura di Dama­sco, e divorerà le mura di Benadad.	27 And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, rind it shall devour the strong holds of Benadad.
28 Contro Cedar e contro i regni di Asor abbattuti da Nabucodoaosor re di Babilonia. Così parla il Signore: « Alzatevi, andate contro Cedar,	28 Against Cedar and against the kingdoms of Asor, which Nabuchodonouor king of Babylon destroyed. Thus saith the Lord: Arise, and go ye up to Cedar, and waste the children of the east.
29 sterminate i figli dell'Oriente ». Saccheggeranno le loro tende e i loro greggi, prenderanno le loro pelli, porteran via i loro bagagli e i loro cammelli, e chiameranno sopra di loro lo spavento da ogni parte.	29 They shall take their tents, and their flocks: and shall carry off for themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels: and they shall call fear upon them round about.
30 Fuggite, andate lontani lontani, rintanatevi nelle caverne, abitatori di Asor,— dice il Signore — perchè Nabucodonosor, re di Babilonia, ha formato contro voi dei disegni, ha maturato contro di voi dei pensieri.	30 Flee ye, get away speedily, sit in deep holes, you that inhabit Asur, saith the Lord: for Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon hath taken counsel against you, and hath conceived designs against you.
31 Alzatevi, an date ad assalire un popolo tranquillo che vive senza timori — dice il Signore — che non ha nè porte nè sbarre, e vive isolato.	31 Arise, and so up to a nation that is at ease, and that dwelleth securely, saith the Lord: they have neither gates, nor bars: they dwell alone.
32 I loro cammelli saranno saccheggiati, e la moltitudine dei loro giumenti sarà vostra preda. Io le disperderò per tutti i venti queste genti che si tagliano in tondo i capelli, e da tutti i loro confini farò piombare sopra di essi la rovina — dice il Signore —	32 And their camels shall be for a spoil, and the multitude of their cattle for a booty, and I will scatter into every wind them that have their hair cut round, and I will bring destruction upon them from I all their confines, saith the Lord.
33 e Asor diverrà tana di dragoni, deserta in eterno, nessuno vi dimorerà, non vi abiterà il figlio dell'uomo.	33 And Asor shall be a habitation for dragons, desolate for ever: no man shall abide there, nor son of man inhabit it.
34 Parola detta dal Signore al profeta Geremia contro l'Elam, al principio del regno di Sedecia re di Giuda, in questi termini:	34 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremias the prophet against Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Sedecias king of Juda, saying:
35 Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: « Ecco io spezzerò l'arco di Elam e tutta la loro forza.	35 Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Behold I will break the bow of Elam, and their chief strength.
36 E scatenerò su Elam i quattro venti dalle quattro parti del cielo, e li disperderò per tutti questi venti; e non vi sarà nazione dove non arrivino i fuggiaschi d'Elam,	36 And I will bring upon Elam the four winds from the fear quarters of heaven: and I will scatter them into all these winds: and there shall be no nation, to which the fugitives of Elam shall not come.
37 e farò tremare Elam davanti ai suoi nemici, davanti a coloro che ne voglion la morte, e farò piombare sopra di essi la sventura, l'ira mia furibonda — dice il Signore — e manderò dietro ad essi la spada fino a che non li abbia distrutti,	37 And I will cause Elam to be afraid before their enemies, and in the sight of them that seek their life: and I will bring evil upon them, my fierce wrath, saith the Lord : and will send the sword after them, till I consume them.
38 e porrò il mio trono in Elam, e di là sterminerò re e principi —dice il Signore; —	38 And I will set my throne in Elam, and destroy kings and princes from thence, saith the Lord.
39 ma negli ultimi giorni io farò tornare i prigionieri di Elam — dice il Signore ».	39 But in the latter days I will cause the captives of Elam, to return, saith the Lord.
