1 Chi teme Dio non incorrerà in alcun male; Dio lo proteggerà nella tentazione e lo libererà dal male.	1 No evil can harm the man who fears the LORD; through trials, again and again he is safe.
2 Il sapiente non odia i comandamenti e la legge, e non darà negli scogli, come nave in tempesta.	2 He who hates the law is without wisdom, and is tossed about like a boat in a storm.
3 L'uomo di senno è fedele alla legge di Dio, e la legge è fedele a lui.	3 The prudent man trusts in the word of the LORD, and the law is dependable for him as a divine oracle.
4 Chi spiega una quistione preparerà il discorso, e così quando pregherà sarà esaudito, raccoglierà la dottrina e al lora risponderà.	4 Prepare your words and you will be listened to; draw upon your training, and then give your answer.
5 Il cuore dello stolto è come la rota d'un carro; e come asse che gira è il suo pensiero.	5 Like the wheel of a cart is the mind of a fool; his thoughts revolve in circles.
6 L'amico finto è come cavallo stallone che nitrisce sotto qualunque cavaliere.	6 A fickle friend is like the stallion that neighs, no matter who the rider.
7 Perché un giorno è da più di un altro, così la luce è da più della luce, e un anno da più dell'altro se (tutto vien) dal sole?	7 Why is one day more important than another, when it is the sun that lights up every day?

10 Di essi alcuni Dio li esaltò e li fece grandi, gli altri li lasciò nel numero dei giorni comuni. E tutti gli uomini li ha fatti dalla polvere, dalla terra donde fu creato Adamo.	10 So too, all men are of clay, for from earth man was formed;
11 Nella grandezza della sua sapienza il Signore li distinse, e ne variò i destini.	11 Yet with his great knowledge the LORD makes men unlike; in different paths he has them walk.
12 Di essi alcuni li benedisse ed esaltò, alcuni li santificò e li prese per sè, altri invece li maledisse, li umiliò e li cacciò dal paese dove stavano ritirati.	12 Some he blesses and makes great, some he sanctifies and draws to himself. Others he curses and brings low, and expels them from their place.
13 Come l'argilla è in mano del vasaio, che la plasma e la dispone	13 Like clay in the hands of a potter, to be molded according to his pleasure, So are men in the hands of their Creator, to be assigned by him their function.
14 e tutta la forma a suo piacimento, così l'uomo è nelle mani di colui che l'ha fatto e lo ricompenserà secondo il suo giudizio.	14 As evil contrasts with good, and death with life, so are sinners in contrast with the just;
15 Di fronte al male sta il bene, contro la morte la vita, così contro all'uomo giusto sta il peccatore. Considera così tutte le opere dell'Altissimo: stanno a due a due, e l'una contro l'altra.	15 See now all the works of the Most High: they come in pairs, the one the opposite of the other.
16 Io poi mi sono svegliato l'ultimo, e sono come chi raspolla dopo i vendemmiatori.	16 Now I am the last to keep vigil, like a gleaner after the vintage;
17 Ma, colla benedizione di Dio. anch'io ho sperato e come vendemmiatore ho riempito il mio tino.	17 Since by the LORD'S blessing I have made progress till like a vintager I have filled my wine press,
18 Considerate che non ho faticato per me solo, ma per tutti quelli che cercano d'istruirsi.	18 I would inform you that not for myself only have I toiled, but for every seeker after wisdom.
19 Ascoltatemi, o grandi, o popoli tutti, capi dell'assemblea, porgete l'orecchio.	19 Listen to me, O leaders of the multitude; O rulers of the assembly, give ear!
20 Al figlio, alla moglie, al fra­tello, all'amico, non dar potere sopra di te finché vivi, non cedere ad altri i tuoi beni, se non vuoi pentirtene ed esser costretto a raccomandarti per averli.	20 Let neither son nor wife, neither brother nor friend, have power over you as long as you live.
21 Finchè vivi e respiri nessuno ti faccia mutar di parere.	21 While breath of life is still in you, let no man have dominion over you. Give not to another your wealth, lest then you have to plead with him;
22 Perchè è meglio che i tuoi figli preghino te, anziché tu abbia a guardare nelle mani dei tuoi figli.	22 Far better that your children plead with you than that you should look to their generosity.
23 In tutte le tue opere resta tu il principale,	23 Keep control over all your affairs; let no one tarnish your glory.
24 e non macchiare la tua gloria. Quando finiscono i tuoi giorni, alla morte, distribuisci la tua eredità.	24 When your few days reach their limit, at the time of death distribute your inheritance.
25 Fieno, bastone e soma all'asino, pane, castigo e lavoro allo schiavo:	25 Fodder and whip and loads for an ass; the yoke and harness and the rod of his master.
26 lavora costretto dalla sferza, cerca riposarsi; se lasci le sue mani oziose cerca la libertà.	26 Make a slave work and he will look for his rest; let his hands be idle and he will seek to be free.
27 Il giogo e le redini fan piegare il collo duro, e il continuo lavoro piega lo schiavo.	27 Food, correction and work for a slave; and for a wicked slave, punishment in the stocks.
28 Al servo cattivo battiture e ceppi: mandalo al lavoro, chè non stia in ozio;	28 Force him to work that he be not idle, for idleness is an apt teacher of mischief.
29 perchè l'ozio insegna molta malizia.	29 Put him to work, for that is what befits him; if he becomes unruly, load him with chains.
30 Impiegalo nei lavori, chè ciò gli conviene, se non obbedisce, piegalo coi ceppi; ma non eccedere con nessuno, e senza giudizio non far nulla di grave.	30 But never lord it over any human being, and do nothing unjust.
31 Se tu hai uno schiavo fedele tienne di conto come della tua vita, trattalo come fratello, perchè l'hai comprato col sangue della tua vita.	31 If you have but one slave, treat him like yourself, for you have acquired him with your life's blood;
32 Se tu lo maltratti ingiustamente, si darà alla fuga.	32 If you have but one slave, deal with him as a brother, for you need him as you need your life:
33 E se, sottraendosi a te, se ne fugge, non sai a chi domandarne, nè per qual via cercarlo.	33 If you mistreat him and he runs away, in what direction will you look for him?
