BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Le veglie per arricchire consumano le carni, e le sue ansie tolgono il sonno.	1 The sleeplessness brought by wealth makes a person lose weight, the worry it causes drives awaysleep.
2 I pensieri dell'avvenire turbano i sensi, e come grave malattia tolgono il sonno.	2 The worries of the daytime prevent you from sleeping, like a serious il ness, they keep sleep at bay.
3 Il ricco faticò per accumulare ricchezze, e nel suo riposo si sazierà dei suoi beni.	3 The rich for ever toils, piling up money, and then, leaving off, he is gorged with luxuries;
4 Il povero lavora per mancanza di sostentamento, e alla fine è privo di tutto.	4 the poor for ever toils, barely making a living, and then, leaving off, is poorer than ever.

11 per questo i suoi beni sono resi stabili nel Signore, e le sue elemosine saran celebrate nell'assemblea dei santi.	11 His fortune wil be firmly based and the assembly wil acclaim his generosity.
12 Se tu siedi a tavola splendida, non essere il primo a spalancar la gola verso di essa.	12 If you are sitting down to a lavish table, do not display your greed, do not say, 'What a lot to eat!'
13 Non dire: « C'è molta roba sulla tavola! »	13 Remember, it is bad to have a greedy eye. Is any creature more wicked than the eye? - That is why itis always weeping!
14 Ricordati che è funesto l'occhio cattivo.	14 Do not reach out for anything your host has his eye on, do not jostle him at the dish.

19 Mangia, come uomo frugale, quello che ti metton davanti, se non vuoi, col mangiar molto, restare antipatico.	19 A little is quite enough for a wel -bred person; his breathing is easy when he lies in bed.
20 Sii il primo a cessare, per buona creanza, ma evita l'eccesso, per non disgustare.	20 A moderate diet ensures sound sleep, one gets up early, in the best of spirits. Sleeplessness,biliousness and gripe are what the glutton has to endure.
21 E se siedi in mezzo a molti, non stender la mano prima di loro, e non essere il primo a chieder da bere.	21 If you are forced to eat too much, get up, go and vomit, and you will feel better.
22 E' piu che sufficiente per un uomo educato un po' di vino; nel dormire non ne avrà disturbi, e non sentirà dolori.	22 Listen to me, my child, do not disregard me, eventually you wil see the force of my words. Bemoderate in al your activities and il ness wil never overtake you.
23 L'insonnia, la colica, gli strazi sono per l'uomo intemperante.	23 People praise the person who keeps a splendid table, and their opinion of his munificence is sound.
24 L'uomo parco ha salubre sonno, dorme fino al mattino, e sta bene in sè.	24 But a niggardly host provokes universal resentment and people wil retail instances of his meanness.
25 Se tu sei stato forzato a mangiare troppo, alzati da tavola e vomita, e ti sentirai meglio, e non attirerai sul tuo corpo malattie.	25 Do not play the valiant at your wine, for wine has been the undoing of many.
26 Figlio, dammi retta, non mi disprezzare, ed a ultimo troverai (vere) le mie parole.	26 The furnace proves the temper of steel, and wine proves hearts in the drinking bouts of braggarts.
27 In ogni tua azione sii diligente, e non incapperai in alcun malore.	27 Wine gives life if drunk in moderation. What is life worth without wine? It came into being to makepeople happy.
28 Chi è splendido nelle vivande è benedetto dalle labbra di molti e la testimonianza resa alla sua generosità è sicura.	28 Drunk at the right time and in the right amount, wine makes for a glad heart and a cheerful mind.
29 Contro chi è tirchio nel pane mormora la città, e la testimonianza resa alla sua spilorceria è vera.	29 Bitterness of soul comes of wine drunk to excess out of temper or bravado.
30 I bravi nel bere il vino non li provocare, perchè il vino ne ha fatti morire molti.	30 Drunkenness excites the stupid to a fury to his own harm, it reduces his strength while leading toblows.
31 Il fuoco prova il duro ferro, così il vino bevuto fino all'ubriachezza fa conoscere il cuore dei superbi.	31 Do not provoke your fel ow-guest at a wine feast, do not make fun of him when he is enjoying himself, do not take him to task or annoy him by reclaiming money owed.
32 Rende la vita conveniente agli uomini il vino usato con sobrietà: se ne beverai con moderazione, sarai sobrio.
33 Che vita può avere chi sta senza vino?
34 Chi priva della vita? La morte.
35 Il vino fu creato da principio per la gioia, non per l'ubriachezza.
36 Rallegra l'anima e il cuore il vino bevuto con moderazione.
37 E' salute per l'anima e pel corpo il bere con sobrietà.
38 Il molto vino è causa d'irritazioni, d'ira e di molto rovine.
39 E' amarezza per l'anima il vino bevuto in quantità.
40 L'animosità dell'ubriachezza è una pietra d'inciampo per lo stolto: fa diminuire le forze ed è causa di ferite.
41 In un banchetto dove si beve vino non riprendere il prossimo, e non lo disprezzare nella sua allegria.
42 Non gli dire parole d'ingiuria, e non lo seccare col chiedergli il tuo.
