BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Non ti vantar del domani, perchè non sai quel che possa produrre il giorno da venire.	1 Do not congratulate yourself about tomorrow, since you do not know what today wil bring forth.
2 Altri ti lodi, non la tua bocca,	2 Let someone else sing your praises, but not your own mouth, a stranger, but not your own lips.
3 un estraneo, non le tue labbra. Grave è la pietra, pesante la sabbia, ma più pesante dell'una e dell'altra è l'ira dello stolto.	3 Heavy is the stone, weighty is the sand; heavier than both -- a grudge borne by a fool.
4 L'ira e l'impetuoso furore non han misericordia, ma l'impeto della gelosia chi potrà sostenerlo?	4 Cruel is wrath, overwhelming is anger; but jealousy, who can withstand that?
5 Meglio riprensione aperta che amore occulto.	5 Better open reproof than feigned love.
6 Son migliori le ferite di chi ama che i falsi baci di chi odia.	6 Trustworthy are blows from a friend, deceitful are kisses from a foe.
7 Chi è satollo calpesterà il favo di miele, ma per chi ha fame è dolce anche l'amaro.	7 The gorged throat revolts at honey, the hungry throat finds al bitterness sweet.
8 Come uccello che va ramingo lungi dal nido, così l'uomo che abbandona il suo posto.	8 Like a bird that strays from its nest, so is anyone who strays away from home.
9 Il cuore trova piacere nell'unguento e nei vari odori, l'anima trova conforto nei buoni consigli d'un amico.	9 Oil and perfume gladden the heart, and the sweetness of friendship rather than self-reliance.
10 Non abbandonare l'amico tuo, nè l'amico di tuo padre e non andare a casa del tuo fratello nel giorno della tua afflizione. Un vicino al fianco vai più d'un fratello da lontano.	10 Do not give up your friend or your father's friend; when trouble comes, do not go off to your brother'shouse, better a near neighbour than a distant brother.
11 Applicati alla sapienza, figlio mio, rallegrami il cuore; così potrai rispondere a chi t'insulta.	11 Learn to be wise, my child, and gladden my heart, that I may have an answer for anyone who insultsme.
12 L'astuto, visto il pericolo, si nasconde, l'incauto passa avanti e ne paga il fio.	12 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.
13 Togli la veste a chi s'è fatto mallevadore per uno straniero, e per i forestieri prendi il pegno a lui.	13 Take the man's clothes! He has gone surety for a stranger. Take a pledge from him, for personsunknown.
14 Colui che benedice il suo prossimo ad alta voce di buon mattino, sarà simile a chi lo maledice.	14 Whoever at dawn loudly blesses his neighbour -- it will be reckoned to him as a curse.

21 Come si prova al crogiolo l'argento e al fornello l'oro, così vien provato l'uomo nella bocca di chi lo loda. Il cuore dell'iniquo cerca il male, il cuore diritto cerca la scienza.	21 A furnace for silver, a foundry for gold: a person is worth what his reputation is worth.
22 Anche se pestassi lo stolto nel mortaio, come si fa dell'orzo, col pestello, non gli leveresti la sua stoltezza.	22 Pound a fool in a mortar, among grain with a pestle, his fol y wil not leave him.

27 il latte delle capre può bastare a nutrirti, al necessario della tua famiglia, al mantenimento delle tue serve.	27 goat's milk sufficient to feed you, to feed your household and provide for your serving girls.
