BIBBIA TINTORI	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Non ti vantar del domani, perchè non sai quel che possa produrre il giorno da venire.	1 Boast not for to morrow, for thou knowest not what the day to come may bring forth.
2 Altri ti lodi, non la tua bocca,	2 Let another praise thee, and not thy own mouth: a stranger, and not thy own lips.
3 un estraneo, non le tue labbra. Grave è la pietra, pesante la sabbia, ma più pesante dell'una e dell'altra è l'ira dello stolto.	3 A stone is heavy, and sand weighty: but the anger of a fool is heavier than them both.
4 L'ira e l'impetuoso furore non han misericordia, ma l'impeto della gelosia chi potrà sostenerlo?	4 Anger hath no mercy, nor fury when it breaketh forth: and who can bear the violence of one provoked?
5 Meglio riprensione aperta che amore occulto.	5 Open rebuke is better than hidden love.
6 Son migliori le ferite di chi ama che i falsi baci di chi odia.	6 Better are the wounds of a friend, than the deceitful kisses of an enemy.
7 Chi è satollo calpesterà il favo di miele, ma per chi ha fame è dolce anche l'amaro.	7 A soul that is full shall tread upon the honeycomb : and a soul that is hungry shall take even bitter for sweet.
8 Come uccello che va ramingo lungi dal nido, così l'uomo che abbandona il suo posto.	8 As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that leaveth his place.
9 Il cuore trova piacere nell'unguento e nei vari odori, l'anima trova conforto nei buoni consigli d'un amico.	9 Ointment and perfumes rejoice the heart: and the good counsels of a friend are sweet to the soul.
10 Non abbandonare l'amico tuo, nè l'amico di tuo padre e non andare a casa del tuo fratello nel giorno della tua afflizione. Un vicino al fianco vai più d'un fratello da lontano.	10 Thy own friend, and thy father's friend forsake not: and go not into thy brother's house in the day of thy affliction. Better is a neighbour that is near, than a brother afar off.
11 Applicati alla sapienza, figlio mio, rallegrami il cuore; così potrai rispondere a chi t'insulta.	11 Study wisdom, my son, and make my heart joyful, that thou mayst give an answer to him that reproacheth.
12 L'astuto, visto il pericolo, si nasconde, l'incauto passa avanti e ne paga il fio.	12 The prudent man seeing evil hideth himself: little ones passing on have suffered losses.
13 Togli la veste a chi s'è fatto mallevadore per uno straniero, e per i forestieri prendi il pegno a lui.	13 Take away his garment that hath been surety for a stranger: and take from him a pledge for strangers.
14 Colui che benedice il suo prossimo ad alta voce di buon mattino, sarà simile a chi lo maledice.	14 He that blesseth his neighbour with a loud voice, rising in the night, shall be like to him that curseth.
15 Lo sgocciolio del tetto nella fredda stagione e la donna litigiosa si somigliano.	15 Roofs dropping through in a cold day, and a contentious woman are alike.
16 Chi la ritiene è come colui che vuol tenere il vento e stringer l'olio nella sua destra.	16 He that retaineth her, is as he that would hold the wind, and shall call in the oil of his right hand.
17 Il ferro si affila col ferro e l'uomo acuisce l'ingegno del suo amico.	17 Iron sharpeneth iron, so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
18 Chi ha cura del fico ne mangerà i frutti, e chi custodisce il suo padrone sarà onorato.	18 He that keepeth the fig tree, shall eat the fruit thereof: and he that is the keeper of his master, shall be glorified.
19 Come nelle acque si riflettono i visi di chi vi si specchia, così i cuori degli uomini son manifesti ai sapienti.	19 As the faces of them that look therein, shine in the water, so-the hearts of men are laid open to the wise.
20 L'inferno e la morte non son mai pieni, così gli occhi degli uomini sono insaziabili.	20 Hell and destruction are never filled: so the eyes of men are never satisfied.
21 Come si prova al crogiolo l'argento e al fornello l'oro, così vien provato l'uomo nella bocca di chi lo loda. Il cuore dell'iniquo cerca il male, il cuore diritto cerca la scienza.	21 As silver is tried in the fining-pot and gold in the furnace: so a man is tried by the mouth of him that praiseth. The heart of the wicked seeketh after evils, but the righteous heart seeketh after knowledge.
22 Anche se pestassi lo stolto nel mortaio, come si fa dell'orzo, col pestello, non gli leveresti la sua stoltezza.	22 Though thou shouldst bray a fool in the mortar, as when a pestle striketh upon sodden barley, his folly would not be taken from him.
23 Bada bene allo stato del tuo gregge, ed abbi cura delle tue mandre,	23 Be diligent to know the countenance of thy cattle, and consider thy own flocks :
24 perchè non ne avrai sempre il possesso: anche la corona è data di generazione in generazione.	24 For thou shalt not always have power: but a crown shall be given to generation and generation.
25 I prati sono aperti, spuntano le verdi erbette, è raccolto il fieno dei monti;	25 The meadows are open, and the green herbs have appeared, and the hay is gathered out of the mountains.
26 e gli agnelli ti forniscon le vesti, i capretti ti pagano il campo;	26 Lambs are for thy clothing: and kids for the price of the field.
27 il latte delle capre può bastare a nutrirti, al necessario della tua famiglia, al mantenimento delle tue serve.	27 Let the milk of the goats be enough for thy food, and for the necessities of thy house, and for maintenance for thy handmaids.
