1 - Parole di Lamuele re di Massa, con cui sua madre l'istruì.	1 The words of king Lamuel. The vision by which his mother instructed him:
2 E che, o mio diletto, e che, diletto delle mie viscere, e che, diletto dei miei voti [ti dirò io]?	2 “What, O my beloved? What, O beloved of my womb? What, O beloved of my vows?
3 Non dare alle donne i tuoi beni, nè le tue ricchezze a ciò ch'è la rovina dei re.	3 Do not give your substance to women, or your riches to overthrow kings.
4 Ai re no, Lamuele, ai re no non dare vino a bere, perchè non c'è nessun segreto dove regna l'ebrietà;	4 Not to kings, O Lamuel, not to kings give wine. For there are no secrets where drunkenness reigns.
5 e può accadere che bevano e si dimentichino delle leggi, e tradiscano la causa dei figli del povero.	5 And perhaps they may drink and forget judgments, and alter the case of the sons of the poor.
6 Date da bere agli afflittie vino a quelli che hanno il cuore amareggiato.	6 Give strong drink to the grieving, and wine to those who are bitter in soul.
7 Bevano e scordino la loro miseria e il loro travaglio più non rammentino.	7 Let them drink, and forget their needs, and remember their sorrow no more.
8 Apri la tua bocca in favore del muto e per la causa di tutti i figli di chi non è più.	8 Open your mouth for the mute and for all the cases of the sons who are passing through.
9 Apri la tua bocca e discerni ciò che è giusto e fa' ragione al bisognoso ed al povero.	9 Open your mouth, declare what is just, and do justice to the indigent and the poor.
10 Una brava donna chi la troverà? ha il pregio delle rarità dei più remoti confini.	10 Who shall find a strong woman? Far away, and from the furthest parts, is her price.
11 Il cuor di suo marito in lei s'affida e non mancherà di nulla.	11 The heart of her husband confides in her, and he will not be deprived of spoils.
12 Gli corrisponderà bene e non male, tutti i giorni di sua vita.	12 She will repay him with good, and not evil, all the days of her life.
13 Si procacciò la lana ed il lino e lavorò industriandosi colle sue mani.	13 She has sought wool and flax, and she has worked these by the counsel of her hands.
14 Fatta simile alla nave d'un mercante: fa venire da lontano il suo sostentamento.	14 She has become like a merchant’s ship, bringing her bread from far away.
15 S'alza che è ancor notte e appresta il vitto alla sua famiglia ed il cibo alle sue ancelle.	15 And she has risen in the night, and given a prey to her household, and provisions to her maids.
16 Avvistò un campo e lo comprò; col frutto delle sue mani, piantò una vigna.	16 She has considered a field and bought it. From the fruit of her own hands, she has planted a vineyard.
17 Cinse di forza i suoi fianchie ingagliardì il suo braccio.	17 She has wrapped her waist with fortitude, and she has strengthened her arm.
18 Con gusto vide che i suoi negozi vanno bene; di notte la sua lucerna non si spegnerà.	18 She has tasted and seen that her tasks are good; her lamp shall not be extinguished at night.
19 Pone mano a lavori utilie le sue dita strinsero il fuso.	19 She has put her hand to strong things, and her fingers have taken hold of the spindle.
20 Allargò la mano al bisognoso e tese le palme al povero.	20 She has opened her hand to the needy, and she has extended her hands to the poor.
21 Non teme, per la sua casa, il freddo della neve, perchè tutti di sua famiglia hanno vesti doppie.	21 She shall not fear, in the cold of snow, for her household. For all those of her household have been clothed two-fold.
22 Si è fatta una veste ricamata, è bisso e porpora il suo indumento.	22 She has made embroidered clothing for herself. Fine linen and purple is her garment.
23 Il marito alle porte è riverito, quando siede con gli anziani del pa ese.	23 Her husband is noble at the gates, when he sits among the senators of the land.
24 Lavorò un manto e lo vendette, e una cintura che consegnò al mercante.	24 She has made finely woven cloth and sold it, and she has delivered a waistband to the Canaanite.
25 Fortezza e decoro è la sua veste e sorride del giorno avvenire.	25 Strength and elegance are her clothing, and she will laugh in the final days.
26 Aprì la sua bocca alla saggezza e sulla sua lingua è la legge della bontà.	26 She has opened her mouth to wisdom, and the law of clemency is on her tongue.
27 Essa stessa sorveglia gli andamenti di casa sua e non mangia il pane nell'oziosità.	27 She has considered the paths of her household, and she has not eaten her bread in idleness.
28 Sorsero i suoi figli e la proclamarono sommamente beata, suo marito anche è un elogio per lei:	28 Her sons rose up and predicted great happiness; her husband rose up and praised her.
29 «Molte figliuole raccolsero dovizia, ma tu le hai tutte superate».	29 Many daughters have gathered together riches; you have surpassed them all.
30 Fallace è la grazia e vana la beltà; la donna che teme Dio, quella avrà lode.	30 Charm is false, and beauty is vain. The woman who fears the Lord, the same shall be praised.
31 Rendete omaggio al frutto delle sue mani, e le sue azioni la celebrino alle porte.	31 Give to her from the fruit of her own hands. And let her works praise her at the gates.
