Siracide 16

BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Non desiderare molti figli buoni a nulla, non rallegrarti dei figli che sono empi.	1 Do not long for a brood of worthless children, and do not take pleasure in godless sons.
2 Siano pur molti, non gioire se sono privi del timore del Signore.	2 However many you have, take no pleasure in them, unless the fear of the Lord lives among them.
3 Non contare sulla loro giovane età e non confidare nel loro numero, perché tu gemerai per un dolore prematuro e d’improvviso conoscerai la loro fine; poiché è preferibile uno a mille e morire senza figli che averne di empi.	3 Do not count on their having long life, do not put too much faith in their number; for better have onethan a thousand, better die childless than have children who are godless.
4 La città sarà ripopolata per opera di un solo saggio, mentre la stirpe degli iniqui verrà distrutta.	4 One person of sense can populate a city, but a race of lawless people will be destroyed.
5 Il mio occhio ha visto molte cose simili, il mio orecchio ne ha sentite anche di più gravi.	5 My eyes have seen many such things, my ears have heard things even more impressive.
6 Nell’assemblea dei peccatori un fuoco si accende, contro un popolo ribelle è divampata l’ira.	6 Fire is kindled in a sinful society, Retribution blazes in a rebel ious nation.
7 Egli non perdonò agli antichi giganti, che si erano ribellati per la loro forza.	7 God did not pardon the giants of old who, confident in their strength, had rebel ed.
8 Non risparmiò i concittadini di Lot, che egli aveva in orrore per la loro superbia.	8 He did not spare the people with whom Lot lived; he abhorred them, rather, for their pride.
9 Non ebbe pietà di un popolo maledetto, che fu scacciato per i suoi peccati. Tutto questo egli fece a nazioni dal cuore duro e per il numero dei suoi santi non fu consolato.	9 He was pitiless to the nation of perdition -- those people who gloried in their sins-
10 Così trattò i seicentomila fanti che avevano congiurato per la durezza del loro cuore. Flagellando, avendo pietà, percuotendo, guarendo, il Signore ha custodito nella pietà e nell’istruzione.	10 as also to the six hundred thousand men on the march, who had banded together in their obstinacy.
11 Ci fosse anche un solo uomo di dura cervice, sarebbe inaudito se restasse impunito, poiché in lui c’è misericordia e ira, potente quando perdona e quando riversa la sua ira.	11 And had there been only one man stubborn, it would have been amazing had he escaped unpunished,since mercy and wrath alike belong to the Lord who is mighty to forgive and to pour out wrath.
12 Tanto grande è la sua misericordia, quanto grande il suo rimprovero; egli giudicherà l’uomo secondo le sue opere.	12 As great as his mercy, so is his severity; he judges each person as his deeds deserve:
13 Non sfuggirà il peccatore con la sua preda, né la pazienza del giusto sarà delusa.	13 the sinner wil not escape with his il -gotten gains nor the patience of the devout go for nothing.
14 Egli riconoscerà ogni atto di misericordia, ciascuno riceverà secondo le sue opere.	14 He takes note of every charitable action, and everyone is treated as he deserves.
15 Il Signore ha indurito il faraone perché non lo riconoscesse, perché fossero note le sue opere sotto il cielo.	15
16 A tutta la creazione la sua misericordia è manifesta, ha dispensato la luce e le tenebre agli uomini.	16
17 Non dire: «Mi nasconderò al Signore! Lassù chi si ricorderà di me? Fra tanta gente non sarò riconosciuto, chi sarò io in mezzo a una creazione immensa?».	17 Do not say, 'I shal hide from the Lord; who is going to remember me up there? I shall not be noticedamong so many people; what am I in the immensity of creation?'
18 Ecco il cielo e il cielo dei cieli, l’abisso e la terra sussultano quando egli appare. Tutto l’universo è stato creato ed esiste per la sua volontà.	18 For see, the sky and the heavens above the sky, the abyss and the earth shake at his visitation.
19 Anche i monti e le fondamenta della terra tremano di spavento quando egli li scruta.	19 The mountains and earth's foundations alike quail and tremble when he looks at them.
20 Ma nessuno riflette su queste cose; al suo modo di agire chi presta attenzione?	20 But to all this no one gives thought. Who keeps his movements in mind?
21 Come un uragano che l’uomo non vede, così molte sue opere sono nascoste.	21 The storm wind itself is invisible, and most of what he does goes undetected.
22 «Chi annuncerà le sue opere di giustizia? O chi aspetterà? L’alleanza infatti è ancora lontana, e il rendiconto di tutto sarà solo alla fine».	22 'Who wil report whether justice has been done? Who wil be watching? The covenant is remote!'
23 Queste cose pensa chi ha il cuore meschino; lo stolto, che si lascia ingannare, pensa sciocchezze.	23 Such are the thoughts of the person of little sense, stupid, misguided, cherishing his fol y.
24 Ascoltami, figlio, e impara la scienza, e nel tuo cuore tieni conto delle mie parole.	24 Listen to me, my child, and learn knowledge, and give your whole mind to my words.
25 Manifesterò con ponderazione la dottrina, con cura annuncerò la scienza.	25 I shal expound discipline methodically and proclaim knowledge with precision.
26 Quando il Signore da principio creò le sue opere, dopo averle fatte ne distinse le parti.	26 When God created his works in the beginning, he assigned them their places as soon as they weremade.
27 Ordinò per sempre le sue opere e il loro dominio per le generazioni future. Non soffrono né fame né stanchezza e non interrompono il loro lavoro.	27 He determined his works for al time, from their origins to their distant generations. They know neitherhunger nor weariness, and they never desert their duties.
28 Nessuna di loro urta la sua vicina, mai disubbidiranno alla sua parola.	28 Not one has ever got in the way of another, and they wil never disobey his word.
29 Dopo ciò il Signore guardò alla terra e la riempì dei suoi beni.	29 And afterwards the Lord looked at the earth, and filled it with his good things.
30 Ne coprì la superficie con ogni specie di viventi e questi ad essa faranno ritorno.	30 He covered its surface with every kind of animal, and to it they wil return.
