1 Figlio mio, non dimenticare il mio insegnamento e il tuo cuore custodisca i miei precetti,	1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments;
2 perché lunghi giorni e anni di vita e tanta pace ti apporteranno.	2 for length of days and years of life and abundant welfare will they give you.
3 Bontà e fedeltà non ti abbandonino: légale attorno al tuo collo, scrivile sulla tavola del tuo cuore,	3 Let not loyalty and faithfulness forsake you; bind them about your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 e otterrai favore e buon successo agli occhi di Dio e degli uomini.	4 So you will find favor and good repute in the sight of God and man.
5 Confida nel Signore con tutto il tuo cuore e non affidarti alla tua intelligenza;	5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight.
6 riconoscilo in tutti i tuoi passi ed egli appianerà i tuoi sentieri.	6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
7 Non crederti saggio ai tuoi occhi, temi il Signore e sta’ lontano dal male:	7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.
8 sarà tutta salute per il tuo corpo e refrigerio per le tue ossa.	8 It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.
9 Onora il Signore con i tuoi averi e con le primizie di tutti i tuoi raccolti;	9 Honor the LORD with your substance and with the first fruits of all your produce;
10 i tuoi granai si riempiranno oltre misura e i tuoi tini traboccheranno di mosto.	10 then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.
11 Figlio mio, non disprezzare l’istruzione del Signore e non aver a noia la sua correzione,	11 My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline or be weary of his reproof,
12 perché il Signore corregge chi ama, come un padre il figlio prediletto.	12 for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.
13 Beato l’uomo che ha trovato la sapienza, l’uomo che ottiene il discernimento:	13 Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gets understanding,
14 è una rendita che vale più dell’argento e un provento superiore a quello dell’oro.	14 for the gain from it is better than gain from silver and its profit better than gold.
15 La sapienza è più preziosa di ogni perla e quanto puoi desiderare non l’eguaglia.	15 She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her.
16 Lunghi giorni sono nella sua destra e nella sua sinistra ricchezza e onore;	16 Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.
17 le sue vie sono vie deliziose e tutti i suoi sentieri conducono al benessere.	17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
18 È un albero di vita per chi l’afferra, e chi ad essa si stringe è beato.	18 She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called happy.
19 Il Signore ha fondato la terra con sapienza, ha consolidato i cieli con intelligenza;	19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens;
20 con la sua scienza si aprirono gli abissi e le nubi stillano rugiada.	20 by his knowledge the deeps broke forth, and the clouds drop down the dew.
21 Figlio mio, custodisci il consiglio e la riflessione né mai si allontanino dai tuoi occhi:	21 My son, keep sound wisdom and discretion; let them not escape from your sight,
22 saranno vita per te e ornamento per il tuo collo.	22 and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck.
23 Allora camminerai sicuro per la tua strada e il tuo piede non inciamperà.	23 Then you will walk on your way securely and your foot will not stumble.
24 Quando ti coricherai, non avrai paura; ti coricherai e il tuo sonno sarà dolce.	24 If you sit down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
25 Non temerai per uno spavento improvviso, né per la rovina degli empi quando essa verrà,	25 Do not be afraid of sudden panic, or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes;
26 perché il Signore sarà la tua sicurezza e preserverà il tuo piede dal laccio.	26 for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.
27 Non negare un bene a chi ne ha il diritto, se hai la possibilità di farlo.	27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.
28 Non dire al tuo prossimo: «Va’, ripassa, te lo darò domani», se tu possiedi ciò che ti chiede.	28 Do not say to your neighbor, "Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it"--when you have it with you.
29 Non tramare il male contro il tuo prossimo, mentre egli dimora fiducioso presso di te.	29 Do not plan evil against your neighbor who dwells trustingly beside you.
30 Non litigare senza motivo con nessuno, se non ti ha fatto nulla di male.	30 Do not contend with a man for no reason, when he has done you no harm.
31 Non invidiare l’uomo violento e non irritarti per tutti i suoi successi,	31 Do not envy a man of violence and do not choose any of his ways;
32 perché il Signore ha in orrore il perverso, mentre la sua amicizia è per i giusti.	32 for the perverse man is an abomination to the LORD, but the upright are in his confidence.
33 La maledizione del Signore è sulla casa del malvagio, mentre egli benedice la dimora dei giusti.	33 The LORD's curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the abode of the righteous.
34 Dei beffardi egli si fa beffe e agli umili concede la sua benevolenza.	34 Toward the scorners he is scornful, but to the humble he shows favor.
35 I saggi erediteranno onore, gli stolti invece riceveranno disprezzo.	35 The wise will inherit honor, but fools get disgrace.
