BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Proverbi di Salomone, figlio di Davide, re d’Israele,	1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:
2 per conoscere la sapienza e l’istruzione, per capire i detti intelligenti,	2 for learning what wisdom and discipline are, for understanding words of deep meaning,
3 per acquistare una saggia educazione, equità, giustizia e rettitudine,	3 for acquiring a disciplined insight, uprightness, justice and fair dealing;
4 per rendere accorti gli inesperti e dare ai giovani conoscenza e riflessione.	4 for teaching sound judgement to the simple, and knowledge and reflection to the young;
5 Il saggio ascolti e accrescerà il sapere, e chi è avveduto acquisterà destrezza,	5 Let the wise listen and learn yet more, and a person of discernment wil acquire the art of guidance.
6 per comprendere proverbi e allegorie, le massime dei saggi e i loro enigmi.	6 for perceiving the meaning of proverbs and obscure sayings, the sayings of the sages and their riddles.
7 Il timore del Signore è principio della scienza; gli stolti disprezzano la sapienza e l’istruzione.	7 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; fools spurn wisdom and discipline.
8 Ascolta, figlio mio, l’istruzione di tuo padre e non disprezzare l’insegnamento di tua madre,	8 Listen, my child, to your father's instruction, do not reject your mother's teaching:
9 perché saranno corona graziosa sul tuo capo e monili per il tuo collo.	9 they wil be a crown of grace for your head, a circlet for your neck.
10 Figlio mio, se i malvagi ti vogliono sedurre, tu non acconsentire!	10 My child, if sinners try to seduce you, do not go with them.
11 Se ti dicono: «Vieni con noi, complottiamo per spargere sangue, insidiamo senza motivo l’innocente,	11 If they say, 'Come with us: let us lie in ambush to shed blood; if we plan an ambush for the innocentwithout provocation,
12 inghiottiamoli vivi come fa il regno dei morti, interi, come coloro che scendono nella fossa;	12 we can swal ow them alive, like Sheol, and whole, like those who sink into oblivion.
13 troveremo ogni specie di beni preziosi, riempiremo di bottino le nostre case,	13 We shal find treasures of every sort, we shall fil our houses with plunder;
14 tu tirerai a sorte la tua parte insieme con noi, una sola borsa avremo in comune»,	14 throw in your lot with us: one purse between us al .'
15 figlio mio, non andare per la loro strada, tieniti lontano dai loro sentieri!	15 My child, do not fol ow them in their way, keep your steps out of their path
16 I loro passi infatti corrono verso il male e si affrettano a spargere sangue.	16 for their feet hasten to evil, they are quick to shed blood;
17 Invano si tende la rete sotto gli occhi di ogni sorta di uccelli.	17 for the net is spread in vain if any winged creature can see it.
18 Ma costoro complottano contro il proprio sangue, pongono agguati contro se stessi.	18 It is for their own blood such people lie in wait, their ambush is against their own selves!
19 Tale è la fine di chi è avido di guadagno; la cupidigia toglie di mezzo colui che ne è dominato.	19 Such are the paths of al who seek dishonest gain: which robs of their lives al who take it for their own.
20 La sapienza grida per le strade, nelle piazze fa udire la voce;	20 Wisdom cal s aloud in the streets, she raises her voice in the public squares;
21 nei clamori della città essa chiama, pronuncia i suoi detti alle porte della città:	21 she cal s out at the street corners, she delivers her message at the city gates.
22 «Fino a quando, o inesperti, amerete l’inesperienza e gli spavaldi si compiaceranno delle loro spavalderie e gli stolti avranno in odio la scienza?	22 'You simple people, how much longer will you cling to your simple ways? How much longer willmockers revel in their mocking and fools go on hating knowledge?
23 Tornate alle mie esortazioni: ecco, io effonderò il mio spirito su di voi e vi manifesterò le mie parole.	23 Pay attention to my warning. To you I wil pour out my heart and tel you what I have to say.
24 Perché vi ho chiamati ma avete rifiutato, ho steso la mano e nessuno se ne è accorto.	24 Since I have cal ed and you have refused me, since I have beckoned and no one has taken notice,
25 Avete trascurato ogni mio consiglio e i miei rimproveri non li avete accolti;	25 since you have ignored al my advice and rejected al my warnings,
26 anch’io riderò delle vostre sventure, mi farò beffe quando su di voi verrà la paura,	26 I, for my part, shall laugh at your distress, I shal jeer when terror befal s you,
27 quando come una tempesta vi piomberà addosso il terrore, quando la disgrazia vi raggiungerà come un uragano, quando vi colpiranno angoscia e tribolazione.	27 when terror befal s you, like a storm, when your distress arrives, like a whirlwind, when ordeal andanguish bear down on you.
28 Allora mi invocheranno, ma io non risponderò, mi cercheranno, ma non mi troveranno.	28 Then they will cal me, but I shal not answer, they wil look eagerly for me and will not find me.
29 Perché hanno odiato la sapienza e non hanno preferito il timore del Signore,	29 They have hated knowledge, they have not chosen the fear of Yahweh,
30 non hanno accettato il mio consiglio e hanno disprezzato ogni mio rimprovero;	30 they have taken no notice of my advice, they have spurned al my warnings:
31 mangeranno perciò il frutto della loro condotta e si sazieranno delle loro trame.	31 so they wil have to eat the fruits of their own ways of life, and choke themselves with their ownscheming.
32 Sì, lo smarrimento degli inesperti li ucciderà e la spensieratezza degli sciocchi li farà perire;	32 For the errors of the simple lead to their death, the complacency of fools works their own ruin;
33 ma chi ascolta me vivrà in pace e sarà sicuro senza temere alcun male».	33 but whoever listens to me may live secure, will have quiet, fearing no mischance.'
