BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Quando Giobbe ebbe finito di parlare, quei tre uomini cessarono di rispondere a Giobbe, perché egli si riteneva giusto.	1 These three men stopped arguing with Job, because he was convinced of his uprightness.
2 Allora si accese lo sdegno di Eliu, figlio di Barachele il Buzita, della tribù di Ram. Si accese di sdegno contro Giobbe, perché pretendeva d'aver ragione di fronte a Dio;	2 But Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite, of the clan of Ram, became very angry. He fumed with rageagainst Job for thinking that he was right and God was wrong;
3 si accese di sdegno anche contro i suoi tre amici, perché non avevano trovato di che rispondere, sebbene avessero dichiarato Giobbe colpevole.	3 and he was equal y angry with the three friends for giving up the argument and thus putting God in thewrong.
4 Però Eliu aveva aspettato, mentre essi parlavano con Giobbe, perché erano più vecchi di lui in età.	4 While they and Job were talking, Elihu had waited, because they were older than he was;
5 Quando dunque vide che sulla bocca di questi tre uomini non vi era più alcuna risposta, Eliu si accese di sdegno.	5 but when he saw that the three men had not another word to say in answer, his anger burst out.
6 Presa dunque la parola, Eliu, figlio di Barachele il Buzita, disse: Giovane io sono di anni e voi siete già canuti; per questo ho esitato per rispetto a manifestare a voi il mio sapere.	6 And Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite began to speak. He said: I am stil young, and you are old, so Iwas shy and hesitant to tel you what I know.
7 Pensavo: Parlerà l'età e i canuti insegneranno la sapienza.	7 I thought, 'Age ought to speak, advancing years wil convey wisdom.'
8 Ma certo essa è un soffio nell'uomo; l'ispirazione dell'Onnipotente lo fa intelligente.	8 There is, you see, a spirit residing in humanity, the breath of God conferring intelligence.
9 Non sono i molti anni a dar la sapienza, né sempre i vecchi distinguono ciò che è giusto.	9 Great age does not give wisdom, nor seniority fair judgement.
10 Per questo io oso dire: Ascoltatemi; anch'io esporrò il mio sapere.	10 And so I ask you for a hearing; now it is my turn to tel what I know.
11 Ecco, ho atteso le vostre parole, ho teso l'orecchio ai vostri argomenti. Finché andavate in cerca di argomenti	11 Up to now, I was hanging on your words, I paid attention to your arguments as each of you chose hiswords.
12 su di voi fissai l'attenzione. Ma ecco, nessuno ha potuto convincere Giobbe, nessuno tra di voi risponde ai suoi detti.	12 I paid very close attention; and I see that none of you has confounded Job, not one of you has refutedwhat he says.
13 Non dite: Noi abbiamo trovato la sapienza, ma lo confuti Dio, non l'uomo!	13 So do not say, 'We have found wisdom; our teaching is divine and not human.'
14 Egli non mi ha rivolto parole, e io non gli risponderò con le vostre parole.	14 I am not going to follow the same line of argument; my reply to Job wil be couched in different terms.
15 Sono vinti, non rispondono più, mancano loro le parole.	15 They are nonplussed for an answer, words have failed them.
16 Ho atteso, ma poiché non parlano più, poiché stanno lì senza risposta,	16 I have been waiting. Since they do not speak, since they have given up the argument,
17 voglio anch'io dire la mia parte, anch'io esporrò il mio parere;	17 now I shal have my say, my turn has come to say what I know.
18 mi sento infatti pieno di parole, mi preme lo spirito che è dentro di me.	18 For I am ful of words and forced to speak by a spirit within me;
19 Ecco, dentro di me c'è come vino senza sfogo, come vino che squarcia gli otri nuovi.	19 within me, it feels like new wine seeking a vent, bursting out of new wine-skins.
20 Parlerò e mi sfogherò, aprirò le labbra e risponderò.	20 To gain relief, I must speak, I must open my lips and reply.
21 Non guarderò in faccia ad alcuno, non adulerò nessuno,	21 I shall not take anyone's side, I shall not flatter anyone.
22 perché io non so adulare: altrimenti il mio creatore in breve mi eliminerebbe.	22 I do not know how to flatter -- or my Creator would make short work of me.
