1 Figliuolo, hai tu peccato? non peccar più: ma fa anche orazione per le colpe passate, affinchè ti sian rimesse.	1 My son, if you have sinned, do so no more, and for your past sins pray to be forgiven.
2 Come della faccia di un serpente, cosi fuggi dal peccato, perché se a lui ti accosterai, ti morderà.	2 Flee from sin as from a serpent. that will bite you if you go near it; Its teeth are lion's teeth, destroying the souls of men.
3 I suoi denti sono denti di leone, che uccidono le anime degli uomini.	3 Every offense is a two-edged sword; when it cuts, there can be no healing.
4 Ogni colpa è come una spada a due tagli: le sue ferite sono insanabili.	4 Violence and arrogance wipe out wealth; so too a proud man's home is destroyed.
5 L'arroganza, e gli oltraggi man dano in fumo le ricchezze: e la casa più facoltosa si spianterà per la superbia; cosi i beni del superbo saranno annichilati.	5 Prayer from a poor man's lips is heard at once, and justice is quickly granted him.
6 Dalla bocca del povero la preghiera giungerà fino alle orecchie di Dio, e tosto sarà a lui renduta giustizia.	6 He who hates correction walks the sinner's path, but he who fears the LORD repents in his heart.
7 L'odiare la correzione è indizio di uom peccatore; ma chi teme Dio rientrerà in se stesso.	7 Widely known is the boastful speaker but the wise man knows his own faults.
8 Il potente si fa conoscere da lungi coll'audacia della lingua; ma l'uom sensato sa schivarlo.	8 He who builds his house with another's money is collecting stones for his funeral mound.
9 Chi la propria casa edifica a spese altrui, è come chi le sue pietre mette insieme per fabbricare nell'inverno.	9 A band of criminals is like a bundle of tow; they will end in a flaming fire.
10 La sinagoga de' peccatori è una massa di stoppa, e la loro fine è il fuoco ardente.	10 The path of sinners is smooth stones that end in the depths of the nether world.
11 La via de' peccatori è lastricata di pietre lisce, ma ella va a finire nell'inferno, nelle tenebre, e ne' tormenti.	11 He who keeps the law controls his impulses; he who is perfect in fear of the LORD has wisdom.
12 Chi custodisce la giustizia, ne comprende lo spirito.	12 He can never be taught who is not shrewd, but one form of shrewdness is thoroughly bitter.
13 La perfezione del timore di Dio è saggezza, e intelligenza.	13 A wise man's knowledge wells up in a flood, and his counsel, like a living spring;
14 Chi non è saggio nel bene, non farà acquisto di scienza.	14 A fool's mind is like a broken jar-- no knowledge at all can it hold.
15 E v'ha una saggezza feconda di male; ma dov' è malizia, non v'è la prudenza.	15 When an intelligent man hears words of wisdom, he approves them and adds to them; The wanton hears them with scorn and casts them behind his back.
16 La scienza del saggio si spande, come una piena d'acque; e i suoi consigli son come una fonte perenne di vita.	16 A fool's chatter is like a load on a journey, but there is charm to be found upon the lips of the wise.
17 Il cuore dell'insensato è come un vaso rotto: ei non può ritenere nissuna parte di saggezza.	17 The views of a prudent man are sought in an assembly, and his words are considered with care.
18 Qualunque buona parola, che ascolti l'uom saggio, la loderà, e se la applicherà: la ascolterà un uom dato al piacere, e gli dispiacerà, e se la getterà dietro alle spalle.	18 Like a house in ruins is wisdom to a fool; the stupid man knows it only as inscrutable words.
19 I discorsi dello stolto son come un fardello per viaggio; ma sulle labbra dell'uom sensato si trova la grazia.	19 Like fetters on the legs is learning to a fool, like a manacle on his right hand.
20 La bocca dell'nom prudente è desiderata nelle adunanze, e le parole di lui ciascuno le medita in cuor suo.	20 A fool raises his voice in laughter, but the prudent man at the most smiles gently.
21 La saggezza è per lo stolto come una casa in rovina, e la scienza dell'insensato consiste in parole inintelligibili.	21 Like a chain of gold is learning to a wise man, like a bracelet on his right arm.
22 La scienza è per lo stolto come ceppi a' piedi, e come catene alla sua destra mano.	22 The fool steps boldly into a house, while the well-bred man remains outside;
23 Il fatuo se ride, alza la voce; ma l'uomo saggio appena sorrìde senza rumore.	23 A boor peeps through the doorway of a house, but a cultured man keeps his glance cast down.
24 La scienza è all'uom prudente un ornamento di oro, e come un braccia letto alla mano destra.	24 It is rude for one to listen at a door; a cultured man would be overwhelmed by the disgrace of it.
25 Lo stolto mette facilmente il pie in casa d'altri, ma l'uomo, che ha sperienza, si vergogna in faccia dei grandi.	25 The lips of the impious talk of what is not their concern, but the words of the prudent are carefully weighed.
26 Lo stolto guarda nella casa per la finestra; ma l'uom discreto se ne sta di fuori.	26 Fools' thoughts are in their mouths, wise men's words are in their hearts.
27 E cosa da stolto lo stare a origliare alla porta: e l'uom prudente non sopporterà simile infamia.	27 When a godless man curses his adversary he really curses himself.
28 Le labbra degli imprudenti raccontano cose assurde: ma le parole de' saggi saran pesate sulla bilancia.	28 A slanderer besmirches himself, and is hated by his neighbors.
29 Il cuor degli stolti è nella loro bocca: e la bocca de' saggj è nel cuor loro.
30 Quando l'empio maledice il diavolo, maledice l'anima propria.
31 Il detrattore contamina l'anima propria, e dapertutto sarà odiato, e chi converserà con lui sarà mal visto: ma l'uomo, che sa tacere; ed ha prudenza, sarà onorato.
