BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Tutto Israele si adunò pres­so David a Ebron e gli disse: « Noi siamo tue ossa e tua carne.	1 Al Israel then ral ied to David at Hebron and said, 'Look, we are your own flesh and bone.
2 Anche per l'addietro, sotto il regno di Saul eri tu che guidavi e riconducevi Israele, perchè il Si­gnore Dio tuo t'ha detto: « Tu pascerai il mio popolo Israele e ne sarai il principe ».	2 In days past when Saul was king, it was you who led Israel on its campaigns, and Yahweh your Godpromised you, "You are to shepherd my people Israel and be leader of my people Israel." '
3 Andati adunque tutti gli anziani d'Israele dal re in Ebron, David fece il patto con loro dinanzi al Signore; e lo unsero re sopra Israele, secondo la parola che il Signore aveva detta per mezzo di Samuele.	3 So al the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a pact with them in Yahweh'spresence at Hebron, and they anointed David as king of Israel, in accordance with the word of Yahweh throughSamuel.
4 Poi David mosse con tutto Israele contro Gerusalemme o Gebus, dove eran i Gebusei abitatori del paese.	4 David and al Israel then marched on Jerusalem (that is to say, Jebus); the inhabitants of the territorywere the Jebusites.
5 Gli abitanti di Gebus dissero a David: « Non potrai entrare qua dentro ». Ma David prese la fortezza di Sion, che è la città di David.	5 The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, 'You wil not get in here.' But David captured the citadel ofZion, that is, the City of David.

Joab son ofZeruiah was the first man to go up, and was made commander of the army.
7 David si stabilì nella fortezza che per questo fu detta città di David.	7 David went to live in the citadel, and that is how it came to be cal ed the City of David.
8 Egli circondò la città di costruzioni, da Mello fino al recinto, e Gioab rifece il resto della città.	8 He then built a wal round the city, al round, beginning from the Mil o, and Joab restored the rest ofthe city.
9 E David andava diventando sempre più grande, perchè il Signore degli eserciti era con lui.	9 Thus David grew stronger and stronger, for Yahweh Sabaoth was with him.
10 Questi sono i primi tra gli uomini forti di David, quelli che l'aiutarono a diventar re sopra Israele, secondo la parola che il Signore aveva detta a Israele.	10 These are David's principal champions who joined forces with him in his kingdom, with al Israel, tomake him king in accordance with the word of Yahweh concerning Israel.
11 Questo è l'elenco dei forti di David: Iesbaam, figlio di Acamoni, il primo dei trenta, il quale brandi la lancia sopra trecento uomini e li feri in una sola volta.	11 This is the roll of David's champions: Jashobeam son of Hachmoni, head of the Three; he it was whobrandished his spear over three hundred men whom he had kil ed at one time.
12 Dopo di lui il figlio del suo zio paterno, Eleazaro, Ahoite, uno dei tre forti.	12 Next, there was Eleazar son of Dodo, the Ahohite, one of the three champions.
13 Egli si trovò con David a Fesdomim, quando i Filistei vi si adunarono per la battaglia; la campagna di quella contrada era piena d'orzo e il popolo era fuggito dinanzi ai Filistei.	13 He was with David at Pas-Dammim when the Philistines mustered for battle there. There was a fieldful of barley there; and the people fled from the Philistines.
14 Fermatisi in mezzo del campo, lo difesero, e percossero i Filistei, avendo il Signore data una gran vittoria al suo popolo.	14 And they took their stand in the middle of the field, held it and cut down the Philistines; and Yahwehbrought about a great victory.
15 Tre fra i trenta capi discesero alla rocca dove stava David, presso la caverna di Odollam, quando i Filistei s'erano accampati nella valle dei Rafaim.	15 Three members of the Thirty went down to David at the rock near the Cave of Adul am while acompany of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of the Rephaim.
16 David era allora nella fortezza e una stazione di Filistei era in Betlem.	16 David was then in the stronghold and there was a Philistine garrison in Bethlehem.
17 David ebbe allora un desiderio e disse: « Oh, chi mi desse dell'acqua della cisterna di Betlem, che è vicina alla porta! »	17 Longingly, David said, 'If only someone would fetch me a drink of water from the wel that stands bythe gate at Bethlehem!'
18 Allora questi tre, passando per mezzo al campo dei Filistei, attinsero dell'acqua alla cisterna di Betlem che era vicina alla porta e la portarono a David, perchè ne bevesse; ma egli ricusò e l'offrì al Si­gnore,	18 At this the three champions, forcing their way through the Philistine camp, drew water from the welthat stands by the gate of Bethlehem and, bringing it away, presented it to David. David, however, would notdrink any of it, but poured it out as a libation to Yahweh.
19 dicendo: « Lungi da me fare tal cosa nel cospetto del mio Dio, e bere il sangue di questi uomini, chè a rischio della loro vita mi han portata quest'acqua ». Per questo non volle bere. Ciò fecero questi tre uomini fortissimi.	19 'God preserve me', he said, 'from doing such a thing! Am I to drink these men's blood? For at the riskof their lives they brought it.' And so he would not drink. Such were the deeds of the three champions.
20 Abisai, fratello di Ioab, era il primo dei tre. Egli pure alzò la lancia contro trecento uomini e li feri a morte, ed era famosissimo fra quei tre,	20 Abishai, brother of Joab, was leader of the Thirty. He it was who brandished his spear over threehundred men whom he had killed, winning himself a name among the Thirty.
21 e illustre fra questi tre secondi e loro capo, però non arrivò ai primi tre.	21 He was a most il ustrious member of the Thirty and became their captain, but he was not equal to theThree.
22 Banaia, figlio di Ioiada, uomo fortissimo compì molte imprese. Era di Cabseel. Egli percosse i due Ariel di Moab e fu lui che scese ad uccidere un leone in mezzo ad una cisterna al tempo della neve;	22 Benaiah son of Jehoiada from Kabzeel was the hero of many exploits; he it was who slaughtered twoformidable Moabites and, one snowy day, climbed down and slaughtered the lion in the storage-wel .
23 fu lui che percosse un Egiziano la cui statura era di cinque cubiti e che aveva una lancia simile ad un subbio da tessitori; egli gli andò contro con un bastone, e strappatagli di mano la lancia, con questa sua lancia l'uccise.	23 He also slaughtered an Egyptian, a man who was seven and a half feet tal . The Egyptian was armedwith a spear in his hand like a weaver's beam, but he took him on with a staff, tore the spear from the Egyptian'shand and kil ed the man with it.
24 Ciò fece Banaia figlio di Ioiada, il quale era famosissimo fra i tre prodi,	24 Such were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, winning him a name among the thirtychampions.
25 il primo dei trenta, però non arrivò ai tre primi. David lo fece suo consigliere.	25 He was a most il ustrious member of the Thirty, but he was not equal to the Three. David put him incommand of his bodyguard.
26 I più valorosi nell'esercito erano Asael, fratello di Gioab, e il figlio di suo zio paterno, Elcanan di Betlem,	26 The military champions were: Asahel brother of Joab; Elhanan son of Dodo, of Bethlehem;
27 e Sammot Arorita, Elles Falonita,	27 Shammoth of Haror; Helez the Pelonite;
28 Ira fi­glio di Acces Tecuita, Abiezer An natotita,	28 Ira son of Ikkesh, of Tekoa; Abiezer of Anathoth;
29 Sobocai Usatita, Hai Ahoita,	29 Sibbecai of Hushah; Ilai of Ahoh;
30 Maharai Netofatita, Heled figlio di Baana Netofatita,	30 Maharai of Netophah; Heled son of Baanah, of Netophah.
31 Etai figlio di Ribai di Gabaat dei figli di Beniamino, Banaia Faratonita,	31 Ithai son of Ribai, of Gibeah in Benjamin. Benaiah of Pirathon;
