1 Ti loderò, Signore, re, e ti canterò, Dio, mio salvatore, loderò il tuo nome,	1 I will give thanks to thee, O Lord and King, and will praise thee as God my Savior. I give thanks to thy name,
2 perché sei stato mio riparo e mio aiuto, salvando il mio corpo dalla perdizione, dal laccio di una lingua calunniatrice, dalle labbra di quelli che proferiscono menzogna, e di fronte a quanti mi circondavano sei stato il mio aiuto	2 for thou hast been my protector and helper and hast delivered my body from destruction and from the snare of a slanderous tongue, from lips that utter lies. Before those who stood by thou wast my helper
3 e mi hai liberato, secondo la grandezza della tua misericordia e del tuo nome, dai morsi di chi stava per divorarmi, dalla mano di quelli che insidiavano la mia vita, dalle molte tribolazioni di cui soffrivo,	3 and didst deliver me, in the greatness of thy mercy and of thy name, from the gnashings of teeth about to devour me, from the hand of those who sought my life, from the many afflictions that I endured,
4 dal soffocamento di una fiamma avvolgente e dal fuoco che non avevo acceso,	4 from choking fire on every side and from the midst of fire which I did not kindle,
5 dal profondo del seno degl’inferi, dalla lingua impura e dalla parola falsa	5 from the depths of the belly of Hades, from an unclean tongue and lying words--
6 e dal colpo di una lingua ingiusta. La mia anima era vicina alla morte, la mia vita era giù, vicino agl’inferi.	6 the slander of an unrighteous tongue to the king. My soul drew near to death, and my life was very near to Hades beneath.
7 Mi assalivano da ogni parte e nessuno mi aiutava; mi rivolsi al soccorso degli uomini, e non c’era.	7 They surrounded me on every side, and there was no one to help me; I looked for the assistance of men, and there was none.
8 Allora mi ricordai della tua misericordia, Signore, e dei tuoi benefici da sempre, perché tu liberi quelli che sperano in te e li salvi dalla mano dei nemici.	8 Then I remembered thy mercy, O Lord, and thy work from of old, that thou dost deliver those who wait for thee and dost save them from the hand of their enemies.
9 Innalzai dalla terra la mia supplica e pregai per la liberazione dalla morte.	9 And I sent up my supplication from the earth, and prayed for deliverance from death.
10 Esclamai: «Signore, padre del mio signore, non mi abbandonare nei giorni della tribolazione, quando sono senz’aiuto, nel tempo dell’arroganza.	10 I appealed to the Lord, the Father of my lord, not to forsake me in the days of affliction, at the time when there is no help against the proud.
11 Io loderò incessantemente il tuo nome, canterò inni a te con riconoscenza». La mia supplica fu esaudita:	11 I will praise thy name continually, and will sing praise with thanksgiving. My prayer was heard,
12 tu infatti mi salvasti dalla rovina e mi strappasti da una cattiva condizione. Per questo ti loderò e ti canterò, e benedirò il nome del Signore.	12 for thou didst save me from destruction and rescue me from an evil plight. Therefore I will give thanks to thee and praise thee, and I will bless the name of the Lord.
13 Quand’ero ancora giovane, prima di andare errando, ricercai assiduamente la sapienza nella mia preghiera.	13 While I was still young, before I went on my travels, I sought wisdom openly in my prayer.
14 Davanti al tempio ho pregato per essa, e sino alla fine la ricercherò.	14 Before the temple I asked for her, and I will search for her to the last.
15 Del suo fiorire, come uva vicina a maturare, il mio cuore si rallegrò. Il mio piede s’incamminò per la via retta, fin da giovane ho seguìto la sua traccia.	15 From blossom to ripening grape my heart delighted in her; my foot entered upon the straight path; from my youth I followed her steps.
16 Chinai un poco l’orecchio, l’accolsi e vi trovai per me un insegnamento abbondante.	16 I inclined my ear a little and received her, and I found for myself much instruction.
17 Con essa feci progresso; onorerò chi mi ha concesso la sapienza.	17 I made progress therein; to him who gives wisdom I will give glory.
18 Ho deciso infatti di metterla in pratica, sono stato zelante nel bene e non me ne vergogno.	18 For I resolved to live according to wisdom, and I was zealous for the good; and I shall never be put to shame.
19 La mia anima si è allenata in essa, sono stato diligente nel praticare la legge. Ho steso le mie mani verso l’alto e ho deplorato che venga ignorata.	19 My soul grappled with wisdom, and in my conduct I was strict; I spread out my hands to the heavens, and lamented my ignorance of her.
20 A essa ho rivolto la mia anima e l’ho trovata nella purezza. In essa ho acquistato senno fin da principio, per questo non l’abbandonerò.	20 I directed my soul to her, and through purification I found her. I gained understanding with her from the first, therefore I will not be forsaken.
21 Le mie viscere si sono commosse nel ricercarla, per questo ho fatto un acquisto prezioso.	21 My heart was stirred to seek her, therefore I have gained a good possession.
22 Il Signore mi ha dato come mia ricompensa una lingua e con essa non cesserò di lodarlo.	22 The Lord gave me a tongue as my reward, and I will praise him with it.
23 Avvicinatevi a me, voi che siete senza istruzione, prendete dimora nella mia scuola.	23 Draw near to me, you who are untaught, and lodge in my school.
24 Perché volete privarvi di queste cose, mentre le vostre anime sono tanto assetate?	24 Why do you say you are lacking in these things, and why are your souls very thirsty?
25 Ho aperto la mia bocca e ho parlato: «Acquistatela per voi senza denaro.	25 I opened my mouth and said, Get these things for yourselves without money.
26 Sottoponete il collo al suo giogo e la vostra anima accolga l’istruzione: essa è vicina a chi la cerca.	26 Put your neck under the yoke, and let your souls receive instruction; it is to be found close by.
27 Con i vostri occhi vedete che ho faticato poco e ho trovato per me un grande tesoro.	27 See with your eyes that I have labored little and found myself much rest.
28 Acquistate l’istruzione con grande quantità d’argento e con essa otterrete molto oro.	28 Get instruction with a large sum of silver, and you will gain by it much gold.
29 L’anima vostra si diletti della misericordia di lui, non vergognatevi di lodarlo.	29 May your soul rejoice in his mercy, and may you not be put to shame when you praise him.
30 Compite la vostra opera per tempo ed egli a suo tempo vi ricompenserà».	30 Do your work before the appointed time, and in God's time he will give you your reward.
