1 Allora sorse Elia profeta, come un fuoco; la sua parola bruciava come fiaccola.	1 Till like a fire there appeared the prophet whose words were as a flaming furnace.
2 Egli fece venire su di loro la carestia e con zelo li ridusse a pochi.	2 Their staff of bread he shattered, in his zeal he reduced them to straits;
3 Per la parola del Signore chiuse il cielo e così fece scendere per tre volte il fuoco.	3 By God's word he shut up the heavens and three times brought down fire.
4 Come ti rendesti glorioso, Elia, con i tuoi prodigi! E chi può vantarsi di esserti uguale?	4 How awesome are you, ELIJAH! Whose glory is equal to yours?
5 Tu hai fatto sorgere un defunto dalla morte e dagl’inferi, per la parola dell’Altissimo;	5 You brought a dead man back to life from the nether world, by the will of the LORD.
6 tu hai fatto precipitare re nella perdizione, e uomini gloriosi dal loro letto.	6 You sent kings down to destruction, and nobles, from their beds of sickness.
7 Tu sul Sinai hai ascoltato parole di rimprovero, sull’Oreb sentenze di condanna.	7 You heard threats at Sinai, at Horeb avenging judgments.
8 Hai unto re per la vendetta e profeti come tuoi successori.	8 You anointed kings who should inflict vengeance, and a prophet as your successor.
9 Tu sei stato assunto in un turbine di fuoco, su un carro di cavalli di fuoco;	9 You were taken aloft in a whirlwind, in a chariot with fiery horses.
10 tu sei stato designato a rimproverare i tempi futuri, per placare l’ira prima che divampi, per ricondurre il cuore del padre verso il figlio e ristabilire le tribù di Giacobbe.	10 You are destined, it is written, in time to come to put an end to wrath before the day of the LORD, To turn back the hearts of fathers toward their sons, and to reestablish the tribes of Jacob.

13 Nulla fu troppo grande per lui, e nel sepolcro il suo corpo profetizzò.	13 Nothing was beyond his power; beneath him flesh was brought back into life.
14 Nella sua vita compì prodigi, e dopo la morte meravigliose furono le sue opere.	14 In life he performed wonders, and after death, marvelous deeds.
15 Con tutto ciò il popolo non si convertì e non rinnegò i suoi peccati, finché non fu deportato dal proprio paese e disperso su tutta la terra. 24 Con grande ispirazione vide gli ultimi tempi e consolò gli afflitti di Sion.	24 By his powerful spirit he looked into the future and consoled the mourners of Zion;
25 Egli manifestò il futuro sino alla fine dei tempi, le cose nascoste prima che accadessero.	25 He foretold what should be till the end of time, hidden things yet to be fulfilled.
