Siracide 33

1 Chi teme il Signore non incorre in alcun male, ma nella prova sarà ancora liberato.	1 No evil can harm the man who fears the LORD; through trials, again and again he is safe.
2 Un uomo saggio non detesta la legge, ma chi finge con essa è come nave in tempesta.	2 He who hates the law is without wisdom, and is tossed about like a boat in a storm.
3 L’uomo assennato ha fiducia nella legge, per lui è degna di fede come un oracolo.	3 The prudent man trusts in the word of the LORD, and the law is dependable for him as a divine oracle.
4 Prepara il tuo discorso e così sarai ascoltato, raccogli il tuo insegnamento e poi rispondi.	4 Prepare your words and you will be listened to; draw upon your training, and then give your answer.
5 Ruota di carro è il sentimento dello stolto, il suo ragionamento è come l’asse che gira.	5 Like the wheel of a cart is the mind of a fool; his thoughts revolve in circles.
6 Un amico beffardo è come uno stallone, nitrisce sotto chiunque lo cavalca.	6 A fickle friend is like the stallion that neighs, no matter who the rider.
7 Perché un giorno è più importante d’un altro, se tutta la luce dell’anno viene dal sole?	7 Why is one day more important than another, when it is the sun that lights up every day?
8 È perché sono stati distinti nel pensiero del Signore, che ha diversificato le stagioni e le feste.	8 It is due to the LORD'S wisdom that they differ; it is through him the seasons and feasts come and go.
9 Ha esaltato e santificato alcuni, altri li ha lasciati nel numero dei giorni ordinari.	9 Some he dignifies and sanctifies, and others he lists as ordinary days.
10 Anche gli uomini provengono tutti dalla polvere e dalla terra fu creato Adamo.	10 So too, all men are of clay, for from earth man was formed;
11 Ma il Signore li ha distinti nella sua grande sapienza, ha diversificato le loro vie.	11 Yet with his great knowledge the LORD makes men unlike; in different paths he has them walk.
12 Ha benedetto ed esaltato alcuni, altri ha santificato e avvicinato a sé; altri ha maledetto e umiliato e ha rovesciato dalle loro posizioni.	12 Some he blesses and makes great, some he sanctifies and draws to himself. Others he curses and brings low, and expels them from their place.
13 Come argilla nelle mani del vasaio che la modella a suo piacimento, così gli uomini nelle mani di colui che li ha creati e li ricompensa secondo il suo giudizio.	13 Like clay in the hands of a potter, to be molded according to his pleasure, So are men in the hands of their Creator, to be assigned by him their function.
14 Di fronte al male c’è il bene, di fronte alla morte c’è la vita; così di fronte all’uomo pio c’è il peccatore.	14 As evil contrasts with good, and death with life, so are sinners in contrast with the just;
15 Considera perciò tutte le opere dell’Altissimo: a due a due, una di fronte all’altra.	15 See now all the works of the Most High: they come in pairs, the one the opposite of the other.
16 Anch’io, venuto per ultimo, mi sono tenuto desto, come uno che racimola dietro i vendemmiatori:	16 Now I am the last to keep vigil, like a gleaner after the vintage;
17 con la benedizione del Signore sono giunto per primo, come un vendemmiatore ho riempito il tino.	17 Since by the LORD'S blessing I have made progress till like a vintager I have filled my wine press,
18 Badate che non ho faticato solo per me, ma per tutti quelli che ricercano l’istruzione.	18 I would inform you that not for myself only have I toiled, but for every seeker after wisdom.
19 Ascoltatemi, o grandi del popolo, e voi che dirigete le assemblee, fate attenzione.	19 Listen to me, O leaders of the multitude; O rulers of the assembly, give ear!
20 Al figlio e alla moglie, al fratello e all’amico non dare un potere su di te finché sei in vita. Non dare ad altri le tue ricchezze, perché poi non ti penta e debba richiederle.	20 Let neither son nor wife, neither brother nor friend, have power over you as long as you live.
21 Finché vivi e in te c’è respiro, non abbandonarti al potere di nessuno.	21 While breath of life is still in you, let no man have dominion over you. Give not to another your wealth, lest then you have to plead with him;
22 È meglio che i figli chiedano a te, piuttosto che tu debba volgere lo sguardo alle loro mani.	22 Far better that your children plead with you than that you should look to their generosity.
23 In tutte le tue opere mantieni la tua autorità e non macchiare la tua dignità.	23 Keep control over all your affairs; let no one tarnish your glory.
24 Quando finiranno i giorni della tua vita, al momento della morte, assegna la tua eredità.	24 When your few days reach their limit, at the time of death distribute your inheritance.
25 Foraggio, bastone e pesi per l’asino; pane, disciplina e lavoro per lo schiavo.	25 Fodder and whip and loads for an ass; the yoke and harness and the rod of his master.
26 Fa’ lavorare il tuo servo e starai in pace, lasciagli libere le mani e cercherà la libertà.	26 Make a slave work and he will look for his rest; let his hands be idle and he will seek to be free.
27 Giogo e redini piegano il collo, per lo schiavo malvagio torture e castighi.	27 Food, correction and work for a slave; and for a wicked slave, punishment in the stocks.
28 Mettilo a lavorare perché non stia in ozio,	28 Force him to work that he be not idle, for idleness is an apt teacher of mischief.
29 perché l’ozio insegna molte cose cattive.	29 Put him to work, for that is what befits him; if he becomes unruly, load him with chains.
30 Mettilo all’opera come gli conviene, e se non obbedisce, stringigli i ceppi. Ma non esagerare con nessuno e non fare nulla contro la giustizia.	30 But never lord it over any human being, and do nothing unjust.
31 Se hai uno schiavo, sia come te stesso, perché l’hai acquistato a prezzo di sangue. Se hai uno schiavo, trattalo come un fratello, perché ne avrai bisogno come di te stesso.	31 If you have but one slave, treat him like yourself, for you have acquired him with your life's blood;
32 Se tu lo maltratti ed egli fuggirà,	32 If you have but one slave, deal with him as a brother, for you need him as you need your life:
33 in quale strada andrai a ricercarlo?	33 If you mistreat him and he runs away, in what direction will you look for him?
