| 3 Trarrò il mio insegnamento da lontano e renderò giustizia al mio creatore | 3 I will bring my knowledge from afar, and to my Maker I will accord the right. |
| 4 perchè in verità le mie parole non sono mendaci: uno perfetto in scienza è qui conte. | 4 For indeed, my theme cannot fail me: the one perfect in knowledge I set before you. |
| 5 Ecco, Dio è potente e non sdegnoso, è potente per la forza del cuore. | 5 Behold, God rejects the obstinate in heart; he preserves not the life of the wicked. |
| 6 Egli non lascia vivere il malvagio e rende giustizia agli oppressi. | 6 He withholds not the just man's rights, but grants vindication to the oppressed, |
| 7 Non leva lo sguardo dai giusti e li stabilisce insieme con i re sopra il trono, esaltandoli per sempre. | 7 And with kings upon thrones he sets them, exalted forever. |
| 8 Se talora sono legati nei ceppi e avvinti dai lacci del dolore, | 8 Or if they are bound with fetters and held fast by bonds of affliction, |
| 9 egli mostra ad essi lé loro opere, i loro misfatti, perchè si inorgoglirono; | 9 Then he makes known to them what they have done and their sins of boastful pride. |
| 10 apre loro l’orecchio alla correzione e dice loro di allontanarsi dal male. | 10 He opens their ears to correction and exhorts them to turn back from evil. |
| 11 Se lo ascoltano, se si sottomettono, chiuderanno i loro giorni nel benessere e i loro anni nelle delizie. | 11 If they obey and serve him, they spend their days in prosperity, their years in happiness. |
| 12 Ma se non l’ascoltano, finiscono male e muoiono per la loro insipienza. | 12 But if they obey not, they perish; they die for lack of knowledge. |
| 13 Quanto ai perversi che montano in collera, che non lo invocano quando se li lega, | 13 The impious in heart lay up anger for themselves; they cry not for help when he enchains them; |
| 14 la loro anima muore nella giovinezza e la loro vita nell’infanzia. | 14 Therefore they expire in youth, and perish among the reprobate. |
| 15 Ma egli salva l’oppresso con la sua oppressione e con la sventura gli fa una rivelazione. | 15 But he saves the unfortunate through their affliction, and instructs them through distress. |
| 16 Egli trarrà anche te dalla gola dell’angustia, al largo, dove non ci sono strettezze, per coprire la tua mensa di grasso. | |
| 17 Ma se giudichi come l’empio, la sua condanna e sentenza ti verranno addosso. | |
| 18 Ma lira non ti trascini all’insulto nè la gravità dell’espiazione ti abbatta. | |
| 19 Può forse liberarti dall’angustia il gridare? O i tuoi sforzi vigorosi? | |
| 20 Non sospirare quella notte in cui i popoli vanno al loro luogo. | 20 |
| 21 Bada di non volgerti all’iniquità per la quale sei stato provato dall'afflizione. | 21 Take heed, turn not to evil; for you have preferred carousal to affliction. |
| 22 Certo, Dio è sublime per la sua potenza: qual dominatore è come lui? | 22 Behold, God is sublime in his power. What teacher is there like him? |
| 23 Chi gli impone norme da seguire? Chi gli può dire: “ Hai fatto male ”’? | 23 Who prescribes for him his conduct, or who can say, "You have done wrong"? |
| 24 Ricorda di esaltare le sue opere che furono sempre cantate dagli uomini. | 24 Remember, you should extol his work, which men have praised in song. |
| 25 Tutti gli uomini le ammirano, tutti le contemplano da lontano. | 25 All men contemplate it; man beholds it from afar. |
| 26 Certo, Dio è grande e non lo comprendiamo, il numero dei suoi anni è incalcolabile. | 26 Lo, God is great beyond our knowledge; the number of his years is past searching out. |
| 27 Egli attira a sè le gocce d’acqua e fonde in pioggia i suoi vapori; | 27 He holds in check the waterdrops that filter in rain through his mists, |
| 28 le nubi la versano, la spandono in abbondanza sugli uomini. | 28 Till the skies run with them and the showers rain down on mankind. |
| 29 Chi comprende la distesa’ delle nuvole? Il rumoreggiare della sua capanna? | |
| 30 Ecco, di sopra spande la luce, di sotto è un mare di tenebre. | 30 Lo! he spreads the clouds in layers as the carpeting of his tent. |
| 31 Con ciò alimenta i popoli e dà loro nutrimento in abbondanza. | 31 For by these he nourishes the nations, and gives them food in abundance. |
| 32 Arma la mano con il fulmine e gli comanda di colpire nel segno. | 32 In his hands he holds the lightning, and he commands it to strike the mark. |
| 33 Il tuono annuncia che egli viene,gli animali lo sentono vicino. | 33 His thunder speaks for him and incites the fury of the storm. |
