| 1 discorsi di Giobbe sono finiti. Quei tre uomini non risposero più nulla a Giobbe poichè era giusto ai loro occhi. | 1 These three men stopped arguing with Job, because he was convinced of his uprightness. |
| 2 Ma Elihu, figlio di Baracheel, il Buzita, della famiglia di Ram, si accese di collera: si accese di collera contro Giobbe, perchè si era proclamato giusto di fronte a Dio; | 2 But Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite, of the clan of Ram, became very angry. He fumed with rageagainst Job for thinking that he was right and God was wrong; |
| 3 e si accese di collera anche con i tre amici di lui, perchè non avevano trovato una risposta, benchè avessero condannato Giobbe. | 3 and he was equal y angry with the three friends for giving up the argument and thus putting God in thewrong. |
| 4 Ora Elihu, perchè quelli erano più vecchi di lui, aveva aspettato per parlare a Giobbe. | 4 While they and Job were talking, Elihu had waited, because they were older than he was; |
| 5 Elihu vide che non c’era più risposta sulla bocca dei tre uomini e si accese di collera. | 5 but when he saw that the three men had not another word to say in answer, his anger burst out. |
| 6 Allora Elihu, figlio di Baracheel, il Buzita, prese la parola e disse: «Io sono giovane d’età e voi già vecchi: perciò ho avuto paura e temo di esporvi il mio parere. | 6 And Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite began to speak. He said: I am stil young, and you are old, so Iwas shy and hesitant to tel you what I know. |
| 7 Mi sono detto: “ Parlerà l’età e i molti anni faranno conoscere la sapienza ”. | 7 I thought, 'Age ought to speak, advancing years wil convey wisdom.' |
| 8 Ma nell’uomo è un’ispirazione ed è il soffio di Shaddai che dà l’intelligenza. | 8 There is, you see, a spirit residing in humanity, the breath of God conferring intelligence. |
| 9 Non i grandi sono saggi nè gli anziani comprendono rettamente. | 9 Great age does not give wisdom, nor seniority fair judgement. |
| 10 Perciò io dico: ‘“ Ascoltatemi, esporrò anch’io il mio pensiero ”. | 10 And so I ask you for a hearing; now it is my turn to tel what I know. |
| 11 Ecco, ho seguito i vostri discorsi, ho teso le orecchie ai vostri ragionamenti, finchè cercavate che cosa dire. Su di voi ho fissato la mia attenzione | 11 Up to now, I was hanging on your words, I paid attention to your arguments as each of you chose hiswords. |
| 12 ed ecco nessuno ha confutato Giobbe, nessuno di voi ha risposto alle sue parole. | 12 I paid very close attention; and I see that none of you has confounded Job, not one of you has refutedwhat he says. |
| 13 Perciò non dite: “Noi abbiamo trovato la sapienza, ma solo Dio può convincerlo, non un uomo ”. | 13 So do not say, 'We have found wisdom; our teaching is divine and not human.' |
| 14 Egli non ha indirizzato a me la parola nè io gli risponderò con le vostre parole: | 14 I am not going to follow the same line of argument; my reply to Job wil be couched in different terms. |
| 15 essì sono sconcertati, non rispondono più, le parole sono venute loro meno. | 15 They are nonplussed for an answer, words have failed them. |
| 16 Io ho aspettato, ma poichè non parlano, poichè stanno lì senza rispondere, | 16 I have been waiting. Since they do not speak, since they have given up the argument, |
| 17 risponderò io per la mia parte, | 17 now I shal have my say, my turn has come to say what I know. |
| 18 esporrò anch’io il mio pensiero: poichè mi sento pieno di parole e lo spirito nel mio interno mi forza. | 18 For I am ful of words and forced to speak by a spirit within me; |
| 19 Ecco: il mio interno è come un vino senza sfogo, come un vino che fa scoppiare gli otri nuovi; | 19 within me, it feels like new wine seeking a vent, bursting out of new wine-skins. |
| 20 parlerò dunque e mi sarà di sollievo, aprirò le labbra e risponderò. | 20 To gain relief, I must speak, I must open my lips and reply. |
| 21 Ma non prenderò la parte di nessuno, non voglio adulare nessuno, | 21 I shall not take anyone's side, I shall not flatter anyone. |
| 22 perchè io non so adulare: il mio creatore mi toglierebbe di mezzo in poco tempo. | 22 I do not know how to flatter -- or my Creator would make short work of me. |
