NOVA VULGATANEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Ne innitaris possessionibus tuis
et ne dixeris: “ Est mihi sufficiens vita ”.
1 Rely not on your wealth; say not: "I have the power."
2 Ne sequaris fortitudinem tuam,
ut ambules in concupiscentiis cordis tui,
2 Rely not on your strength in following the desires of your heart.
3 et ne dixeris: “ Quis praevalebit in me? ”
aut “ Quis me subiciet propter facta mea? ”.
Deus enim vindicans vindicabit.
3 Say not: "Who can prevail against me?" for the LORD will exact the punishment.
4 Ne dixeris: “ Peccavi, et quid mihi accidit triste? ”.
Altissimus enim est patiens redditor.
4 Say not: "I have sinned, yet what has befallen me?" for the LORD bides his time.
5 De propitiato peccato noli esse sine metu
neque adicias peccatum super peccatum
5 Of forgiveness be not overconfident, adding sin upon sin.
6 et ne dicas: “ Miseratio Domini magna est,
multitudinis peccatorum meorum miserebitur ”;
6 Say not: "Great is his mercy; my many sins he will forgive."
7 misericordia enim et ira ab illo cito proximant,
et super peccatores requiescit ira illius.
7 For mercy and anger alike are with him; upon the wicked alights his wrath.
8 Non tardes converti ad Dominum
et ne differas de die in diem.
8 Delay not your conversion to the LORD, put it not off from day to day;
9 Subito enim veniet ira illius,
et in tempore vindictae abripieris.
9 For suddenly his wrath flames forth; at the time of vengeance, you will be destroyed.
10 Ne innitaris divitiis iniustis,
nihil enim proderunt in die calamitatis.
10 Rely not upon deceitful wealth, for it will be no help on the day of wrath.
11 Non ventiles in omnem ventum
et non eas in omnem viam;
sic enim omnis peccator probatur in duplici lingua.
11 Winnow not in every wind, and start not off in every direction.
12 Esto firmus in sensu tuo
et in veritate sensus tui et scientia;
et prosequatur te verbum pacis et iustitiae.
12 Be consistent in your thoughts; steadfast be your words.
13 Esto velox ad audiendum verbum, ut intellegas
et cum tarditate proferas responsum.
13 Be swift to hear, but slow to answer.
14 Si est tibi intellectus, responde proximo;
sin autem, sit manus tua super os tuum,
ne capiaris in verbo indisciplinato et confundaris.
14 If you have the knowledge, answer your neighbor; if not, put your hand over your mouth.
15 Honor et ignominia in sermone;
lingua vero homini subversio est ipsius.
15 Honor and dishonor through talking! A man's tongue can be his downfall.
16 Non appelleris susurro,
et lingua tua ne calumnieris.
16 Be not called a detractor; use not your tongue for calumny;
17 Super furem enim est confusio,
et denotatio pessima super bilinguem,
susurratori autem odium et inimicitia et contumelia.
17 For shame has been created for the thief, and the reproach of his neighbor for the double-tongued.
