Geremia 8

1 In quel tempo — dice il Signore — saran gettate fuori dai loro sepolcri le ossa dei re di Giuda, le ossa dei suoi principi, le ossa dei suoi sacerdoti, le ossa dei suoi profeti, le ossa di quelli che àbitaron Gerusalemme.	1 “In that time, says the Lord, they will cast out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of its leaders, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of those who were living in Jerusalem, from their graves.
2 E saranno esposte al sole e alla luna, e a tutta l'armata del cielo, che amarono, che servirono, che seguirono, che cercarono e adorarono: non saranno raccolte, nè sotterrate, saran come concime sulla faccia della terra.	2 And they will spread them out before the sun and the moon and the entire army of the heavens, which they have loved, and served, and followed, and which they have sought and adored. They will not be collected, and they will not be buried. They will be like manure upon the face of the earth.
3 E anteporranno la morte alla vita tutti quelli che di questa pessima razza resteranno in tutti quei luoghi abbandonati dai eguali io li ho cacciati, — dice Signore degli eserciti.	3 And they will greatly prefer death to life: all those who will have been left from this wicked kindred, in all the forsaken places to which I will cast them out, says the Lord of hosts.
4 E dirà loro: « Così parla il Signore: — Forse chi cade non può rialzarsi, e chi è uscito fuor di strada non ci può ritornare?	4 And you will say to them: Thus says the Lord: He who falls, will he not rise again? And he who has been turned away, will he not return?
5 E perchè dunque questo popolo di Gerusalemme s'è ribellato con ribellione ostinata? Si sono attaccati alla menzogna, e non voglion tornare.	5 Then why have this people in Jerusalem turned away with a contentious loathing? They have taken hold of what is false, and they are not willing to return.
6 Stetti attento, ascoltai: nessuno parla di bene, non c'è chi faccia penitenza del suo peccato e dica: « Che ho fatto? » Tutti continuano la loro corsa, come cavallo che si slancia nella battaglia.	6 I paid close attention and I listened carefully. No one is speaking what is good. There is no one who does penance for his sin, saying: ‘What have I done?’ They have all turned to their own course, like a horse rushing with fury into battle.
7 Nell'aria il nibbio conosce il suo tempo, la tortorella, la rondine e la cicogna osservano il tempo del loro arrivo, ma il mio popolo non ha conosciuta la legge del Signore.	7 The hawk in the heavens has known her time. The turtledove, and the swallow, and the stork have kept the time of their arrival. But my people have not known the judgment of the Lord.
8 Come potete dire: Noi siamo sapienti e abbiam con noi la legge del Signore? — In verità il bugiardo stilo degli scribi ha vergato menzogne.	8 How can you say: ‘We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us?’ Truly, the lying pen of the scribes has wrought falsehood.
9 I sapienti son confusi, atterriti e presi, perchè hanno rigettata la parola del Signore e non hanno punta sapienza.	9 The wise men have been confounded; they were terrified and captured. For they cast aside the word of the Lord, and there is no wisdom in them.
10 Per questo io darò le loro mogli agli stranieri, i loro campi agli eredi, perchè dal più piccolo al più grande tutti si son dati all'avarizia, e, dal profeta al sacerdote, tutti son bugiardi.	10 Because of this, I will give their wives to outsiders and their fields to others as an inheritance. For from the least, even to the greatest, they all pursue avarice; from the prophet, even to the priest, they all act with deceit.
11 Ed han curata con scherni la piaga della figlia del mio popolo, dicendo: « Pace, pace! » e di pace non ce n'era punta.	11 And they healed the destruction of the daughter of my people with disgrace, by saying: ‘Peace, peace,’ though there was no peace.
12 Essi dovrebbero arrossire d'aver fatte cose abominevoli, ma invece la stessa confusione non li ha confusi, non han conosciuta la vergogna, per questo cadranno fra quelli che rovinano, saranno atterrati nel giorno del loro castigo — dice il Signore. —	12 They have been confounded because they committed abomination. Or rather, they have not been confounded with shame, for they do not know how to blush. For this reason, they will fall among the fallen. In the time of their visitation, they will fall, says the Lord.
13 Io li radunerò tutti — dice il Signore: — non c'è uva sulle viti, non ci son fichi sul fico, (son cadute) anche le foglie, ciò che diedi loro se n'è andato.	13 When gathering, I will gather them together, says the Lord. There are no grapes on the vine, and there are no figs on the fig tree. The leaves have fallen. And I have given them the things that have passed away.”
14 Perchè stiamo a sedere? Radunatevi, andiamo nella città forte, stiamoci in silenzio perchè il Signore Dio nostro ci ha ridotti al silenzio, ci ha dato a bere l'acqua di fiele, avendo noi peccato contro il Signore;	14 “Why are we sitting still? Assemble, and let us enter the fortified city, and let us remain silent there. For the Lord our God has brought us to silence, and he has given us the water of gall as a drink. For we have sinned against the Lord.
15 aspettavamo la pace e non è venuto niente di buono, il tempo della guarigione, ed ecco lo spavento.	15 We expected peace, but there was nothing good. We expected a time of health, and behold, dread.”
16 Da Dan si è sentito nitrire i suoi cavalli, dall'alto vociar dei suoi combattenti: trema tutta la terra. Vengono, divorano la terra e tutto ciò che contiene, le città e i loro abitanti.	16 “From Dan, the snorting of his horses was heard; the entire land was shaken by the voice of the neighing of his fighters. And they arrived and devoured the land and its plenitude, the city and its inhabitants.
17 Ecco io vi manderò dei serpenti, dei basilischi da non potersi incantare: essi vi morderanno — dice il Signore.	17 For behold, I will send among you serpents, king snakes, against which there is no charm, and they will bite you, says the Lord.
18 Il mio dolore sorpassa ogni dolore, ho dentro di me il cuore angustiato.	18 My sorrow is beyond sorrow; my heart mourns within me.
19 Ecco il grido della figlia del mio popolo da terra lontana! Non è più in Sion il Signore? Non c'è più il suo re in lei? Perchè dunque m'han provocato a sdegno coi loro idoli, colle vanità straniere?	19 Behold, the voice of the daughter of my people from a far away land. Is the Lord not with Zion, and is her king not within her? Then why have they provoked me to wrath by their graven images, and by their strange vanities?
20 La mietitura è passata, l'estate è finita, e noi siamo stati salvati.	20 The harvest has passed by, the summer is at an end, and we have not been saved.
21 Sono oppresso dallo strazio della figlia del mio popolo, sono nell'angoscia; lo spavento m'ha invaso.	21 Over the destruction of the daughter of my people, I am contrite and saddened; astonishment has taken hold of me.
22 Non c'è più balsamo in Galaad? Non ci son più dei medici per te? Perchè dunque non si è rimarginata la ferita della figlia del mio popolo?	22 Is there no balm in Gilead? Or is there no physician there? Then why has the wound of the daughter of my people not been closed?”
