| 2 E Fassur percosse il profeta Geremia, e lo fece mettere in catene alla porta superiore di Beniamino, nella casa del Signore. | 2 Then Pashhur beat Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper Benjamin Gate of the house of the LORD. |
| 3 Allo spuntar del giorno dopo, Fassur tolse Geremia dalle catene, e Geremia gli disse: « Non Fassur ti chiama il Signore, ma spavento universale. | 3 On the morrow, when Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, "The LORD does not call your name Pashhur, but Terror on every side. |
| 4 Perchè così parla il Signore: « Ecco io ti abbandono allo spavento, te e i tuoi amici: essi cadranno sotto la spada dei loro nemici, e i tuoi occhi vedranno. E abbandonerò tutto Giuda nelle mani del re di Babilonia, e li condurrà a Babilonia, e li ucciderà colla spada. | 4 For thus says the LORD: Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends. They shall fall by the sword of their enemies while you look on. And I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon; he shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword. |
| 5 E abbandonerò tutte le ricchezze di questa città, tutte le sue fatiche, tutte le sue cose preziose, e tutti i tesori dei re di Giuda, li abbandonerò in ma no dei loro nemici, i quali saccheggeranno, toglieranno, porteranno a Babilonia. | 5 Moreover, I will give all the wealth of the city, all its gains, all its prized belongings, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah into the hand of their enemies, who shall plunder them, and seize them, and carry them to Babylon. |
| 6 Tu poi, o Fassur, e tutti quelli che sono in casa tua andrete in schiavitù: tu andrai a Babilonia, e là morrai, là sarai sepolto tu e tutti i tuoi amici ai quali profettizzasti menzogne ». | 6 And you, Pashhur, and all who dwell in your house, shall go into captivity; to Babylon you shall go; and there you shall die, and there you shall be buried, you and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied falsely." |
| 7 Tu mi hai sedotto, o Signore, ed io mi son fatto sedurre, tu sei stato più forte di me, ed hai vinto: son diventato lo scherno di tutto il giorno, tutti sghignazzano su me; | 7 O LORD, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived; thou art stronger than I, and thou hast prevailed. I have become a laughingstock all the day; every one mocks me. |
| 8 perchè già da gran tempo io parlo, grido contro l'iniquità ed annunzio ad alta voce la distruzione; e la parola del Signore mi attira l'infamia e lo scherno tutto il giorno. | 8 For whenever I speak, I cry out, I shout, "Violence and destruction!" For the word of the LORD has become for me a reproach and derision all day long. |
| 9 E io a dire: « Non lo ricorderò più, non parlerò più in suo nome ». Ma ecco nel mio cuore come un fuoco divorante, chiuso nelle mie ossa, ed io venni meno, non potendo più tollerarlo. | 9 If I say, "I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name," there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot. |
| 10 Infatti ho sentito gli oltraggi della moltitudine e lo spavento all'intorno: — Perseguitatelo, perseguitiamolo — (ho sentito dire) da tutti gli uomini con cui era in pace, mi stanno ai fianchi (a spiare e dicono): — Se in qualche modo egli cadesse in errore, noi prevarremo contro di lui e su di fui potremo vendicarci. — | 10 For I hear many whispering. Terror is on every side! "Denounce him! Let us denounce him!" say all my familiar friends, watching for my fall. "Perhaps he will be deceived, then we can overcome him, and take our revenge on him." |
| 11 Ma‘ con me è il Signore, come forte guerriero, per questo i miei persecutori cadranno e diverranno impotenti, saranno oltremodo confusi per non aver capito l'obbrobrio sempiterno che non sarà mai cancellato. | 11 But the LORD is with me as a dread warrior; therefore my persecutors will stumble, they will not overcome me. They will be greatly shamed, for they will not succeed. Their eternal dishonor will never be forgotten. |
| 12 E tu, o Signore degli eserciti che provi il giusto, che vedi gli affetti e il cuore, fammi vedere la tua vendetta contro di loro, perchè a te ho rimessa la mia causa. | 12 O LORD of hosts, who triest the righteous, who seest the heart and the mind, let me see thy vengeance upon them, for to thee have I committed my cause. |
| 13 Cantate al Signore, lodate il Signore, perchè liberò l'anima del povero dalla mano dei cattivi. | 13 Sing to the LORD; praise the LORD! For he has delivered the life of the needy from the hand of evildoers. |
| 14 Maledetto sia il giorno in cui nacqui, il giorno in cui mi partorì la mia madre non sia benedetto. | 14 Cursed be the day on which I was born! The day when my mother bore me, let it not be blessed! |
| 15 Maledetto sia l'uomo che l'annunziò a mio padre, dicendo: « T'è nato un bambino maschio » e quasi lo riempi di gioia. | 15 Cursed be the man who brought the news to my father, "A son is born to you," making him very glad. |
| 16 Quell'uomo sia come le città che il Signore distrusse senza alcun pentimento, se ne ascoltino le grida al mattino e gli urli al mezzogiorno. | 16 Let that man be like the cities which the LORD overthrew without pity; let him hear a cry in the morning and an alarm at noon, |
| 17 Perchè non mi fece morire nel seno materno, in modo che la mia madre fosse il mio sepolcro ed io fossi in eterno chiuso nel suo seno? | 17 because he did not kill me in the womb; so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb for ever great. |
| 18 Perchè uscii dal suo seno, a vedere l'affanno e il dolore, a finire nell'ignominia i miei giorni? | 18 Why did I come forth from the womb to see toil and sorrow, and spend my days in shame? |
