| 2 Parole dette a lui dal Signore nei giorni di Giosia figlio di Ammon, re di Giuda, il tredicesimo anno del suo regno, | 2 to whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign. |
| 3 e nei giorni di Ioaehim, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, fino al termine dell'undicesimo anno di Sedecia, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, fino alla trasmigrazione di Gerusalemme, nel quinto mese. | 3 It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, and until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the captivity of Jerusalem in the fifth month. |
| 4 Il Signore mi indirizzò la parola e disse: | 4 Now the word of the LORD came to me saying, |
| 5 « Avanti di formarti nel seno di tua madre ti conobbi, avanti che tu uscissi dal seno ti santificai, e ti stabilii profeta alle nazioni ». | 5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations." |
| 6 E io dissi: « Ah, ah, ah! Signore Dio! Io non so parlare, perchè sono un fanciullo ». | 6 Then I said, "Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth." |
| 7 Il Signore mi disse: « Non dire: Sono un fanciullo, perchè tu, qualunque commissione t'affiderò, la farai, e dirai tutto quello che io t'ordinerò: | 7 But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a youth'; for to all to whom I send you you shall go, and whatever I command you you shall speak. |
| 8 non temere davanti a loro, perchè ci son io con te a liberarti, — dice il Signore — ». | 8 Be not afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD." |
| 9 Poi il Signore stese la sua mano e toccò la mia bocca, e mi disse il Signore: « Ecco metto le mie parole nella tua bocca, | 9 Then the LORD put forth his hand and touched my mouth; and the LORD said to me, "Behold, I have put my words in your mouth. |
| 10 ecco ti stabilisco in questo giorno sopra le nazioni e sopra i regni, perchè tu sradichi e distrugga, disperda e dissipi, edifichi e pianti ». | 10 See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant." |
| 11 E il Signore mi parlò e disse: « Che vedi, Geremia? » Ed io risposi: « Io vedo una verga che veglia ». | 11 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, "Jeremiah, what do you see?" And I said, "I see a rod of almond." |
| 12 E il Signore mi disse: « Tu hai visto bene, perchè io veglierò sopra la mia parola per compirla ». | 12 Then the LORD said to me, "You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it." |
| 13 Poi il Signore mi parlò di nuovo e disse: « Che vedi? » Ed io risposi: « Io vedo una caldaia che bolle e che viene dalla parte del settentrione ». | 13 The word of the LORD came to me a second time, saying, "What do you see?" And I said, "I see a boiling pot, facing away from the north." |
| 14 E il Signore mi disse: « Dal settentrione i mali si diffonderanno sopra tutti gli abitanti della terra; | 14 Then the LORD said to me, "Out of the north evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land. |
| 15 perchè ecco che io convocherò tutte le famiglie dei regni del settentrione — dice il Signore — ed esse verranno, e porrà ciascuna il suo trono all'entrata delle porte di Gerusalemme, sopra tutta la cinta delle sue mura, e in tutte le città di Giuda. | 15 For, lo, I am calling all the tribes of the kingdoms of the north, says the LORD; and they shall come and every one shall set his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, against all its walls round about, and against all the cities of Judah. |
| 16 Ed io esporrò loro i miei giudizi riguardo a tutta la malizia di coloro che mi hanno abbandonato ed han fatte libazioni agli dèi stranieri, ed hanno adorato l'opera delle loro mani. | 16 And I will utter my judgments against them, for all their wickedness in forsaking me; they have burned incense to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands. |
| 17 Tu adunque cingi i tuoi fianchi, alzati e di' loro tutto quello che ti ordino io. Non ti spaventare davanti a loro, perchè io farò in modo che tu non tema la loro presenza. | 17 But you, gird up your loins; arise, and say to them everything that I command you. Do not be dismayed by them, lest I dismay you before them. |
| 18 Ecco oggi io ti ho reso una città forte, una colonna di ferro, una muraglia di bronzo sopra tutta la terra, contro i re di Giuda e i suoi principi, contro i sacerdoti e il popolo del paese. | 18 And I, behold, I make you this day a fortified city, an iron pillar, and bronze walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, its princes, its priests, and the people of the land. |
| 19 Essi ti faran guerra, ma non avranno il sopravvento, perchè 10 son con te per liberarti — dice il Signore ». | 19 They will fight against you; but they shall not prevail against you, for I am with you, says the LORD, to deliver you." |
