BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Onora il medico a causa della necessità, perchè l'ha creato l'Altissimo.	1 Treat the doctor with the honour that is his due, in consideration of his services; for he too has beencreated by the Lord.
2 Infatti ogni medicina vien da Dio e riceverà dei doni dal re.	2 Healing itself comes from the Most High, like a gift received from a king.
3 Per la sua scienza il medico porterà alta la testa e sarà celebrato dinanzi ai grandi.	3 The doctor's learning keeps his head high, and the great regard him with awe.
4 L'Altissimo ha fatto uscire dalla terra i medicamenti, e l'uomo prudente non li sdegna.	4 The Lord has brought forth medicinal herbs from the ground, and no one sensible wil despise them.
5 E non fu resa dolce da un legno l'acqua amara?	5 Did not a piece of wood once sweeten the water, thus giving proof of its power?
6 Venni e a conoscenza dell'uomo la loro virtù, e l'Altissimo diede agli uomini la scienza per essere onorato nelle sue maraviglie.	6 He has also given some people knowledge, so that they may draw credit from his mighty works.
7 Per esse il medico mitiga il dolore, e lo speziale fa i suoi profumi soavi e compone unguenti salutari; e non sono (ancora) terminati i loro lavori,	7 He uses these for healing and relieving pain; the druggist makes up a mixture from them.
8 che la pace di Dio sarà sopra la faccia della terra.	8 Thus, there is no end to his activities; thanks to him, well-being exists throughout the world.
9 Figlio, nella tua malattia non disprezzare te stesso, ma prega il Signore, ed Egli ti guarirà.	9 My child, when you are il , do not rebel, but pray to the Lord and he wil heal you.
10 Allontanati dal peccato, regola le tue azioni e purifica il tuo cuore da ogni colpa.	10 Renounce your faults, keep your hands unsoiled, and cleanse your heart from al sin.
11 Offri odor soave e il memoriale di fior di farina, impingua l'oblazione, e poi dà luogo al medico,	11 Offer incense and a memorial of fine flour, make as rich an offering as you can afford.
12 perchè il Signore l'ha creato. Non si allon tani da te, perchè c'è bisogno dell'opera sua.	12 Then let the doctor take over -- the Lord created him too -- do not let him leave you, for you need him.
13 Verrà il tempo in cui dovrai cadere nelle loro mani,	13 There are times when good health depends on doctors.
14 ed essi pregheranno il Signore a rendere efficaci i loro lenitivi per la sanità alla quale è diretta la loro professione.	14 For they, in their turn, wil pray the Lord to grant them the grace to relieve and to heal, and so prolongyour life.
15 Chi pecca davanti a colui che lo creò cadrà nelle mani del medico.	15 Whoever sins in the eyes of his Maker, let such a one come under the care of the doctor!
16 Figliolo, spargi lacrime sopra il morto, e, come per crudele strazio, comincia i lamenti, e, secondo il dovere, copri il suo corpo e non trascurarne la sepoltura.	16 My child, shed tears over the dead, lament for the dead to show your sorrow, then bury the body withdue ceremony and do not fail to honour the grave.
17 Per evitar mormorazioni fai amaro lutto per lui durante un giorno, ma poi datti pace, per fuggir la tristezza.	17 Weep bitterly, beat your breast, observe the mourning the dead deserves for a day or two, to avoidcensorious comment, and then be comforted in your sorrow;
18 E fa il lutto secondo il merito della persona: un giorno o due per evitar le maldicenze.	18 for grief can lead to death, a grief-stricken heart loses al energy.
19 Perchè la tristezza affretta la morte, fiacca le forze, e la malinconia del cuore curva il collo.	19 In affliction sorrow persists, a life of grief is hard to bear.
20 Portato via (il morto), rimane la tristezza, e la vita del povero è secondo il suo cuore.	20 Do not abandon your heart to grief, drive it away, bear your own end in mind.
21 Non abbandonare il tuo cuore alla tristezza, ma cacciala da te e ricordati del fine.	21 Do not forget, there is no coming back; you cannot help the dead, and you will harm yourself.
22 Non te ne dimenticare: non si ritorna in qua, nulla gioverai al morto, e farai del male a te stesso.	22 'Remember my doom, since it will be yours too; I yesterday, you today!'
23 Ricordati del mio destino, che sarà pure il tuo: ieri a me, oggi a te.	23 Once the dead are laid to rest, let their memory rest, do not fret for them, once their spirit departs.
24 Come riposa il morto lascia riposare la sua memoria, consolalo quando il suo spirito si parte da lui.	24 Leisure gives the scribe the chance to acquire wisdom; a man with few commitments can grow wise.
25 La sapienza dello scriba esige tempo libero dagli affari: chi ha poco da fare acquisterà la sapienza. E di qual sapienza sarà ripieno	25 How can the ploughman become wise, whose sole ambition is to wield the goad, driving his oxen,engrossed in their work, his conversation limited to bul ocks,
26 chi tiene l'aratro e mette la sua gloria, come nella lancia, nello stimolare col pungolo i buoi, e, tutto occupato nei loro lavori, non parla d'altro che di vitelli?	26 his thoughts absorbed in the furrows he traces and his long evenings spent in fattening heifers?
27 Mette ogni suo pensiero nel tirar solchi e le sue veglie nell'ingrassar vacche.	27 Similarly with al workmen and craftsmen, toiling day and night; those who engrave seals, for evertrying to think of a new design, concentrating on catching a good likeness and staying up late to get the workdone.
28 Così ogni legnaiolo e l'architetto che passano la notte e il giorno nel lavoro; e chi incide emblemi per sigilli: con assiduo lavoro ne varia la figura, mette il suo pensiero nel ritrarre l'imagine, e colle sue veglie perfezionerà il lavoro.	28 Similarly with the blacksmith sitting by his anvil; he considers what to do with the pig-iron, the breath ofthe fire scorches his skin, as he contends with the heat of the furnace; the noise of the hammer deafens him, hiseyes are fixed on the pattern; he concentrates on getting the job done wel and stays up late to apply thefinishing touches.
29 Così il fabbro, seduto presso l'incudine, intento a lavorare il ferro: il vapore del fuoco gli cuoce le carni e egli si schermisce dal calore della fornace:	29 Similarly with the potter, sitting at his work, turning the wheel with his feet; constantly on the alert overhis work, each flick of the finger premeditated;
30 il rumore del martello ne rintronano le orecchie; tien gli occhi fissi al modello del lavoro,	30 he pummels the clay with his arm, and with his feet he kneads it; he concentrates on applying theglaze right and stays up late to clean the kiln.
31 mette il suo pensiero nel finire il lavoro, e le sue veglie nell'adornarlo a perfezione.	31 Al these people rely on their hands and each is skilled at his own craft.
32 Così il vasaio: seduto al suo lavoro, coi piedi fa girar la rota, sempre ansioso pel suo lavoro, mette ogni sua opera nel far numero;	32 A town could not be inhabited without them, there would be no settling, no travel ing.
33 Colle sue braccia dà forma alla creta, davanti ai suoi piedi la rende flessibile,	33 But you wil not find them in the parliament, they do not hold high rank in the assembly. They do not siton the judicial bench, and they do not meditate on the Law.
34 mette il suo pensiero alla perfetta verniciatura, e le sue veglie nel pulire la fornace.	34 They are not remarkable for their culture or judgement, nor are they found frequenting thephilosophers. They sustain the structure of the world, and their prayer is concerned with their trade.
35 Tutti questi sperano nelle loro mani, e ognuno di essi è sapiente nel suo mestiere.
36 Senza di loro non si fabbrica una città;
37 ma essi non vi abiteranno, non vi passeggeranno. non entreranno nell'adunanza;
38 non sederanno sopra il seggio del giudice, non comprenderanno le disposizioni del diritto, non parleranno in pubblico di istruzione e di giustizia, non si troveranno occupati nelle parabole.
39 Ma essi ripareranno le cose del mondo, la loro preghiera è per i lavori del mestiere; applicheranno il loro spirito a ricercare la legge dell'Altissimo.
