Proverbi 22

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Una buona riputazione vai più di molte ricchezze, l'essere in buona grazia vai più dell'argento e dell'oro.	1 Fame is preferable to great wealth, favour, to silver and gold.
2 Il ricco e il povero si vanno incontro, li ha fatti tutt'e due il Signore.	2 Rich and poor rub shoulders, Yahweh has made them both.
3 L'astuto vede il male, e si nasconde, il semplicione tira innanzi, e ne paga il fio.	3 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.
4 Frutto della modestia è il timor del Signore, la ricchezza, la gloria, la vita.	4 The reward of humility is the fear of Yahweh, and riches, honour and life.
5 Armi e spade son nella via del perverso: chi ha cura dell'anima propria ne sta lontano.	5 Thorns and snares line the path of the wilful, whoever values life will stay at a distance.
6 E' un proverbio: « Il giovanetto, presa che abbia la sua strada, non se ne allontanerà neppur da vecchio ».	6 Give a lad a training suitable to his character and, even when old, he wil not go back on it.
7 Il ricco comanda ai poveri, e chi prende in prestito è servo dell'usuraio.	7 The rich lords it over the poor, the borrower is the lender's slave.
8 Chi semina ingiustizie mieterà sciagure, e sarà consumato dalla verga del suo furore.	8 Whoever sows injustice reaps disaster, and the rod of such anger wil disappear.
9 Chi si fa prendere dalla compassione sarà benedetto, perchè del suo pane ha fatto parte ai poveri. Chi largisce doni otterrà vittoria ed onore, perchè rapisce il cuore, di chi riceve.	9 A kindly eye wil earn a blessing, such a person shares out food with the poor.
10 Caccia via il beffardo, e con lui se ne andrà la discordia, cesseran le liti e gli oltraggi.	10 Expel the mocker and strife goes too, law-suits and dislike die down.
11 Chi ama la purità del cuore, per le grazie del suo parlare avrà il re amico.	11 Whoever loves the pure of heart and is gracious of speech has the king for a friend.
12 Gli occhi del Signore custodiscono la scienza, e rendon vane le parole dell'iniquo.	12 Yahweh's eyes protect knowledge, but he confounds deceitful speeches.
13 Dice il pigro: « Fuori c'è un leone, sarò sbranato in mezzo alla piazza ».	13 'There is a lion outside,' says the idler, 'I shal be kil ed in the street!'
14 Fossa profonda è la bocca dell'adultera, colui contro il quale è adirato il Signore vi cadrà.	14 The mouth of an adulterous woman is a deep pit, into it fal s the man whom Yahweh rebukes.
15 La stoltezza sta legata al cuore del fanciullo, la verga della disciplina la farà fuggire.	15 Fol y is anchored in the heart of a youth, the whip of instruction wil rid him of it.
16 Chi opprime il povero per aver più ricchezze, le cederà ad uno più ricco, e sarà nella miseria.	16 Harsh treatment enriches the poor, but a gift impoverishes the rich.
17 Porgi il tuo orecchio, ascolta le parole dei saggi, e poni mente ai miei insegnamenti.	17 Give ear, listen to the sayings of the sages, and apply your heart to what I know,
18 I quali saran per te belli, se li custodirai nel fondo del tuo cuore e ne ridonderanno i tuoi labbri.	18 for it wil be a delight to keep them deep within you to have them al ready on your lips.
19 Affinché la tua fiducia sia riposta in Dio, per questo io oggi te li ho esposti.	19 So that your trust may be in Yahweh, it is you whom I wish to instruct today.
20 Ecco per tre volte li ho scritti, con riflessione e scienza,	20 Have I not written for you thirty chapters of advice and knowledge,
21 per farti conoscere la certezza delle parole della, verità, per rispondere a quelli che ti hanno mandato.	21 to make you know the certainty of true sayings, so that you can return with sound answers to thosewho sent you?
22 Non usar prepotenza col povero, perchè è povero, non opprimere il miserabile alla porta.	22 Do not despoil the weak, for he is weak, and do not oppress the poor at the gate,
23 Perché il Signore ne giudicherà la causa e trafiggerà coloro che gli han trafitta l'anima.	23 for Yahweh takes up their cause, and extorts the life of their extortioners.
24 Non fare amicizia coll'uomo iracondo, non andare coll'uomo furioso.	24 Do not make friends with one who gives way to anger, make no one quick-tempered a companion ofyours,
25 Che tu non abbia a imparare il suo modo di agire, e non ne prenda scandalo l'anima tua.	25 for fear you learn such behaviour and in it find a snare for yourself.
26 Non star con quelli che impegnano le loro mani e si offrono mallevadori per chi ha debiti.	26 Do not be one of those who go guarantor, who go surety for debts:
27 Se non hai con che pagare, perchè esporti a farti portar via la coperta dal tuo letto?	27 if you have no means of paying your bed wil be taken from under you.
28 Non oltrepassare i termini antichi posti dai tuoi padri.	28 Do not displace the ancient boundary-stone set by your ancestors.
29 Hai veduto un uomo spedito nel suo lavoro? Egli starà davanti ai re e non andrà a servire gente oscura.	29 You see someone alert at his business? His aim wil be to serve kings; not for him the service of theobscure.
