1 Or un giorno, quando i figli di Dio andarono a presentarsi davanti al Signore, vi andò tra loro anche Satana a presentarsi.	1 Another day, the sons of God came to attend on Yahweh and Satan came with them too.
2 Il Signore disse a Satana: « Donde vieni? » Quello rispondendo disse: « Ho fatto il giro della terra e l'ho scorsa ».	2 So Yahweh said to Satan, 'Where have you been?' 'Prowling about on earth,' he answered, 'roamingaround there.'
3 E il Signore a Satana: « Hai notato il mio servo Giobbe, come sulla terra non vi sia chi gli somigli, uomo semplice e retto, timorato di Dio e alieno dal male, ed ancora nella sua innocenza? Tu mi hai incitato contro di lui e me l'hai fatto affliggere senza motivo ».	3 So Yahweh asked him, 'Did you pay any attention to my servant Job? There is no one like him on theearth: a sound and honest man who fears God and shuns evil. He persists in his integrity stil ; you achieved nothing by provoking me to ruin him.'
4 Satana gli rispose: « Pelle per pelle: l'uomo darà quanto possiede per la propria vita.	4 'Skin after skin!' Satan replied. 'Someone wil give away al he has to save his life.
5 Ma stendi la tua mano a toccare le sue ossa e la sua carne, e vedrai allora come ti maledirà in faccia ».	5 But stretch out your hand and lay a finger on his bone and flesh; I warrant you, he wil curse you to yourface.'
6 Il Signore pertanto disse a Satana: « Ecco, egli è in tua balia, però salvagli la vita ».	6 'Very wel ,' Yahweh said to Satan, 'he is in your power. But spare his life.'
7 Or Satana, partitosi dal cospetto del Signore, colpì Giobbe con piaga maligna dalla pianta dei piedi fino al vertice del capo.	7 So Satan left the presence of Yahweh. He struck Job down with malignant ulcers from the sole of hisfoot to the top of his head.
8 Giobbe, preso un coccio, si raschiava la marcia, seduto sopra un letamaio.	8 Job took a piece of pot to scrape himself, and went and sat among the ashes.
9 Sua moglie gli diceva: « Perseveri ancora nella tua semplicità? Ringrazia Dio e muori ».	9 Then his wife said to him, 'Why persist in this integrity of yours? Curse God and die.'
10 Ma Giobbe le rispose: « Tu parli come una scimunita. Se abbiamo ricevuto dalla mano di Dio i beni, perchè non accettarne anche i mali? » In tutto questo, Giobbe non peccò colle sue labbra.	10 'That is how a fool of a woman talks,' Job replied. 'If we take happiness from God's hand, must we nottake sorrow too?' And in al this misfortune Job uttered no sinful word.
11 Or tre amici di Giobbe, sentite tutte le sventure accadutegli, vennero ciascuno dal suo paese: Elifaz da Teman, Baldad da Suhe, Sofar da Naama, avendo convenuto d'andare insieme a visitarlo e consolarlo.	11 The news of al the disasters that had fal en on Job came to the ears of three of his friends. Each ofthem set out from home -- Eliphaz of Teman, Bildad of Shuah and Zophar of Naamath -- and by commonconsent they decided to go and offer him sympathy and consolation.
12 Quando, alzati da lontano gli occhi, non lo poterono riconoscere, piansero ad alte grida, e, stracciatesi le vesti, gettaron polvere in aria sopra il loro capo.	12 Looking at him from a distance, they could not recognise him; they wept aloud and tore their robes andthrew dust over their heads.
13 Poi si sedettero accanto a lui per terra sette giorni e sette notti; ma nessuno di essi gli rivolgeva la parola, perchè vedevano che il dolore era troppo grande.	13 They sat there on the ground beside him for seven days and seven nights. To Job they spoke never aword, for they saw how much he was suffering.
