Prima lettera ai Tessalonicesi 5

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Quanto al tempo e al momento, o fratelli, non avete bisogno che ve ne scriva;	1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you
2 voi stessi sapete benissimo che il dì del Signore verrà come un ladro di notte.	2 for you are wel aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night.
3 Quando diranno: «Pace e sicurezza», allora improvvisa sopraggiungerà la rovina, come le doglie del parto a donna incinta, e non sfuggiranno.	3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction fal s on them, assuddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape.
4 Ma voi, o fratelli, non siete nelle tenebre, sì che quel giorno vi abbia a sorprendere come un ladro;	4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief.
5 poichè siete tutti figli della luce e figli del giorno; noi non siamo della notte nè delle tenebre.	5 No, you are al children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness,
6 Adunque non dormiamo come gli altri, ma vegliamo e siamo sobrii.	6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober.
7 Poichè quei che dormono, dormon di notte, e quei che si inebriano, s'inebriano di notte;	7 Night is the time for sleepers to sleep and night the time for drunkards to be drunk,
8 ma noi figli del giorno, siamo sobrii, rivestendo la corazza della fede e della carità, e prendendo per elmo la speranza della salvezza;	8 but we belong to the day and we should be sober; let us put on faith and love for a breastplate, and thehope of salvation for a helmet.
9 poichè Iddio non ci ha destinati all'ira ma all'acquisto della salvezza per mezzo del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo,	9 God destined us not for his retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 morto per noi, affinchè, sia che vegliamo sia che dormiamo, insieme con lui viviamo.	10 who died for us so that, awake or asleep, we should stil live united to him.
11 Perciò consolatevi a vicenda, ed edificatevi l'un l'altro, come state facendo.	11 So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another, as you do already.
12 Vi preghiamo poi, o fratelli, di riconoscere quelli che faticano tra voi e vi guidano nel Signore e vi danno consigli;	12 We appeal to you, my brothers, to be considerate to those who work so hard among you as yourleaders in the Lord and those who admonish you.
13 abbiateli in amore grande per l'opera loro. Vivete in pace fra voi.	13 Have the greatest respect and affection for them because of their work. Be at peace amongyourselves.
14 E vi esortiamo, o fratelli, ammonite i disordinati, confortate i pusillanimi, sostenete i deboli, siate pazienti con tutti.	14 We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are undisciplined, encourage the apprehensive,support the weak and be patient with everyone.
15 Badate che nessuno renda altrui male per male, ma sempre fatevi del bene a vicenda e verso tutti.	15 Make sure that people do not try to repay evil for evil; always aim at what is best for each other and foreveryone.
16 Sempre state allegri,	16 Always be joyful;
17 e pregate senza cessar mai.	17 pray constantly;
18 In ogni cosa rendete grazie, poichè questa è la volontà di Dio manifestata a voi in Gesù Cristo.	18 and for al things give thanks; this is the wil of God for you in Christ Jesus.
19 Non spegnete lo spirito.	19 Do not stifle the Spirit
20 Le profezie tenetele in conto.	20 or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt;
21 Tutto esaminate, ritenete il bene.	21 test everything and hold on to what is good
22 Da ogni specie di male astenetevi.	22 and shun every form of evil.
23 Lo stesso Dio della pace vi santifichi in modo completo, e tutto l'essere vostro, lo spirito, l'anima e il corpo, sia conservato irreprensibilmente alla venuta del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo.	23 May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be keptblameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Chi vi ha chiamato è fedele, e farà anche questo.	24 He who has cal ed you is trustworthy and wil carry it out.
25 Fratelli, pregate per noi.	25 Pray for us, my brothers.
26 Salutate tutti i fratelli col bacio santo.	26 Greet al the brothers with a holy kiss.
27 Vi scongiuro pel Signore che questa lettera sia letta da tutti i santi fratelli.	27 My orders, in the Lord's name, are that this letter is to be read to al the brothers.
