1 Egli ricerca la sapienza di tutti gli antichi e si dedica allo studio delle profezie.	1 Not so with one who concentrates his mind and his meditation on the Law of the Most High. Heresearches into the wisdom of al the Ancients, he occupies his time with the prophecies.

3 ricerca il senso recondito dei proverbi e si occupa degli enigmi delle parabole.	3 He researches into the hidden sense of proverbs, he ponders the obscurities of parables.
4 Svolge il suo compito fra i grandi, lo si vede tra i capi, viaggia in terre di popoli stranieri, sperimentando il bene e il male in mezzo agli uomini.	4 He enters the service of princes, he is seen in the presence of rulers. He travels in foreign countries, hehas experienced human good and human evil.
5 Gli sta a cuore alzarsi di buon mattino per il Signore, che lo ha creato; davanti all’Altissimo fa la sua supplica, apre la sua bocca alla preghiera e implora per i suoi peccati.	5 At dawn and with al his heart he turns to the Lord his Creator; he pleads in the presence of the MostHigh, he opens his mouth in prayer and makes entreaty for his sins.
6 Se il Signore, che è grande, vorrà, egli sarà ricolmato di spirito d’intelligenza: come pioggia effonderà le parole della sua sapienza e nella preghiera renderà lode al Signore.	6 If such be the wil of the great Lord, he wil be filled with the spirit of intel igence, he wil shower forthwords of wisdom, and in prayer give thanks to the Lord.
7 Saprà orientare il suo consiglio e la sua scienza e riflettere sui segreti di Dio.	7 He will grow upright in purpose and learning, he will ponder the Lord's hidden mysteries.
8 Manifesterà la dottrina del suo insegnamento, si vanterà della legge dell’alleanza del Signore.	8 He will display the instruction he has received, taking his pride in the Law of the Lord's covenant.
9 Molti loderanno la sua intelligenza, egli non sarà mai dimenticato; non scomparirà il suo ricordo, il suo nome vivrà di generazione in generazione.	9 Many wil praise his intel igence and it wil never be forgotten. His memory will not disappear,generation after generation his name will live.
10 I popoli parleranno della sua sapienza, l’assemblea proclamerà la sua lode.	10 Nations wil proclaim his wisdom, the assembly will celebrate his praises.
11 Se vivrà a lungo, lascerà un nome più famoso di mille altri e quando morrà, avrà già fatto abbastanza per sé.	11 If he lives long, his name will be more glorious than a thousand others, and if he dies, that wil satisfyhim just as wel .

15 Magnificate il suo nome e proclamate la sua lode, con i canti delle labbra e con le cetre, e nella vostra acclamazione dite così:	15 Declare the greatness of his name, proclaim his praise with song and with lyre, and this is how youmust sing his praises:
16 Quanto sono belle tutte le opere del Signore! Ogni suo ordine si compirà a suo tempo!	16 'How wonderful, the actions of the Lord! Whatever he orders is done at the proper time!' You must notsay, 'What is this? Why is that?' There is a proper time for every question.
17 Non bisogna dire: «Che cos’è questo? Perché quello?». Tutto infatti sarà esaminato a suo tempo. Alla sua parola l’acqua si arresta come una massa, a un detto della sua bocca si aprono i serbatoi delle acque.	17 At his word, the water stops and piles up high, at his voice, the watery reservoirs take shape,
18 A un suo comando si realizza quanto egli vuole, e nessuno potrà sminuire la sua opera di salvezza.	18 at his command, whatever he wants is done, no one can stop him, if he intends to save.
19 Le opere di ogni uomo sono davanti a lui, non è possibile nascondersi ai suoi occhi;	19 He can see whatever human beings are doing, nothing can be hidden from his eye;
20 egli guarda da un’eternità all’altra, nulla è straordinario davanti a lui.	20 his gaze stretches from eternity to eternity, and nothing can astonish him.
21 Non bisogna dire: «Che cos’è questo? Perché quello?». Tutto infatti è stato creato con uno scopo preciso.	21 You must not say, 'What is this? Why is that?' for everything has been made for a purpose.
22 La sua benedizione si diffonde come un fiume e come un diluvio inebria la terra.	22 As his blessing covers the dry land like a river and soaks it like a flood,
23 Così i popoli erediteranno la sua ira, come trasformò le acque in deserto salato.	23 so retribution is his legacy to the nations, just as he has turned fresh waters to salt.
24 Le sue vie sono diritte per i santi, ma per gli empi sono piene d’inciampi.	24 His ways are as smooth for the devout, as they are ful of obstacles for the wicked.
25 Per i buoni i beni furono creati sin da principio, allo stesso modo i mali per i peccatori.	25 Good things were created from the beginning for good people, as bad ones were for sinners.
26 Le cose di prima necessità per la vita dell’uomo sono: acqua, fuoco, ferro, sale, farina di frumento, latte, miele, succo di uva, olio e vestito.	26 The prime needs of human beings for living are water and fire, iron and salt, wheat-flour, milk andhoney, the juice of the grape, oil and clothing.
27 Tutte queste cose sono un bene per i buoni, allo stesso modo si volgono in male per i peccatori.	27 Al these are good for those who are good, but turn out bad for sinners.
28 Ci sono venti creati per castigare e nella loro furia rafforzano i loro flagelli; quando verrà la fine, scateneranno violenza e placheranno lo sdegno del loro creatore.	28 Some winds have been created for punishing, in his fury, he uses them as scourges; on the day ofdoom, they unleash their violence and appease the wrath of their Creator.

30 Denti delle fiere, scorpioni, vipere e spade vendicatrici sono per la rovina degli empi.	30 Wild animals' fangs, scorpions, vipers, the avenging sword for the ruin of the godless:
31 Si rallegrano quando lui li comanda, stanno pronti sulla terra secondo il bisogno e al momento opportuno non trasgrediscono la sua parola.	31 all of them exult in discharging his orders, ready on earth whenever the need arises and, when theirtime comes, not fal ing short of his word.
32 Di questo ero convinto fin dal principio, vi ho riflettuto e l’ho messo per iscritto:	32 That is why I was determined from the outset, why I have pondered and why I have written,
33 «Le opere del Signore sono tutte buone; egli provvederà a ogni necessità a suo tempo».	33 'The works of the Lord are all good, when the time is right, he gives whatever is needed.
