1 Meglio un tozzo di pane secco con tranquillità che una casa piena di banchetti con discordia.	1 Better is a dry morsel with joy, than a house full of victims with strife.
2 Lo schiavo intelligente prevarrà su un figlio disonorato e avrà parte con i fratelli all’eredità.	2 A wise servant shall rule over foolish sons, and shall divide the inheritance among the brethren.
3 Il crogiuolo è per l’argento e il forno per l’oro, ma chi prova i cuori è il Signore.	3 As silver is tried by fire, and gold in the furnace: so the Lord trieth the hearts.
4 Il malfattore presta attenzione a un labbro maldicente, il bugiardo ascolta una lingua nociva.	4 The evil man obeyeth an unjust tongue: and the deceitful hearkeneth to lying lips.
5 Chi deride il povero offende il suo creatore, chi gioisce per colui che va in rovina non resterà impunito.	5 He that despiseth the poor, reproacheth his Maker; and he that rejoiceth at another man's ruin, shall not be unpunished.
6 Corona dei vecchi sono i figli dei figli, onore dei figli i loro padri.	6 Children's children are the crown of old men: and the glory of children are their fathers.
7 Non s’addice all’insensato un linguaggio elevato, ancor meno al principe un linguaggio falso.	7 Eloquent words do not become a fool, nor lying lips a prince.
8 Il regalo di corruzione è come un talismano per chi lo possiede: dovunque egli si volga ottiene successo.	8 The expectation of him that expecteth, is a most acceptable jewel: whithersoever he turneth himself, he understandeth wisely.
9 Chi copre la colpa cerca l’amicizia, ma chi la divulga divide gli amici.	9 He that concealeth a transgression. seeketh friendships: he that repeateth it again, separateth friends.
10 Fa più effetto un rimprovero all’assennato che cento percosse allo stolto.	10 A reproof availeth more with a wise man, than a hundred stripes with a fool.
11 Il malvagio non cerca altro che la ribellione, ma gli sarà mandato contro un messaggero senza pietà.	11 An evil man always seeketh quarrels: but a cruel angel shall be sent against him.
12 Meglio incontrare un’orsa privata dei figli che uno stolto in preda alla follia.	12 It is better to meet a bear robbed of her whelps, than a fool trusting in his own folly.
13 A chi rende male per bene non si allontanerà la sventura dalla sua casa.	13 He that rendereth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
14 Iniziare un litigio è come aprire una diga; prima che la lite si esasperi, troncala.	14 The beginning of quarrels is as when one letteth out water: before he suffereth reproach he forsaketh judgment.
15 Assolvere il reo e condannare il giusto: ecco due cose che il Signore ha in orrore.	15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, both are abominable before God.
16 A che serve il denaro in mano allo stolto? Per comprare la sapienza, se non ha senno?	16 What doth it avail a fool to have riches, seeing he cannot buy wisdom? He that maketh his house high, seeketh a downfall: and he that refuseth to learn, shall fall into evils.
17 Un amico vuol bene sempre, è nato per essere un fratello nella sventura.	17 He that is a friend loveth at all times: and a brother is proved in distress.
18 È privo di senno l’uomo che dà la sua mano e si fa garante per il suo prossimo.	18 A foolish man will clap hands, when he is surety for his friend.
19 Chi ama la rissa ama il delitto, chi ingrandisce la sua porta cerca la rovina.	19 He that studieth discords, loveth quarrels: and he that exalteth his door, seeketh ruin.
20 Chi ha un cuore perverso non troverà mai felicità e chi ha la lingua tortuosa cadrà in rovina.	20 He that is of a perverse heart, shall not find good: and he that perverteth his tongue, shall fall into evil.
21 Chi genera uno stolto ne avrà afflizione; non gioirà il padre di uno sciocco.	21 A fool is born to his own disgrace: and even his father shall not rejoice in a fool.
22 Un cuore lieto fa bene al corpo, uno spirito depresso inaridisce le ossa.	22 A joyful mind maketh age flourishing: a sorrowful spirit drieth up the bones.
23 L’iniquo accetta regali sotto banco per deviare il corso della giustizia.	23 The wicked man taketh gifts out of the bosom, that he may pervert the paths of judgment.
24 L’uomo prudente ha la sapienza davanti a sé, ma gli occhi dello stolto vagano in capo al mondo.	24 Wisdom shineth in the face of the wise: the eyes of fools are in the ends of the earth.
25 Un figlio stolto è un tormento per il padre e un’amarezza per colei che lo ha partorito.	25 A foolish son is the anger of the father: and the sorrow of the mother that bore him.
26 Certo non è bene punire chi ha ragione, colpire gente perbene è contro la giustizia.	26 It is no good thing to do hurt to the just: nor to strike the prince, who judgeth right.
27 Chi è parco di parole possiede la scienza e chi è di spirito calmo è un uomo prudente.	27 He that setteth bounds to his words. is knowing and wise: and the man of understanding is of a precious spirit.
28 Anche lo stolto, se tace, passa per saggio, e per intelligente se tiene chiuse le labbra.	28 Even a fool, if he will hold his peace shall be counted wise: and if he close his lips, a man of understanding.
