BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Hijo, no prives al pobre del sustento, ni dejes en suspenso los ojos suplicantes.	1 My child, do not refuse the poor a livelihood, do not tantalise the needy.
2 No entristezcas al que tiene hambre, no exasperes al hombre en su indigencia.	2 Do not add to the sufferings of the hungry, do not bait anyone in distress.
3 No te ensañes con el corazón exasperado, no hagas esperar la dádiva al mendigo.	3 Do not aggravate a heart already angry, nor keep the destitute waiting for your alms.
4 No rechaces al suplicante atribulado, ni apartes tu rostro del pobre.	4 Do not repulse a hard-pressed beggar, nor turn your face from the poor.
5 No apartes del mendigo tus ojos, ni des a nadie ocasión de maldecirte.	5 Do not avert your eyes from the needy, give no one occasion to curse you;
6 Pues si maldice en la amargura de su alma, su Hacedor escuchará su imprecación.	6 for if someone curses you in distress, his Maker will give ear to the imprecation.
7 Hazte querer de la asamblea, ante un grande baja tu cabeza.	7 Gain the love of the community, in the presence of the great bow your head.
8 Inclina al pobre tus oídos, responde a su saludo de paz con dulzura.	8 To the poor lend an ear, and courteously return the greeting.
9 Arranca al oprimido de manos del opresor, y a la hora de juzgar no seas pusilánime.	9 Save the oppressed from the hand of the oppressor, and do not be mean-spirited in your judgements.
10 Sé para los huérfanos un padre, haz con su madre lo que hizo su marido. Y serás como un hijo del Altísimo; él te amará más que tu madre.	10 Be like a father to the fatherless and as good as a husband to their mothers. And you wil be like a childto the Most High, who will love you more than your own mother does.
11 La sabiduría a sus hijos exalta, y cuida de los que la buscan.	11 Wisdom brings up her own children and cares for those who seek her.
12 El que la ama, ama la vida, los que en su busca madrugan serán colmados de contento.	12 Whoever loves her loves life, those who seek her early wil be fil ed with joy.
13 El que la posee tendrá gloria en herencia, dondequiera que él entre, le bendecirá el Señor.	13 Whoever possesses her wil inherit honour, and wherever he walks the Lord will bless him.
14 Los que la sirven, rinden culto al Santo, a los que la aman, los ama el Señor.	14 Those who serve her minister to the Holy One, and the Lord loves those who love her.
15 El que la escucha, juzgará a las naciones, el que la sigue, su tienda montará en seguro.	15 Whoever obeys her rules the nations, whoever pays attention to her dwells secure.
16 Si se confía a ella, la poseerá en herencia, y su posteridad seguirá poseyéndola.	16 If he trusts himself to her he wil inherit her, and his descendants will remain in possession of her;
17 Pues, al principio, le llevará por recovecos, miedo y pavor hará caer sobre él, con su disciplina le atormentará hasta que tenga confianza en su alma y le pondrá a prueba con sus preceptos,	17 for though she takes him at first through winding ways, bringing fear and faintness on him, trying himout with her discipline til she can trust him, and testing him with her ordeals,
18 mas luego le volverá al camino recto, le regocijará y le revelará sus secretos.	18 she then comes back to him on the straight road, makes him happy and reveals her secrets to him.
19 Que si él se descarría, le abandonará, y le dejará a merced de su propia caída.	19 If he goes astray, however, she abandons him and leaves him to his own destruction.
20 Ten en cuenta el momento y guárdate del mal, no te avergüences de ti mismo.	20 Take circumstances into account and beware of evil, and have no cause to be ashamed of yourself;
21 Porque hay una vergüenza que conduce al pecado, y otra vergüenza hay que es gloria y gracia.	21 for there is a shame that leads to sin and a shame that is honourable and gracious.
22 No tengas miramientos en contra de ti mismo, y no mudes de color por tu caída.	22 Do not be too severe on yourself, do not let shame lead you to ruin.
23 No contengas la palabra cuando pueda salvar, y no escondas tu sabiduría.	23 Do not refrain from speaking when it will do good, and do not hide your wisdom;
24 Que la sabiduría se da a conocer en la palabra, y la educación en los discursos de la lengua.	24 for your wisdom is made known by what you say, your erudition by the words you utter.
25 A la verdad no contradigas, mas ruborízate de no estar educado.	25 Do not contradict the truth, rather blush for your own ignorance.
26 No te avergüences de confesar tus pecados, no te opongas a la corriente del río.	26 Do not be ashamed to confess your sins, do not struggle against the current of the river.
27 No te aplanes ante el hombre insensato, ni tengas miramiento al poderoso.	27 Do not grovel to the foolish, do not show partiality to the influential.
28 Hasta la muerte por la verdad combate, y el Señor Dios peleará por ti.	28 Fight to the death for truth, and the Lord God wil war on your side.
29 No seas atrevido con tu lengua, ni perezoso y negligente en tus obras.	29 Do not be bold of tongue, yet idle and slack in deed;
30 No seas un león en tu casa y un corbade entre tus servidores.	30 do not be like a lion at home, or cowardly towards your servants.
31 No sea tu mano abierta para recibir, y cerrada para dar.	31 Do not let your hands be outstretched to receive, yet tight-fisted when the time comes to give back.
