Job 22

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Elifaz de Temán tomó la palabra y dijo:	1 Eliphaz of Teman spoke next. He said:
2 ¿Acaso a Dios puede un hombre ser útil? ¡Sólo a sí mismo es útil el sensato!	2 Can a human being contribute anything to God, when even someone intel igent can benefit onlyhimself?
3 ¿Tiene algún interés Sadday por tu justicia? ¿Gana algo con que seas intachable?	3 Does Shaddai derive any benefit from your uprightness, or profit from your blameless conduct?
4 ¿Acaso por tu piedad él te corrige y entra en juicio contigo?	4 Do you think he is punishing you for your piety and bringing you to justice for that?
5 ¿No será más bien por tu mucha maldad, por tus culpas sin límite?	5 No, for your great wickedness, more likely, for your unlimited sins!
6 Porque exigías sin razón prendas a tus hermanos, arrancabas a los desnudos sus vestidos,	6 You have exacted unearned pledges from your brothers, stripped people naked of their clothes,
7 no dabas agua al sediento, al hambriento le negabas el pan;	7 failed to give water to the thirsty and refused bread to the hungry;
8 como hombre fuerte que hace suyo el país, y, rostro altivo, se sitúa en él,	8 handed the land over to a strong man, for some favoured person to move in,
9 despachabas a las viudas con las manos vacías y quebrabas los brazos de los huérfanos.	9 sent widows away empty-handed and crushed the arms of orphans.
10 Por eso los lazos te aprisionan y te estremece un pavor súbito.	10 No wonder, then, if snares are al around you, and sudden terrors make you afraid;
11 La luz se hace tiniebla, y ya no ves, y una masa de agua te sumerge.	11 if light has turned to darkness, so that you cannot see, and you have been submerged in the flood.
12 ¿No está Dios en lo alto de los cielos? ¡Mira la cabeza de las estrellas, qué altas!	12 Does not God live high in the heavens, does he not see the zenith of the stars?
13 Y tú has dicho: «¿Qué conoce Dios? ¿Discierne acaso a través del nublado?	13 And because he is up there, you have said, 'What does God know? Can he judge through the darkcloud?
14 Un velo opaco son las nubes para él, y anda por el contorno de los cielos.»	14 The clouds, to him, are an impenetrable veil, as he goes his way on the rim of the heavens.'
15 ¿Vas a seguir tú la ruta antigua que anduvieron los hombres perversos?	15 And wil you stil fol ow the ancient trail trodden by the wicked,
16 Antes de tiempo fueron aventados, cuando un río arrasó sus cimientos.	16 those who were borne off before their time, whose foundations were swamped by a flood,
17 Los que decían a Dios: «¡Apártate de nosotros! ¿Qué puede hacernos Sadday?»	17 for having said to God, 'Go away! What can Shaddai do to us?'
18 Y era él el que colmaba sus casas de ventura, aunque el consejo de los malos seguía lejos de él.	18 Yet he himself had filled their houses with good things, although excluded from the plans of thewicked!
19 Al verlo los justos se recrean, y de ellos hace burla el inocente:	19 At such a spectacle, the upright rejoice, and the innocent deride them:
20 «¡Cómo acabó nuestro adversario! ¡el fuego ha devorado su opulencia!».	20 'See how our enemies have been destroyed! See how their wealth has perished in the flames!'
21 Reconcíliate con él y haz la paz: así tu dicha te será devuelta.	21 Wel then! Make peace with him, be reconciled, and al your happiness will be restored to you.
22 Recibe de su boca la enseñanza, pon sus palabras en tu corazón.	22 Welcome the teaching from his lips, and keep his words close to your heart.
23 Si vuelves a Sadday con humildad, si alejas de tu tienda la injusticia,	23 If you return, humbled, to Shaddai and drive wickedness far from your tent,
24 si tiras al polvo el oro, el Ofir a los guijarros del torrente,	24 if you lay your gold down on the dust, Ophir down among the pebbles of the torrent,
25 Sadday se te hará lingotes de oro y plata a montones para ti.	25 Shaddai wil be bars of gold to you and silver piled in heaps.
26 Tendrás entonces en Sadday tus delicias y hacia Dios levantarás tu rostro.	26 Then Shaddai will be al your delight, and you wil lift your face to God.
27 El escuchará cuando le invoques, y podrás cumplir tus votos.	27 You wil pray, and he wil hear; and you wil be able to fulfil your vows.
28 Todo lo que emprendas saldrá bien, y por tus caminos brillará la luz.	28 Whatever you undertake wil go wel , and light will shine on your path;
29 Porque él abate el orgullo de los grandes, y salva al que baja los ojos.	29 for he casts down the pride of the arrogant, but he saves those of downcast eyes.
30 El libra al inocente; si son tus manos puras, serás salvo.	30 He rescues anyone who is innocent; have your hands clean, and you wil be saved.
