Siracide 7

BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Non fare il male, e il male non verrà sopra di te.	1 Do no evil, and evil wil not befal you;
2 Partiti dall'uom perverso, e sarai lungi dal male.	2 shun wrong, and it wil avoid you.
3 Figliuolo, non seminare cattiva semenza ne' solchi dell'ingiustizia, e non avrai da mieterne il settuplo.	3 My child, do not sow in the furrows of wickedness, for fear you have to reap them seven times over.
4 Non chiedere al Signore di esser condottiere di altri, né al re un posto di onore.	4 Do not ask the Lord for the highest place, or the king for a seat of honour.
5 Non ti spacciare per giusto dinanzi a Dio; perocché egli è conoscitore de' cuori, e non allettare di comparire sapiente dinanzi al re.	5 Do not parade your uprightness before the Lord, or your wisdom before the king.
6 Non cercare di essere fatto pudice; se non hai petto da farti largo a traverso dell'iniquità: affinchè non avvenga, che tu temendo la faccia di un potente, abbi da esporre alle cadute la tua equità.	6 Do not scheme to be appointed judge, for fear you should not be strong enough to stamp out injustice,for fear of being swayed by someone influential and so of risking the loss of your integrity.
7 Guardati dall'offendere la moltitudine della città; e non ti gettare in mezzo al popolo.	7 Do not wrong the general body of citizens and so lower yourself in popular esteem.
8 Non congiungere peccato con peccato: perocché nemmen per un solo non sarai esente da pena.	8 Do not be drawn to sin twice over, for you wil not go unpunished even once.
9 Guardati dall'aver un cuor pusillanime:	9 Do not say, 'God will be impressed by my numerous offerings; when I sacrifice to God Most High, he isbound to accept.'
10 Non trascurar l'orazione, e il far limosina.	10 Do not be hesitant in prayer; do not neglect to give alms.
11 Non dire: Iddio avrà riguardo a' molti miei doni, e quand'io offerirò i miei doni all'Altissimo, ei gli accetterà.	11 Do not laugh at someone who is sad of heart, for he who brings low can lift up high.
12 Non ti burlare di un uomo, che ha il cuore afflitto; perocché quegli, che umilia, ed esalta, egli è Dio, che tutto vede.	12 Do not make up lies against your brother, nor against a friend either.
13 Non inventar menzogne contro del tuo fratello; e noi fare similmente contro l'amico.	13 Mind you tel no lies, for no good can come of it.
14 Guardati dal proferire alcuna menzogna; perché l'avvezzarsi a ciò non è cosa buona.	14 Do not talk too much at the gathering of elders, and do not repeat yourself at your prayers.
15 Non essere verboso nella adunanza de' seniori; e non ripeter parola nella tua orazione.	15 Do not shirk tiring jobs or farm work, ordained by the Most High.
16 Non odiare le opere di fatica, né l'agricoltura istituita dall'Altissimo.	16 Do not swell the ranks of sinners, remember that the retribution wil not delay.
17 Non ti associare alla turba degli indisciplinati.	17 Be very humble, since the recompense for the godless is fire and worms.
18 Ricorditi dell'ira, la quale non sarà lenta.	18 Do not barter a friend away for the sake of profit, nor a true brother for the gold of Ophir.
19 Umilia grandemente il tuo spirito: perocché il fuoco, e il verme puniranno la carne dell'empio.	19 Do not turn against a wise and good wife; her gracious presence is worth more than gold.
20 Non venir in rottura coll'amico, che tarda a renderti del denaro; e non disprezzare un fratello carissimo in confronto dell'oro.	20 Do not il -treat a slave who is an honest worker, or a wage-earner who is devoted to you.
21 Non ti separar da una donna giudiziosa, e dabbene, la quale nel timor del Signore ti toccò in sorte; perocché la grazia della sua verecondia val più che l'oro.	21 Love an intel igent slave with al your heart, and do not deny such a slave his freedom.
22 Non maltrattare il tuo servo, che opera con fedeltà; né il mercenario, che consuma per te la sua vita.	22 Have you cattle? Look after them; if they are making you a profit, keep them.
23 Il servo sensato sia amato da te, come l'anima tua, non gli negare la sua libertà, e nol lasciare in miseria.	23 Have you children? Educate them, from childhood make them bow the neck.
24 Hai tu de' bestiami? va a visitarli; e se sono utili, restino presso di te.	24 Have you daughters? Take care of their bodies, but do not be over-indulgent.
25 Hai tu de' figliuoli? istruiscili, e domali dalla loro puerizia.	25 Marry a daughter off, and you have finished a great work; but give her to a man of sense.
26 Hai tu delle figliuole? custodisci la loro verginità, e non mostrar ad esse il viso ridente.	26 Have you a wife to your liking? Do not turn her out; but if you do not love her, never trust her.
27 Da a marito la figliuola, ed hai fatto un'opera grande; ma dalla ad un uomo sensato.	27 With al your heart honour your father, never forget the birthpangs of your mother.
28 Se tu hai una moglie secondo cuor tuo, non la mandar via; e nondarti ad una, che sia odiosa.	28 Remember that you owe your birth to them; how can you repay them for what they have done for you?
29 Con tutto il cuor tuo onora il padre tuo; e non ti scordare de' gemiti di tua madre.	29 With al your soul, fear the Lord and revere his priests.
30 Ricordati, che senza di essi tu non saresti nato; e rendi ad essi secondo quello, che han fatto per te.	30 With al your might love him who made you, and do not abandon his ministers.
31 Temi il Signore con tutta l'anima tua, e onora i suoi sacerdoti.	31 Fear the Lord and honour the priest and give him the portion enjoined on you: first-fruits, sacrifice ofreparation, shoulder-gift, sanctification sacrifice, first-fruits of the holy things.
32 Con tutte le tue forze ama colui, che ti ha creato: e non abbandonare i suoi ministri.	32 And also give generously to the poor, so that your blessing may lack nothing.
33 Onora il Signore con tutta l'anima tua, e rispetta i sacerdoti; e mondati offerendo le spalle (delle ostie).	33 Let your generosity extend to al the living, do not withhold it even from the dead.
34 Da ad essi la parte delle primizie, e (delle ostie) di espiazione, come fu a te comandato; e mondati dalla tua negligenza colle poche (vittime).	34 Do not turn your back on those who weep, but share the grief of the grief-stricken.
35 Offerirai in dono al Signore le spalle delle tue vittime, e il sagrifizio di santificazione, e le primizie delle cose sante:	35 Do not shrink from visiting the sick; in this way you wil make yourself loved.
36 E stendi al povero la tua mano (affinchè sia perfetta la tua propiziazione, e la tua benedizione).	36 In everything you do, remember your end, and you wil never sin.
37 La beneficenza è gradita a tutti i viventi; e tu non negarla nemmeno ai morti.
38 Non mancare di porgere consolazione a chi piange; e tieni compagnia agli afflitti.
39 Non ti paia greve il visitare il malato; perocché per tali mezzi ti fonderai nella carità.
40 In tutte le tue azioni ricordati del tuo ultimo fine, e non peccherai in eterno.
