1 Sei giorni dopo, Gesù prese con sè Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni suo fratello, li condusse sopra un alto monte, in disparte.	1 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a highmountain by themselves.
2 E si trasfigurò in loro presenza, e il suo viso risplendè come il sole, e le sue vesti, divennero candide come la neve.	2 There in their presence he was transfigured: his face shone like the sun and his clothes became asdazzling as light.
3 Ed ecco, loro apparvero Mosè ed Elia a conversare con lui.	3 And suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared to them; they were talking with him.
4 E Pietro prese a dire a Gesù: Signore, è un gran piacere per noi lo star qui; se vuoi, ci facciamo tre tende, una per te, una per Mosè, ed una per Elia.	4 Then Peter spoke to Jesus. 'Lord,' he said, 'it is wonderful for us to be here; if you want me to, I willmake three shelters here, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.'
5 Mentre egli ancora parlava, ecco una lucida nube avvolgerli: ed ecco dalla nuvola una voce che diceva: Questo è il mio Figlio diletto, nel quale mi sono compiaciuto, ascoltatelo.	5 He was stil speaking when suddenly a bright cloud covered them with shadow, and suddenly from thecloud there came a voice which said, 'This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favour. Listen to him.'
6 Udito ciò, i discepoli caddero bocconi per terra ed ebbero gran timore.	6 When they heard this, the disciples fel on their faces, overcome with fear.
7 Ma Gesù, accostatosi a loro, li toccò e disse: Levatevi, non temete.	7 But Jesus came up and touched them, saying, 'Stand up, do not be afraid.'
8 Ed essi alzati gli occhi, non videro altri che Gesù.	8 And when they raised their eyes they saw no one but Jesus.
9 E mentre scendevano dal monte, Gesù, comandando, disse loro: Non parlate ad alcuno di questa visione, finché il Figlio dell'uomo non sia risuscitato dai morti.	9 As they came down from the mountain Jesus gave them this order, 'Tel no one about this vision untilthe Son of man has risen from the dead.'
10 E i discepoli gli domandarono: Perchè dunque dicono gli Scribi che prima ha da venire Elia?	10 And the disciples put this question to him, 'Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?'
11 E Gesù rispose loro: Certo ha da venire Elia, per riordinare ogni cosa;	11 He replied, 'Elijah is indeed coming, and he wil set everything right again;
12 ma vi assicuro che Elia è già venuto e non l'han voluto riconoscere, ma gli han fatto tutto ciò che han voluto. Nello stesso modo faran soffrire anche il Figlio dell'uomo.	12 however, I tel you that Elijah has come already and they did not recognise him but treated him asthey pleased; and the Son of man wil suffer similarly at their hands.'
13 Allora i discepoli capirono che aveva parlato di Giovanni Battista.	13 Then the disciples understood that he was speaking of John the Baptist.
14 E giunti alla folla si accostò un uomo, il quale, prostratosi in ginocchio davanti a lui, disse: Signore, abbi pietà di mio figlio, che è lunatico e soffre molto, e spesso cade nel fuoco e spesso nell'acqua.	14 As they were rejoining the crowd a man came up to him and went down on his knees before him.
15 L'ho presentato ai tuoi discepoli, e non l'hanno potuto guarire.	15 'Lord,' he said, 'take pity on my son: he is demented and in a wretched state; he is always fal ing intofire and into water.
16 Gesù, in risposta, disse: O generazione incredula e perversa, fino a quando starò con voi? Fino a quando vi sopporterò? Portatelo qua da me.	16 I took him to your disciples and they were unable to cure him.'
17 E Gesù sgridò il demonio, e questo uscì dal fanciullo, il quale da quel momento fu risanato.	17 In reply, Jesus said, 'Faithless and perverse generation! How much longer must I be with you? Howmuch longer must I put up with you? Bring him here to me.'
18 Allora i discepoli, accostatisi a Gesù, in disparte, gli dissero: Perchè noi non l'abbiamo potuto scacciare?	18 And when Jesus rebuked it the devil came out of the boy, who was cured from that moment.
19 E Gesù rispose loro: Per la vostra poca fede, chè in verità vi dico: se avrete fede quanto un granello di senapa, direte a questo monte: Passa di qui a là, passerà e niente vi sarà impossibile.	19 Then the disciples came privately to Jesus. 'Why were we unable to drive it out?' they asked.
20 Ma questa razza di demoni non si scaccia che per mezzo dell'orazione e del digiuno.	20 He answered, 'Because you have so little faith. In truth I tel you, if your faith is the size of a mustardseed you wil say to this mountain, "Move from here to there," and it wil move; nothing will be impossible foryou.'
21 E mentre si trattenevano nella Galilea, Gesù disse loro: Il Figlio dell'uomo sta per essere dato nelle mani degli uomini.	21
22 e l'uccideranno, ma il terzo giorno risorgerà. Ed essi ne furono gran demente contristati.	22 When they were together in Galilee, Jesus said to them, 'The Son of man is going to be delivered intothe power of men;
23 Or giunti essi a Cafarnao, sì accostarono a Pietro quelli che riscotevano le due dramme e gli dissero: Il vostro Maestro non paga le due dramme?	23 they will put him to death, and on the third day he wil be raised up again.' And a great sadness cameover them.
24 Ed egli rispose: Sì, certamente. Ed entrato in casa, Gesù lo prevenne, dicendo: Che te ne pare, Simone? I re della terra da chi ricevono il tributo o il censo? Dai proprii figli o dagli estranei?	24 When they reached Capernaum, the col ectors of the half-shekel came to Peter and said, 'Does yourmaster not pay the half-shekel?'
25 Dagli estranei, rispose Pietro. E Gesù a lui: Dunque i figli ne sono esenti.	25 'Yes,' he replied, and went into the house. But before he could speak, Jesus said, 'Simon, what isyour opinion? From whom do earthly kings take tol or tribute? From their sons or from foreigners?'
26 Ma per non scandalizzarli, va' al mare, getta l'amo, e prendi il primo pesce che verrà su: aprigli la bocca e vi troverai uno statere: prendilo e paga per me e per te.	26 And when he replied, 'From foreigners,' Jesus said, 'Well then, the sons are exempt.
	27 However, so that we shal not be the downfal of others, go to the lake and cast a hook; take the firstfish that rises, open its mouth and there you wil find a shekel; take it and give it to them for me and for yourself.'
