Geremia 9

1 Chi darà alla mia testa l'acqua, e ai miei occhi una fonte di lacrime? Così piangerò giorno e notte gli uccisi della figlia del mio popolo.	1 Would that I had in the desert a travelers' lodge! That I might leave my people and depart from them. They are all adulterers, a faithless band.
2 Chi mi darà nel deserto una capanna da viaggiatore, per lasciare il mio popolo e allontanarmi da essi? Perchè son tatti adulteri, un branco di prevaricatori.	2 They ready their tongues like a drawn bow; with lying, and not with truth, they hold forth in the land. They go from evil to evil, but me they know not, says the LORD.
3 Han teso la loro lingua come arco di menzogna, non colla verità si son fatti potenti sulla terra, ma son passati di malvagità in malvagità, non mi hanno conosciuto — dice il Signore. —	3 Be on your guard, everyone against his neighbor; put no trust in any brother. Every brother apes Jacob, the supplanter, every friend is guilty of slander.
4 Ognuno si guardi dal suo prossimo, nessuno si fidi dei suoi fratelli, perchè ogni fratello farà di tutto per soppiantare (il fratello) ed ogni amico agirà con frode.	4 Each one deceives the other, no one speaks the truth. They have accustomed their tongues to lying, and are perverse, and cannot repent.
5 Ogni uomo cercherà di burlare il fratello, non si diranno la verità: hanno esercitata la loro lingua a dir menzogne, si sono affaticati a fare il male.	5 Violence upon violence, deceit upon deceit: They refuse to recognize me, says the LORD.
6 Tu abiti in mezzo all'inganno: è per l'inganno che rifiutano di conoscermi — dice il Signore. —	6 Therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts: I will smelt them and test them; how else should I deal with their wickedness?
7 Per questo così parla il Signore degli eserciti: « Ecco io li fonderò nel crogiolo e li proverò. Che altro posso fare a riguardo della figlia del mio popolo?	7 A murderous arrow is his tongue, his mouth utters deceit; He speaks cordially with his friends, but in his heart he lays an ambush!
8 La loro lingua è una freccia che fa piaga, e parla per ingannare: colla loro bocca trattan di pace col loro amico e di nascosto gli tendono insidie.	8 For these things, says the LORD, shall I not punish them? On a nation such as this shall I not take vengeance?
9 Ed io non dovrò punire tutte queste cose? , — dice il Signore. — Sopra una nazione come questa non dovrò prendere le; mie vendette?	9 Over the mountains, break out in cries of lamentation, over the pasture lands, intone a dirge: They are scorched, and no man crosses them, unheard is the bleat of the flock; Birds of the air as well as beasts, all have fled, and are gone.
10 Sopra le montagne mi abbandonerò alle lacrime e ai lamenti, e sopra le oasi del deserto al pianto, perchè son bruciate, e nessuno vi passa, non vi si sente più la voce del padrone, dagli uccelli del cielo al bestiame se ne sono andati, si son ritirati	10 I will turn Jerusalem into a heap of ruins, a haunt of jackals; The cities of Judah I will make into a waste, where no one dwells.
11 ed io farò di Gerusalemme dei mucchi d'arena e tane di dragoni, e ridurrò le città di Giuda a deserto, per non esserci chi le abiti.	11 Who is so wise that he can understand this? Let him to whom the mouth of the LORD has spoken make it known: Why is the land ravaged, scorched like a wasteland untraversed?
12 Qual uomo è sapiente da intendere questo? E a chi la parola della bocca del Signore sarà comunicata perchè annunzi come mai sia andata in perdizione la terra e arsa come un deserto in modo che nessuno vi passi? »	12 The LORD answered: Because they have abandoned my law, which I set before them, and have not followed it or listened to my voice,
13 E il Signore disse: « Perchè hanno abbandonata la mia legge che io diedi loro, e non han dato ascolto alla mia voce, e non l'han seguita.	13 but followed rather the hardness of their hearts and the Baals, as their fathers had taught them;
14 E invece han seguito il pravo loro cuore e Baal; cose imparate dai loro padri.	14 therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: See now, I will give them wormwood to eat and poison to drink.
15 Per questo così parla il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: Ecco io ciberò d'assenzio questo popolo, e darò loro a bere acqua di fiele,	15 I will scatter them among nations whom neither they nor their fathers have known; I will send the sword to pursue them until I have completely destroyed them.
16 e li disperderò fra nazioni che nè essi nè i loro padri han conosciute, e dietro ad essi manderò la spada, fino a che non siano sterminati ».	16 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Attention! tell the wailing women to come, summon the best of them;
17 Ecco quanto dice il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: « Procurate di far chiamare le piangenti, di farle venire. Mandate gli ordini per quelli più abili, e che si affrettino,	17 Let them come quickly and intone a dirge for us, That our eyes may be wet with weeping, our cheeks run with tears.
18 si sbrighino, e intonino sopra di noi i lamenti; chè i nostri occhi spargan lacrime, e le nostre palpebre versino acque.	18 The dirge is heard from Zion: Ruined we are, and greatly ashamed; We must leave the land, give up our homes!
19 Perchè voce di lamento si sente da Sion: « Perchè siamo stati devastati e coperti di tanta ignominia? Perchè abbiamo abbandonato il paese? Perchè sono state atterrate le nostre dimore? »	19 Hear, you women, the word of the LORD, let your ears receive his message. Teach your daughters this dirge, and each other this lament.
20 Udite dunque, o donne, la parola del Signore, ricevali le vostre orecchie le parole della sua bocca: insegnate alle vostre figlie una lamentazione, e ciascuna alla sua vicina un pianto,	20 Death has come up through our windows, has entered our palaces; It cuts down the children in the street, young people in the squares.
21 perchè la morte è salita per le nostre finestre, è entrata nelle nostre case, per sterminare i bambini dalle strade e i giovani dalle piazze.	21 The corpses of the slain lie like dung on a field, Like sheaves behind the harvester, with no one to gather them.
22 Parla: così dice il Signore: I cadaveri degli uomini cadranno come concime sui campi e come fieno dietro il falciatore, senza che nessuno li raccolga.	22 Thus says the LORD: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, nor the strong man glory in his strength, nor the rich man glory in his riches;
23 Questo dice il Signore: « Non si glorii il saggio di sua sapienza, non si glorii il forte di sua fortezza, non si glorii il ricco delle sue ricchezze:	23 But rather, let him who glories, glory in this, that in his prudence he knows me, Knows that I, the LORD, bring about kindness, justice and uprightness on the earth; For with such am I pleased, says the LORD.
24 ma chi si gloria si glorii di questo: di sapere e di conoscere che io sono il Signore, che faccio misericordia e giudizio e giustizia sulla terra: son queste le cose che mi piacciono — dice il Signore ».	24 See, days are coming, says the LORD, when I will demand an account of all those circumcised in their flesh:
25 Ecco vengono i giorni — dice il Signore — in cui io castigherò tutti i circoncisi:	25 Egypt and Judah, Edom and the Ammonites, Moab and the desert dwellers who shave their temples. For all these nations, like the whole house of Israel, are uncircumcised in heart.
26 l'Egitto, Giuda, Edom, i figli d'Ammon e Moab, e tutti quelli che hanno la chioma tagliata in tondo, gli abitanti del deserto; perchè tutte le nazioni sono incirconcise, e tutta la casa d'Israele è incirconcisa di cuore.
