| 1 Il Signore parlò ancora a Mosè, dicendogli: | 1 And the LORD said to Moses, |
| 2 «Parla a tutta l'assemblea de' figliuoli di Israele. Dirai loro: - Siate santi, perchè santo son io, Signore Dio vostro. | 2 "Say to all the congregation of the people of Israel, You shall be holy; for I the LORD your God am holy. |
| 3 Ognuno tema il padre e la madre sua. Osservate i miei sabati. Io il Signore Dio vostro. | 3 Every one of you shall revere his mother and his father, and you shall keep my sabbaths: I am the LORD your God. |
| 4 Non vi rivolgete agl'idoli, e non vi fate dèi di getto. Io il Signore Dio vostro. | 4 Do not turn to idols or make for yourselves molten gods: I am the LORD your God. |
| 5 Se immolerete al Signore un'ostia pacifica per averlo propizio, | 5 "When you offer a sacrifice of peace offerings to the LORD, you shall offer it so that you may be accepted. |
| 6 mangiatela il giorno stesso in che fu immolata, ed il successivo; ma quello che avanzerebbe per il terzo giorno, bruciatelo sul fuoco. | 6 It shall be eaten the same day you offer it, or on the morrow; and anything left over until the third day shall be burned with fire. |
| 7 Se uno ne mangerà passati i due giorni, sarà profano e reo d'empietà; | 7 If it is eaten at all on the third day, it is an abomination; it will not be accepted, |
| 8 porterà la pena del suo peccato per aver violato una cosa santa del Signore, e l'anima sua verrà tolta di mezzo al suo popolo. | 8 and every one who eats it shall bear his iniquity, because he has profaned a holy thing of the LORD; and that person shall be cut off from his people. |
| 9 Quando mieterai le mèssi della tua terra, non taglierai fino al piede ciò che è sulla terra, e non raccoglierai le spighe che rimarranno. | 9 "When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field to its very border, neither shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest. |
| 10 Nella tua vigna non raccatterai i grappoli e le spighe cadute, ma le lascerai prendere ai poveri ed ai forestieri. Io il Signore Dio vostro. | 10 And you shall not strip your vineyard bare, neither shall you gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner: I am the LORD your God. |
| 11 Non ruberete. Non mentirete, e nessuno ingannerà il suo prossimo. | 11 "You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another. |
| 12 Non giurerai il falso nel nome mio, e non profanerai il nome del Dio tuo. Io il Signore. | 12 And you shall not swear by my name falsely, and so profane the name of your God: I am the LORD. |
| 13 Non calunnierai il tuo prossimo, nè l'opprimerai con la forza. Non riterrai presso di te sino all'indomani la paga del tuo operaio. | 13 "You shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him. The wages of a hired servant shall not remain with you all night until the morning. |
| 14 Non schernirai il sordo, e non metterai inciampi davanti al cieco; ma temerai il Signore Dio tuo, perchè io sono il Signore. | 14 You shall not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall fear your God: I am the LORD. |
| 15 Non farai quel che è ingiusto, e non giudicherai contro giustizia, nè per favorire la persona del povero, nè per ingraziarti il potente. Giudica con giustizia il tuo prossimo. | 15 "You shall do no injustice in judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor. |
| 16 Non esser accusatore nè seminatore di sospetti nel popolo. Non ti mettere contro il sangue del prossimo tuo. Io il Signore. | 16 You shall not go up and down as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not stand forth against the life of your neighbor: I am the LORD. |
| 17 Non odierai in cuor tuo il tuo fratello, ma riprendilo pubblicamente, e così non avrai peccato per causa sua. | 17 "You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason with your neighbor, lest you bear sin because of him. |
| 18 Non chieder vendetta, e non ricordare l'ingiuria de' tuoi concittadini. Amerai il tuo amico come te stesso. Io il Signore. | 18 You shall not take vengeance or bear any grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD. |
| 19 Osservate le mie leggi. Non far accoppiare il tuo giumento con animali di altra specie. Non seminare insieme nel tuo campo semi diversi. Non ti metter addosso una veste tessuta di due diverse materie. | 19 "You shall keep my statutes. You shall not let your cattle breed with a different kind; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed; nor shall there come upon you a garment of cloth made of two kinds of stuff. |
| 20 Se un uomo dormirà con una schiava promessa sposa [ad un altro] non riscattata a prezzo nè affrancata, saranno battuti ambedue; non però messi a morte, perchè essa non era libera. | 20 "If a man lies carnally with a woman who is a slave, betrothed to another man and not yet ransomed or given her freedom, an inquiry shall be held. They shall not be put to death, because she was not free; |
| 21 Ma costui per il suo delitto offrirà al Signore davanti al tabernacolo della testimonianza un ariete; | 21 but he shall bring a guilt offering for himself to the LORD, to the door of the tent of meeting, a ram for a guilt offering. |
| 22 il sacerdote pregherà per lui e per il suo peccato innanzi al Signore; gli verrà fatta misericordia, e perdonato il peccato. | 22 And the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering before the LORD for his sin which he has committed; and the sin which he has committed shall be forgiven him. |
| 23 Quando sarete entrati nella terra [promessa], e vi pianterete alberi da frutto, li circonciderete; [cioè a dire] i frutti che produrranno saranno immondi per voi e non ne mangerete. | 23 "When you come into the land and plant all kinds of trees for food, then you shall count their fruit as forbidden; three years it shall be forbidden to you, it must not be eaten. |
| 24 Il quarto anno, ogni loro frutto sarà riservato in omaggio al Signore. | 24 And in the fourth year all their fruit shall be holy, an offering of praise to the LORD. |
| 25 Col quinto anno, ne mangerete i frutti, e raccoglierete i pomi che essi faranno. Io il Signore Dio vostro. | 25 But in the fifth year you may eat of their fruit, that they may yield more richly for you: I am the LORD your God. |
| 26 Non mangerete [carni] col sangue. Non trarrete augurii, nè darete retta ai sogni; | 26 "You shall not eat any flesh with the blood in it. You shall not practice augury or witchcraft. |
| 27 non vi taglierete i capelli in tondo, nè la barba [sui lati]. | 27 You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard. |
| 28 Alla morte di qualcuno non vi farete incisioni sulla carne, nè figure o disegni. Io il Signore. | 28 You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh on account of the dead or tattoo any marks upon you: I am the LORD. |
| 29 Non prostituire la tua figliuola, acciò la terra non ne resti contaminata, e carica d'empietà. | 29 "Do not profane your daughter by making her a harlot, lest the land fall into harlotry and the land become full of wickedness. |
| 30 Osservate i miei sabati, e temete il mio santuario. Io il Signore. | 30 You shall keep my sabbaths and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD. |
| 31 Non vi rivolgete ai maghi, e non consultate per niente gl'indovini in modo da esserne contaminati. Io il Signore Dio vostro. | 31 "Do not turn to mediums or wizards; do not seek them out, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God. |
| 32 Innanzi ad un capo canuto, alzati in piedi; onora la persona del vecchio, e temi il Signore Dio tuo. Io sono il Signore. | 32 "You shall rise up before the hoary head, and honor the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God: I am the LORD. |
| 33 Se un forestiero abiterà nella vostra terra, e prenderà dimora fra voi, non lo disprezzate; | 33 "When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. |
| 34 ma sia tra voi come un indigeno, ed amatelo come voi medesimi, giacchè foste anche voi forestieri nella terra d'Egitto. Io il Signore Dio vostro. | 34 The stranger who sojourns with you shall be to you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. |
| 35 Non commettete ingiustizia alcuna ne' giudizi, nelle lunghezze, nei pesi, nelle misure. | 35 "You shall do no wrong in judgment, in measures of length or weight or quantity. |
| 36 Sia giusta la stadera co' suoi pesi, giusto il moggio e il sestario. Io il Signore Dio vostro, che vi trassi dalla terra d'Egitto. | 36 You shall have just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin: I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. |
| 37 Custodite tutti i miei comandamenti e tutte le leggi, e mettetele in pratica. Io il Signore -». | 37 And you shall observe all my statutes and all my ordinances, and do them: I am the LORD." |
