Isaia 40

1 - «Consolatevi, consolatevi, popolo mio, dice il Dio vostro.	1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
2 Parlate al cuore di Gerusalemme e richiamatela, perchè la malvagità che la teneva legata è finita, la sua iniquità è stata rimessa; ha ricevuto dalla mano del Signore il doppio per tutti i suoi peccati.	2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD's hand double for all her sins.
3 Voce di uno che grida, nel deserto: - Preparate la via del Signore, raddrizzate nella solitudine i sentieri del nostro Dio.	3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
4 Ogni valle sarà colmata, e ogni monte e colle abbassato, e le strade torte diventeranno diritte e le scoscese si faranno piane.	4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
5 E si manifesterà la gloria del Signore, e tutti gli uomini ugualmente vedranno quello che la bocca del Signore ha annunziato. -	5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
6 Voce di uno che dice: - Grida. - E io dissi: - Che griderò? Erba è tutta la carne e tutta la sua gloria è come il fiore del campo.	6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
7 L'erba si seccò e il fiore cadde, perchè il soffio del Signore vi passò sopra. Veramente un'erba è il popolo.	7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
8 L'erba si seccò e il fiore cadde, ma la parola del Signore nostro resta per sempre. -	8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
9 Sopra un monte elevato sali tu, che porti la buona novella a Sion; alza fortemente la tua voce, tu, che rechi il buon annunzio a Gerusalemme: alza la voce, non temere, di' alle città di Giuda: - Ecco il Dio vostro;	9 O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
10 ecco che il Signore Dio viene con possanza e il suo braccio dominerà; egli ha con sè la sua mercede e ha davanti a sè l'opera sua.	10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
11 Come un pastore pascerà il suo gregge, raccoglierà tra le sue braccia gli agnellini e se li recherà in seno e assisterà le madri -».	11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
12 Chi è che ha misurato nel cavo della mano le acque, e ha calcolato colla spanna la distesa dei cieli? Chi è che sostiene con tre dita la mole della terra; che pesò sulla bilancia i monti, e i colli, sulla stadera?	12 Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?
13 Chi ha prestato aiuto allo spirito del Signore; e chi gli ha dato consiglio e gli ha insegnato?	13 Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counseller hath taught him?
14 Con chi si è egli consultato, e chi è che l'abbia istruito e gli abbia indicata la via della giustizia, e insegnata la scienza, e mostrata la strada della prudenza?	14 With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?
15 Ecco che le nazioni sono come le gocce d'una secchia e contano quanto un pulviscolo nelle bilance: le isole sono come granellini di polvere.	15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
16 Il Libano non offrirebbe sufficienti legna pel fuoco, e i suoi animali non basterebbero per fargli un degno olocausto.	16 And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.
17 Tutte le genti dinanzi a lui sono come se non fossero: una cosa che non conta nulla, un niente di niente.	17 All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.
18 A chi dunque rassomigliereste Iddio? e con quale immagine lo rappresentereste?	18 To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?
19 E come mai, una statua ha fuso il fabbro, e l'orefice ne ha foggiata una d'oro battuto, e di lamina d'argento, l'argentiere?	19 The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains.
20 L'artefice intelligente scelse un pezzo di legno forte e incorruttibile, e s'ingegna di mettere in piedi un simulacro che non si muova!	20 He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved.
21 E voi non capite! e voi non intendete! E non è stato manifestato a voi fin da principio? Non ve lo fa palese la fondazione della terra?	21 Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?
22 Colui che siede sopra l'orbe della terra, i cui abitatori gli sono come locuste, che stende i cieli, come tenue velame e li dispiega come un padiglione per abitare.	22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
23 Che riduce al nulla gli scrutatori dei segreti e annienta i giudici della terra.	23 That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.
24 Non ancora il loro tronco è piantato, seminato, radicato in terra, che di repente passa col suo soffio e inaridiscono, e il turbine li porta via come paglia.	24 Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.
25 E a chi mi avete assomigliato e uguagliato, dice il Santo?	25 To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
26 Levate in alto i vostri occhi e vedete chi mai creò tutte quelle cose lassù? Egli fa uscire per ordine le loro schiere, le chiama tutte per nome; e per la grandezza della sua potenza, della sua forza e della sua virtù, neppure una rimane indietro.	26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
27 Perchè dici tu, o Giacobbe, e affermi tu, o Israele: «Non è noto al Signore lo stato mio, il mio Dio non bada alle mie ragioni?».	27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?
28 E non capisci? e non intendesti? Il Signore è il Dio eterno, che ha creato i confini della terra; non si spossa mai e non si stanca, e la sua sapienza è imperscrutabile.	28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
29 Egli dà forza allo stanco, e a coloro che vengano meno raddoppia vigore e robustezza.	29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Gli uomini anche in verde età vengono meno e si stancano, e i giovani cadono affranti.	30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31 Ma quelli che sperano nel Signore rinnoveranno le forze, rimetteranno le penne come le aquile correranno senza fatica, cammineranno senza stancarsi mai.	31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
