Deuteronomio 14

1 Voi siete figli per il Signore, vostro Dio: non vi farete incisioni e non vi raderete tra gli occhi per un morto.	1 “Be sons of the Lord your God. You shall not cut yourselves, nor make yourselves bald, because of the dead.
2 Tu sei infatti un popolo consacrato al Signore, tuo Dio, e il Signore ti ha scelto per essere il suo popolo particolare fra tutti i popoli che sono sulla terra.	2 For you are a holy people, for the Lord your God. And he chose you, so that you may be a people particularly his, out of all the nations on earth.
3 Non mangerai alcuna cosa abominevole.	3 You shall not eat the things that are unclean.
4 Questi sono gli animali che potrete mangiare: il bue, la pecora e la capra;	4 These are the animals which you ought to eat: the ox, and the sheep, and the goat,
5 il cervo, la gazzella, il capriolo, lo stambecco, l'antilope, il bufalo e il camoscio.	5 the stag and the roe deer, the gazelle, the wild goat, the addax, the antelope, the giraffe.
6 Potrete mangiare di ogni quadrupede che ha l’unghia bipartita, divisa in due da una fessura, e che rumina.	6 Every beast which has a hoof divided into two parts and which also chews the cud, you shall eat.
7 Ma non mangerete quelli che ruminano soltanto o che hanno soltanto l’unghia bipartita, divisa da una fessura: il cammello, la lepre, l’iràce, che ruminano ma non hanno l’unghia bipartita. Considerateli impuri.	7 But those which chew over again, but do not have a divided hoof, you must not eat, such as the camel, the hare, and the hyrax. Since these chew the cud, but do not have a divided the hoof, they shall be unclean to you.
8 Anche il porco, che ha l’unghia bipartita ma non rumina, per voi è impuro. Non mangerete la loro carne e non toccherete i loro cadaveri.	8 The pig also, since it has a divided hoof, but does not chew over again, shall be unclean. Their flesh shall not be eaten, and you shall not touch their carcasses.
9 Fra tutti gli animali che vivono nelle acque potrete mangiare quelli che hanno pinne e squame;	9 These you shall eat out of all that dwells in the waters: whatever has fins and scales, you shall eat.
10 ma non mangerete nessuno di quelli che non hanno pinne e squame. Considerateli impuri.	10 Whatever is without fins and scales, you shall not eat, for these are unclean.
11 Potrete mangiare qualunque uccello puro,	11 All the clean birds, you shall eat.
12 ma delle seguenti specie non dovete mangiare: l’aquila, l’avvoltoio e l’aquila di mare,	12 You shall not eat those that are unclean: such as the eagle, and the griffin, and the osprey,
13 il nibbio e ogni specie di falco,	13 the crane, and the vulture, and the kite, according to their kind,
14 ogni specie di corvo,	14 and any kind of raven,
15 lo struzzo, la civetta, il gabbiano e ogni specie di sparviero,	15 and the ostrich, and the owl, and the gull, and the hawk, according to their kind,
16 il gufo, l’ibis, il cigno,	16 the heron, and the swan, and the ibis,
17 il pellicano, la fòlaga, l’alcione,	17 and the sea bird, the marsh hen, and the night raven,
18 la cicogna, ogni specie di airone, l’ùpupa e il pipistrello.	18 the pelican and the plover, each in their kind, likewise the crested hoopoe and the bat.
19 Considererete come impuro ogni insetto alato. Non ne mangiate.	19 And anything which crawls and also has little wings shall be unclean, and shall not be eaten.
20 Potrete mangiare ogni uccello puro.	20 All that is clean, you shall eat.
21 Non mangerete alcuna bestia che sia morta di morte naturale; la darai al forestiero che risiede nelle tue città, perché la mangi, o la venderai a qualche straniero, perché tu sei un popolo consacrato al Signore, tuo Dio. Non farai cuocere un capretto nel latte di sua madre.	21 But whatever has died of itself, you shall not eat from it. Give it to the sojourner, who is within your gates, so that he may eat, or sell it to him. For you are the holy people of the Lord your God. You shall not boil a young goat in the milk of his mother.
22 Dovrai prelevare la decima da tutto il frutto della tua semente, che il campo produce ogni anno.	22 Each year, you shall separate the tithes out of all your crops which spring forth from the earth.
23 Mangerai davanti al Signore, tuo Dio, nel luogo dove avrà scelto di stabilire il suo nome, la decima del tuo frumento, del tuo mosto, del tuo olio e i primi parti del tuo bestiame grosso e minuto, perché tu impari a temere sempre il Signore, tuo Dio.	23 And you shall eat these in the sight of the Lord your God, in the place which he will choose, so that his name may be invoked there: the tenth part of your grain and wine and oil, and the firstborn from the herds and your sheep. So may you learn to fear the Lord your God at all times.
24 Ma se il cammino è troppo lungo per te e tu non puoi trasportare quelle decime, perché è troppo lontano da te il luogo dove il Signore, tuo Dio, avrà scelto di stabilire il suo nome – perché il Signore, tuo Dio, ti avrà benedetto –,	24 But when the way and the place which the Lord your God will have chosen is further away, and he will have blessed you, so that you are not able to carry all these things to it,
25 allora le convertirai in denaro e, tenendolo in mano, andrai al luogo che il Signore, tuo Dio, avrà scelto	25 you shall sell them all, so as to turn them into money, and you shall carry it in your hand, and you shall set out for the place which the Lord will choose.
26 e lo impiegherai per comprarti quanto tu desideri: bestiame grosso o minuto, vino, bevande inebrianti o qualunque cosa di tuo gusto e mangerai davanti al Signore, tuo Dio, e gioirai tu e la tua famiglia.	26 And you shall buy with the same money whatever pleases you, either from the herds or from the sheep, and also wine and liquor, and all that your soul desires. And you shall eat in the sight of the Lord your God, and you shall feast: you and your household.
27 Il levita che abita le tue città, non lo abbandonerai, perché non ha parte né eredità con te.	27 As for the Levite, who is within your gates, take care that you do not abandon him, for he has no other portion within your possession.
28 Alla fine di ogni triennio metterai da parte tutte le decime del tuo provento in quell'anno e le deporrai entro le tue porte.	28 In the third year, you shall separate another tenth part of all the things which spring forth for you at that time, and you shall store it within your gates.
29 Il levita, che non ha parte né eredità con te, il forestiero, l’orfano e la vedova che abiteranno le tue città, mangeranno e si sazieranno, perché il Signore, tuo Dio, ti benedica in ogni lavoro a cui avrai messo mano.	29 And the Levite, who has no other portion or possession with you, and the sojourner as well as the orphan and the widow who are within your gates, shall approach and eat and be satisfied, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the works of your hands which you shall do.”
