| 3 Perché ci tratti come bestie, e ai tuoi occhi siamo stolti? | 3 Why are we counted as cattle? Why are we stupid in your sight? |
| 4 O tu, che nella tua ira strazi te stesso, forse sarà abbandonata la terra per causa tua o la rupe sarà cambiata di posto? | 4 You who tear yourself in your anger, shall the earth be forsaken for you, or the rock be removed out of its place? |
| 5 Sì, la luce dell’empio si spegnerà né la fiamma del suo fuoco brillerà. | 5 "Yea, the light of the wicked is put out, and the flame of his fire does not shine. |
| 6 Si oscurerà la luce nella sua tenda, si spegnerà la sua lucerna su di lui. | 6 The light is dark in his tent, and his lamp above him is put out. |
| 7 Saranno inceppati i suoi passi vigorosi e i suoi disegni lo trarranno in rovina. | 7 His strong steps are shortened and his own schemes throw him down. |
| 8 Perché con i suoi piedi incapperà in una rete, camminerà sopra un tranello. | 8 For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walks on a pitfall. |
| 9 Un laccio lo stringerà al tallone e una trappola lo serrerà forte. | 9 A trap seizes him by the heel, a snare lays hold of him. |
| 10 Una fune gli è nascosta per terra e un tranello sul sentiero. | 10 A rope is hid for him in the ground, a trap for him in the path. |
| 11 Intorno, lo impauriscono terrori e gli stanno sempre alle calcagna. | 11 Terrors frighten him on every side, and chase him at his heels. |
| 12 Alla sua abbondanza succede la fame, l’infortunio gli sta alle coste. | 12 His strength is hunger-bitten, and calamity is ready for his stumbling. |
| 13 La sua pelle è mangiata da un morbo, gli divora le membra il primogenito della morte. | 13 By disease his skin is consumed, the first-born of death consumes his limbs. |
| 14 È strappato dalla sua tenda, in cui stava sicuro, lo puoi trascinare al re dei terrori. | 14 He is torn from the tent in which he trusted, and is brought to the king of terrors. |
| 15 Tu puoi abitare nella sua tenda non più sua; si spargerà zolfo nella sua dimora. | 15 In his tent dwells that which is none of his; brimstone is scattered upon his habitation. |
| 16 Sotto, seccheranno le sue radici; sopra, saranno tagliati i suoi rami. | 16 His roots dry up beneath, and his branches wither above. |
| 17 La sua memoria sparirà dalla terra e non avrà più nome nella contrada. | 17 His memory perishes from the earth, and he has no name in the street. |
| 18 Lo cacceranno dalla luce alle tenebre e sarà bandito dal mondo. | 18 He is thrust from light into darkness, and driven out of the world. |
| 19 Non avrà famiglia né parenti tra il suo popolo, non superstite nella sua patria. | 19 He has no offspring or descendant among his people, and no survivor where he used to live. |
| 20 Stupirà l’occidente della sua rovina, l’oriente sarà preso d’orrore. | 20 They of the west are appalled at his day, and horror seizes them of the east. |
| 21 Questa dunque è la posizione dell’empio e questo lo stato di chi disconosce Dio!» | 21 Surely such are the dwellings of the ungodly, such is the place of him who knows not God." |
