BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Hijo, ¿has pecado? No lo vuelvas a hacer, y pide perdón por tus pecados anteriores.	1 My child, have you sinned? Do so no more, and ask forgiveness for your previous faults.
2 Como de serpiente huye del pecado, porque, si te acercas, te morderá. Dientes de león son sus dientes, que quitan la vida a los hombres.	2 Flee from sin as from a snake, if you approach it, it wil bite you; its teeth are lion's teeth, they takehuman life away.
3 Como espada de dos filos es toda iniquidad, para su herida no hay remedio.	3 Al law-breaking is like a two-edged sword, the wounds it inflicts are beyond cure.
4 El terror y la violencia arrasan la riqueza, así quedará arrasada la casa del orgulloso.	4 Terror and violence make havoc of riches, similarly, desolation overtakes the houses of the proud.
5 La oración del pobre va de su boca a los oídos de Dios, y el juicio divino no se deja esperar.	5 A plea from the mouth of the poor goes straight to the ear of God, whose judgement comes withoutdelay.
6 El que odia la reprensión sigue las huellas del pecador, el que teme al Señor se convierte en su corazón.	6 Whoever resents reproof walks in the sinner's footsteps; whoever fears the Lord is repentant of heart.
7 De lejos se conoce al charlatán, y el hombre reflexivo le adivina los deslices.	7 The glib speaker is known far and wide, but the wary detects every slip.
8 Quien edifica su casa con dinero ajeno es como el que amontona piedras para su tumba.	8 To build your house with other people's money is like collecting stones for your own tomb.
9 Estopa hacinada es la reunión de los sin ley, su meta es la llama de fuego.	9 A meeting of the lawless is like a heap of tow: they wil end in a blazing fire.
10 El camino de los pecadores está bien enlosado, pero a su término está la fosa del seol.	10 The sinner's road is smoothly paved, but it ends at the pit of Sheol.
11 El que guarda la Ley controla sus ideas, la meta del temor del Señor es la sabiduría.	11 Whoever keeps the Law wil master his instincts; the fear of the Lord is made perfect in wisdom.
12 No alcanzará doctrina quien no es habilidoso, pero no hay habilidades que llenan de amargura.	12 No one who lacks aptitude can be taught, but certain aptitudes give rise to bitterness.
13 La ciencia del sabio crecerá como una inundación, y su consejo será fuente de vida.	13 The sage's knowledge is as rich as the abyss and his advice is like a living spring.
14 El interior del necio es como un vaso roto, que no retiene ningún conocimiento.	14 The heart of a fool is like a broken jar, it will not hold any knowledge.
15 Si un hombre de saber oye palabra sabia, la elogia y otra suya añade. Si la oye el libertino, le desagrada y la echa detrás de sus espaldas.	15 If the educated hears a wise saying, he praises it and caps it with another; if a debauchee hears it, hedoes not like it and tosses it behind his back.
16 El relato del necio es como fardo en el camino, mas en los labios del inteligente se halla gracia.	16 The talk of a fool is like a load on a journey, but it is a pleasure to listen to the intelligent.
17 La boca del sensato es buscada en la asamblea, sus palabras se meditan de corazón.	17 The utterance of the shrewd wil be eagerly awaited in the assembly, what he says wil be givenserious consideration.
18 Como casa en ruinas, así la sabiduría del necio, el conocimiento del tonto, palabras incoherentes.	18 The wisdom of a fool is like the wreckage of a house, the knowledge of a dolt is incoherent talk.
19 Cadenas en los pies, es la educación para el mentecato, como esposas en su mano derecha.	19 To the senseless fel ow instruction is like fetters on the feet, like manacles on the right hand.
20 El necio, cuando ríe, lo hace a carcajadas, mas el hombre sensato apenas si sonríe.	20 A fool laughs at the top of his voice, but the intel igent quietly smiles.
21 Adorno de oro es la educación para el sensato, como un brazalete en su brazo derecho.	21 To the shrewd instruction is like a golden ornament, like a bracelet on the right arm.
22 El pie del necio entra rápido en la casa, el hombre experimentado se presenta con modestia.	22 The step of a fool goes straight into a house, but a person of much experience makes a respectfulapproach;
23 Desde la puerta el insensato fisga el interior, el hombre bien educado queda afuera.	23 the stupid peeps inside through the door, a well-bred person waits outside.
24 Es falta de educación escuchar a la puerta, tal descortesía indigna al sensato.	24 Listening at doors is a sign of bad upbringing, the perceptive would be ashamed to do so.
25 Los labios de los habladores repiten las palabras ajenas, mas las palabras de los prudentes se pesan en balanza.	25 The lips of gossips repeat the words of others, the words of the wise are careful y weighed.
26 En la boca de los necios está su corazón, pero el corazón de los sabios es su boca.	26 The heart of fools is in their mouth, but the mouth of the wise is in their heart.
27 Cuando el impío maldice a Satanás, a sí mismo se maldice.	27 When the godless curses Satan, he is cursing himself.
28 El murmurador mancha su propia alma, y es detestado por el vecindario.	28 The scandal-monger sul ies himself and earns the hatred of the neighbourhood.
