1 Poema. De Asaf. Escucha mi ley, pueblo mío, tiende tu oído a las palabras de mi boca;	1 A maskil of Asaph. Attend, my people, to my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth.
2 voy a abrir mi boca en parábolas, a evocar los misterios del pasado.	2 I will open my mouth in story, drawing lessons from of old.
3 Lo que hemos oído y que sabemos, lo que nuestros padres nos contaron,	3 We have heard them, we know them; our ancestors have recited them to us.
4 no se lo callaremos a sus hijos, a la futura generación lo contaremos: Las alabanzas de Yahveh y su poder, las maravillas que hizo;	4 We do not keep them from our children; we recite them to the next generation, The praiseworthy and mighty deeds of the LORD, the wonders that he performed.
5 él estableció en Jacob un dictamen, y puso una ley en Israel; El había mandado a nuestros padres que lo comunicaran a sus hijos,	5 God set up a decree in Jacob, established a law in Israel: What he commanded our ancestors, they were to teach their children;
6 que la generación siguiente lo supiera, los hijos que habían de nacer; y que éstos se alzaran y se lo contaran a sus hijos,	6 That the next generation might come to know, children yet to be born. In turn they were to recite them to their children,
7 para que pusieran en Dios su confianza, no olvidaran las hazañas de Dios, y sus mandamientos observaran;	7 that they too might put their trust in God, And not forget the works of God, keeping his commandments.
8 para que no fueran, lo mismo que sus padres, una generación rebelde y revoltosa, generación de corazón voluble y de espíritu desleal a Dios.	8 They were not to be like their ancestors, a rebellious and defiant generation, A generation whose heart was not constant, whose spirit was not faithful to God,
9 Los hijos de Efraím, diestros arqueros, retrocedieron el día del combate;	9 Like the ranks of Ephraimite archers, who retreated on the day of battle.
10 no guardaban la alianza hecha con Dios, rehusaban caminar según su ley;	10 They did not keep God's covenant; they refused to walk by his law.
11 tenían olvidados sus portentos, las maravillas que él les hizo ver:	11 They forgot his works, the wondrous deeds he had shown them.
12 prodigios hizo a la vista de sus padres en el país de Egipto, en los campos de Tanis.	12 In the sight of their ancestors God did wonders, in the land of Egypt, the plain of Zoan.
13 Hendió la mar y los pasó a través, contuvo las aguas como un dique;	13 He split the sea and led them across, piling up the waters rigid as walls.
14 de día los guiaba con la nube, y cada noche con resplandor de fuego;	14 God led them with a cloud by day, all night with the light of fire.
15 en el desierto hendió las rocas, los abrevó a raudales sin medida;	15 He split rock in the desert, gave water to drink, abounding as the deep.
16 hizo brotar arroyos de la peña y descender las aguas como ríos.	16 He made streams flow from crags, drew out rivers of water.
17 Pero ellos volvían a pecar contra él, a rebelarse contra el Altísimo en la estepa;	17 But they went on sinning against him, rebelling against the Most High in the desert.
18 a Dios tentaron en su corazón reclamando manjar para su hambre.	18 They tested God in their hearts, demanding the food they craved.
19 Hablaron contra Dios; dijeron: «¿Será Dios capaz de aderezar una mesa en el desierto?	19 They spoke against God, and said, "Can God spread a table in the desert?
20 «Ved que él hirió la roca, y corrieron las aguas, fluyeron los torrentes: ¿podrá de igual modo darnos pan, y procurar carne a su pueblo?»	20 True, when he struck the rock, water gushed forth, the wadis flooded. But can he also provide bread, give meat to his people?"
21 Entonces Yahveh lo oyó y se enfureció, un fuego se encendió contra Jacob, y la Cólera estalló contra Israel,	21 The LORD heard and grew angry; fire blazed up against Jacob; anger flared up against Israel.
22 porque en Dios no habían tenido fe ni confiaban en su salvación.	22 For they did not believe in God, did not trust in his saving power.
23 Y a las nubes mandó desde lo alto, abrió las compuertas de los cielos;	23 So he commanded the skies above; the doors of heaven he opened.
24 hizo llover sobre ellos maná para comer, les dio el trigo de los cielos;	24 God rained manna upon them for food; bread from heaven he gave them.
25 pan de Fuertes comió el hombre, les mandó provisión hasta la hartura.	25 All ate a meal fit for heroes; food he sent in abundance.
26 Hizo soplar en los cielos el solano, el viento del sur con su poder atrajo,	26 He stirred up the east wind in the heavens; by his power God brought on the south wind.
27 y llovió sobre ellos carne como polvo, y aves como la arena de los mares;	27 He rained meat upon them like dust, winged fowl like the sands of the sea,
28 las dejó caer en medio de su campo, en torno a sus moradas.	28 Brought them down in the midst of the camp, round about their tents.
29 Comieron hasta quedar bien hartos, así satisfizo su avidez;	29 They ate and were well filled; he gave them what they had craved.
30 mas aún no habían colmado su avidez, su comida estaba aún en su boca,	30 But while they still wanted more, and the food was still in their mouths,
31 cuando la cólera de Dios estalló contra ellos: hizo estragos entre los más fuertes, y abatió a la flor de Israel.	31 God's anger attacked them, killed their best warriors, laid low the youth of Israel.
32 Mas con todo pecaron todavía, en sus maravillas no tuvieron fe.	32 In spite of all this they went on sinning, they did not believe in his wonders.
33 El consumió sus días con un soplo, y sus años con espanto.	33 God ended their days abruptly, their years in sudden death.
34 Cuando los mataba, le buscaban, se convertían, se afanaban por él,	34 When he slew them, they began to seek him; they again inquired of their God.
35 y recordaban que Dios era su roca, su redentor, el Dios Altísimo.	35 They remembered that God was their rock, God Most High, their redeemer.
36 Mas le halagaban con su boca, y con su lengua le mentían;	36 But they deceived him with their mouths, lied to him with their tongues.
37 su corazón no era fiel para con él, no tenían fe en su alianza.	37 Their hearts were not constant toward him; they were not faithful to his covenant.
38 El, con todo, enternecido, borraba las culpas y no exterminaba; bien de veces su cólera contuvo y no despertó todo su furor:	38 But God is merciful and forgave their sin; he did not utterly destroy them. Time and again he turned back his anger, unwilling to unleash all his rage.
39 se acordaba de que ellos eran carne, un soplo que se va y no vuelve más.	39 He was mindful that they were flesh, a breath that passes and does not return.
40 ¡Cuántas veces se rebelaron contra él en el desierto, le irritaron en aquellas soledades!	40 How often they rebelled against God in the desert, grieved him in the wasteland.
41 Otra vez a tentar a Dios volvían, a exasperar al Santo de Israel;	41 Again and again they tested God, provoked the Holy One of Israel.
42 no se acordaron de su mano, del día en que les libró del adversario;	42 They did not remember his power, the day he redeemed them from the foe,
43 cuando hizo en Egipto sus señales, en el campo de Tanis sus prodigios.	43 When he displayed his wonders in Egypt, his marvels in the plain of Zoan.
44 Trocó en sangre sus ríos y sus arroyos para que no bebiesen.	44 God changed their rivers to blood; their streams they could not drink.
45 Tábanos les mandó que los comieron, y ranas que los infestaron;	45 He sent insects that devoured them, frogs that destroyed them.
46 entregó a la langosta sus cosechas, el fruto de su afán al saltamontes;	46 He gave their harvest to the caterpillar, the fruits of their labor to the locust.
47 asoló con granizo sus viñedos, y con la helada sus sicómoros;	47 He killed their vines with hail, their sycamores with frost.
48 entregó sus ganados al pedrisco y a los rayos sus rebaños.	48 He exposed their flocks to deadly hail, their cattle to lightning.
49 Lanzó contra ellos el fuego de su cólera, indignación, enojo y destrucción, tropel de mensajeros de desgracias;	49 He unleashed against them his fiery breath, roar, fury, and distress, storming messengers of death.
50 libre curso dio a su ira. No preservó sus almas de la muerte, a la peste sus vidas entregó;	50 He cleared a path for his anger; he did not spare them from death; he delivered their beasts to the plague.
51 hirió en Egipto a todo primogénito, las primicias de la raza en las tiendas de Cam.	51 He struck all the firstborn of Egypt, love's first child in the tents of Ham.
52 Y sacó a su pueblo como ovejas, cual rebaño los guió por el desierto;	52 God led forth his people like sheep; he guided them through the desert like a flock.
53 los guió en seguro, sin temor, mientras el mar cubrió a sus enemigos;	53 He led them on secure and unafraid, but the sea enveloped their enemies.
54 los llevó a su término santo, a este monte que su diestra conquistó;	54 He brought them to his holy land, the mountain his right hand had won.
55 arrojó a las naciones ante ellos; a cordel les asignó una heredad, y estableció en sus tiendas las tribus de Israel.	55 God drove out the nations before them, apportioned them a heritage by lot, settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.
56 Pero ellos le tentaron, se rebelaron contra el Dios Altísimo, se negaron a guardar sus dictámenes,	56 But they tested, rebelled against God Most High, his decrees they did not observe.
57 se extraviaron, infieles, lo mismo que sus padres, se torcieron igual que un arco indócil:	57 They turned back, deceitful like their ancestors; they proved false like a bow with no tension.
58 le irritaron con sus altos, con sus ídolos excitaron sus celos.	58 They enraged him with their high places; with their idols they goaded him.
59 Dios lo oyó y se enfureció, desechó totalmente a Israel;	59 God heard and grew angry; he rejected Israel completely.
60 abandonó la morada de Silo, la tienda en que habitaba entre los hombres.	60 He forsook the shrine at Shiloh, the tent where he dwelt with humans.
61 Mandó su fuerza al cautiverio, a manos del adversario su esplendor;	61 He gave up his might into captivity, his glorious ark into the hands of the foe.
62 entregó su pueblo a la espada, contra su heredad se enfureció.	62 God abandoned his people to the sword; he was enraged against his heritage.
63 El fuego devoró a sus jóvenes, no hubo canto nupcial para sus vírgenes;	63 Fire consumed their young men; their young women heard no wedding songs.
64 sus sacerdotes cayeron a cuchillo, sus viudas no entonaron lamentos.	64 Their priests fell by the sword; their widows made no lamentation.
65 Entonces despertó el Señor como un durmiente, como un bravo vencido por el vino;	65 Then the Lord awoke as from sleep, like a warrior from the effects of wine.
66 hirió a sus adversarios en la espalda, les infligió un oprobio eterno.	66 He put his enemies to flight; everlasting shame he dealt them.
67 Desechó la tienda de José, y no eligió a la tribu de Efraím;	67 He rejected the tent of Joseph, chose not the tribe of Ephraim.
68 mas eligió a la tribu de Judá, el monte Sión al cual amaba.	68 God chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which he favored.
69 Construyó como las alturas del cielo su santuario, como la tierra que fundó por siempre.	69 He built his shrine like the heavens, like the earth which he founded forever.
70 Y eligió a David su servidor, le sacó de los apriscos del rebaño,	70 He chose David his servant, took him from the sheepfold.
71 le trajo de detrás de las ovejas, para pastorear a su pueblo Jacob, y a Israel, su heredad.	71 From tending sheep God brought him, to shepherd Jacob, his people, Israel, his heritage.
72 El los pastoreaba con corazón perfecto, y con mano diestra los guiaba.	72 He shepherded them with a pure heart; with skilled hands he guided them.
