1 Davidde adunque andò via, e si rifuggì nella caverna di Odollam. La qual cosa essendo andata alle orecchie dei suoi fratelli, e di tutta la famiglia del padre suo, andaron colà a trovarlo.	1 Then David went away from there, and he fled to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all of his father’s house had heard of it, they descended to him there.
2 E si raunarono presso di lui tutti quelli che si trovavano in angustie, ed erano oppressi da debiti, e afflitti di spinto: e diventò loro capo ed ebbe con se circa quattrocento uomini.	2 And all those left in distress, or oppressed by debt to strangers, or bitter in soul, gathered themselves to him. And he became their leader, and about four hundred men were with him.
3 E partitosi da quel luogo andò David a Maspha di Moab, e disse al re di Moab: Resti, ti prego, il padre mio, e la mia madre con voi sino a tanto che io sappia quello che Dio disponga di me.	3 And David set out from there to Mizpah, which is of Moab. And he said to the king of Moab, “I beg you, let my father and my mother remain with you, until I know what God will do for me.”
4 E lasciogli presso al re di Moab: e ivi rimasero per tutto il tempo che David si stette in quella fortezza.	4 And he left them before the face of the king of Moab. And they stayed with him for all the days that David was in the stronghold.
5 Ma Gad profeta disse a David: non istar più nella fortezza, ma parti, e va nella terra di Giuda. E Davidde partì, e andò nella selva di Haret.	5 And the prophet Gad said to David: “Do not choose to stay in the stronghold. Set out and go into the land of Judah.” And so, David set out, and he went into the forest of Hereth.
6 E Saul seppe che David, e la gente che lo seguiva, erano comparsi. Or Saulle stando in Gabaa, ed essendo una volta nel bosco, che è a Rama, avendo in mano la lancia, e intorno a sè tutti i suoi servi,	6 And Saul heard that David, and the men who were with him, had been seen. Now while Saul was staying in Gibeah, and while he was in the forest that is in Ramah, holding a spear in his hand, with all his servants standing around him,
7 Disse a quelli che lo corteggiavano: Ascoltate adesso, figliuoli di Jemini: forse che il figliuolo d'Isai darà a voi tutti de' poderi, e delle vigne, e faravvi tutti tribuni e centurioni,	7 he said to his servants who were assisting him: “Listen now, you sons of Benjamin! Will the son of Jesse give to all of you fields and vineyards, and will he make all of you tribunes or centurions,
8 Che avete congiurato tutti contro di me, e non havvi chi mi rechi verun avviso, particolarmente dopo che il mio figliuolo ha fatto alleanza col figliuolo d'Isai? Non v'ha alcuno di voi che compiange la mia sorte, o mi dia consiglio: mentre il mio figliuolo ha animato contro di me il mio servo, il quale sino a quest'oggi mi tende insidie.	8 so that you would all conspire against me, and so that there is no one to inform me, especially when even my son has formed a pact with the son of Jesse? There is no one among you who grieves for my situation, or who would report to me. For my son has raised up my servant against me, seeking to betray me, even to this day.”
9 Rispose Doeg Idumeo, che era presente, e il primo tra' servi di Saul, e disse: Io vidi il figliuolo d'Isai a Nobe presso il sacerdote Achimelech, figliuolo di Achitob:	9 Then Doeg, the Edomite, who was standing near, and who was first among the servants of Saul, responding, said: “I saw the son of Jesse, in Nob, with Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub, the priest.
10 Il quale consultò il Signore per lui, e gli diede dei viveri: e di più gli diede anche la spada di Goliath Filisteo.	10 And he consulted the Lord for him, and he gave him food. Moreover, he gave him the sword of Goliath, the Philistine.”
11 Allora il re mandò a chiamare Achimelech sacerdote, figliuolo di Achitob, e tutti i sacerdoti della casa di lui, che erano in Nobe, i quali tutti si presentarono al re.	11 Then the king sent to summon Ahimelech, the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all of his father’s house, the priests who were in Nob, and they all came before the king.
12 E Saul disse ad Achimelech: Ascolta, figliuolo di Achitob. Ed egli rispose: Son qui, o signore.	12 And Saul said to Ahimelech, “Listen, son of Ahitub.” He responded, “Here I am, lord.”
13 E dissegli Saul: Per qual motivo avete congiurato contro di me tu, e il figliuolo d’Isai, e tu gli hai dato dei pani, e la spada, e hai consultato Dio per lui, affinchè si levasse egli a ribellione contro di me, e continuasse fino al dì d'oggi?	13 And Saul said to him: “Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse? For you gave him bread and a sword, and you consulted the Lord for him, so that he might rise up against me, continuing as a traitor even to this day.”
14 E Achimelech rispose al re, e disse: E chi vi ha tra tutti i tuoi servi fedele, come David genero del re, e pronto al tuo comando e rispettato nella tua casa?	14 And responding to the king, Ahimelech said: “But who among all your servants is as faithful as David? And he is the son-in-law of the king, and he goes forth at your order, and he is a glory within your house.
15 Ho io forse principiato adesso a consultare Dio per lui? Lungi da me tal cosa: e tu o re, non sospettar di tal cosa riguardo al tuo servo, nè riguardo a tutta la casa del padre mio: imperocché nulla ha saputo il tuo servo di queste cose nè poco, nè molto.	15 Did I begin to consult the Lord for him today? May this be far from me! Let not the king suspect this kind of thing against his servant, nor against anyone in all my father’s house. For your servant did not know anything about this matter, either small or great.”
16 E il re disse: Tu morrai senz'altro, Achimelech, tu e tutta la casa del padre tuo.	16 And the king said, “You shall die a death, Ahimelech, you and all your father’s house!”
17 E il re disse alle guardie, che gli erano d'intorno: Circondate, e uccidete i sacerdoti del Signore; perocché sono d'accordo con Davidde, e sapevano che egli era fuggito, e non me ne han dato parte. Ma i servi del re non vollero stender le loro mani contro i sacerdoti del Signore.	17 And the king said to the emissaries who were standing around him: “You shall turn, and put to death the priests of the Lord. For their hand is with David. They knew that he had fled, and they did not reveal it to me.” But the servants of the king were not willing to extend their hands against the priests of the Lord.
18 E il re disse a Doeg: Va tu, e gettati sopra i sacerdoti. E Doeg Idumeo andò, e si gettò sopra i sacerdoti, e trucidò in quel giorno ottantacinque uomini che portavano l’Ephod di lino.	18 And the king said to Doeg, “You shall turn and rush against the priests.” And Doeg, the Edomite, turned and rushed against the priests. And he massacred, on that day, eighty-five men, vested with the linen ephod.
19 E in Nobe città dei sacerdoti mise a fil di spada uomini, e donne, fanciulli, e bambini di latte, i bovi eziandio, e gli asini, e le pecore.	19 Then he struck Nob, the city of the priests, with the edge of the sword; he struck down men and women, little ones and infants, as well as ox and donkey and sheep, with the edge of the sword.
20 Ma un figliuolo di Achimelech, figliuolo di Achitob, che avea nome Abiathar, si rifuggì presso a Davidde,	20 But one of the sons of Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub, whose name was Abiathar, escaping, fled to David.
21 E portogli la nuova che Saul avea uccisi i sacerdoti del Signore.	21 And he reported to him that Saul had slain the priests of the Lord.
22 E disse David ad Abiathar: Io sapeva in quel dì, che essendo ivi Doeg Idumeo, avrebbe senza dubbio avvertito Saul: io son reo della morte di tutta la casa del padre tuo.	22 And David said to Abiathar: “I knew, on that day when Doeg, the Edomite was there, that without doubt he would report it to Saul. I am guilty of all the souls of your father’s house.
23 Restati meco: non temere: chi cercherà la mia vita, cercherà anche la tua, e meco pure avrai salute.	23 You should remain with me. Do not be afraid. For he who seeks my life, seeks your life also, but with me you shall be saved.”
