1 E sorse il profeta Elia come un fuoco, e le parole di lui erano come ardente facella.	1 Till like a fire there appeared the prophet whose words were as a flaming furnace.
2 Egli fece venir contro di essi la fame, e quelli, che per invidia il perseguitavano, si ridussero a pochi; perocché non potevan coloro sopportare i comandamenti del Signore.	2 Their staff of bread he shattered, in his zeal he reduced them to straits;
3 Egli colla parola del Signore chiuse il cielo, e tre volte fece dal cielo cadere il fuoco:	3 By God's word he shut up the heavens and three times brought down fire.
4 Cosi Elia si rendè glorioso co' suoi miracoli. E chi è, che possa gloriarsene al pari di te.	4 How awesome are you, ELIJAH! Whose glory is equal to yours?
5 Tu in virtù della parola di Dio Signore traesti un morto dall'inferno, e dalla giurisdizione della morte.	5 You brought a dead man back to life from the nether world, by the will of the LORD.
6 Tu abbattesti i regi, e con facilità, conquidesti la possanza di essi, e i gloriosi (facesti cadere) da' loro letti.	6 You sent kings down to destruction, and nobles, from their beds of sickness.
7 Tu ascoltasti sul Sina il giudizio, e sull'Horeb i decreti di vendetta.	7 You heard threats at Sinai, at Horeb avenging judgments.
8 Tu ungi dei regi, che faccian vendetta, e lasci dopo di te de' profeti tuoi successori.	8 You anointed kings who should inflict vengeance, and a prophet as your successor.
9 Tu fosti rapito in un turbine di fuoco sopra un cocchio tirato da cavalli di fuoco.	9 You were taken aloft in a whirlwind, in a chariot with fiery horses.
10 Tu sei scritto ne' decreti dei tempi, come quegli, che placherai l'ira del Signore, riunirai il cuore del padre col figlio, e rimetterai in piedi le tribù di Giacobbe.	10 You are destined, it is written, in time to come to put an end to wrath before the day of the LORD, To turn back the hearts of fathers toward their sons, and to reestablish the tribes of Jacob.
11 Beati quei, che ti videro, ed ebber la gloria di averti per amico;	11 Blessed is he who shall have seen you before he dies,
12 Perocché noi questa sola vita viviamo, e dopo la morte tal non sarà il nostro nome	12 O Elijah, enveloped in the whirlwind! Then ELISHA, filled with a twofold portion of his spirit, wrought many marvels by his mere word. During his lifetime he feared no one, nor was any man able to intimidate his will.
13 Or Elia fu involto nel turbino, ed Eliseo ebbe la pienezza del suo spinto; egli ne' suoi tempi non temè alcun principe, e nissun lo vinse colla potenza:	13 Nothing was beyond his power; beneath him flesh was brought back into life.
14 Né parola alcuna lo vinse, e il corpo morto di lui profetò.	14 In life he performed wonders, and after death, marvelous deeds.
15 Nel tempo di sua vita operò prodigj, e fece cose mirabili nella sua morte.	15 Despite all this the people did not repent, nor did they give up their sins, Until they were rooted out of their land and scattered all over the earth. But Judah remained, a tiny people, with its rulers from the house of David.
16 Ma per tutto qnesto il popolo non si pentì, e non lasciarono i loro peccati fino a tanto, che furono cacciati dal loro paese, e dispersi per tutta la terra:	16 Some of these did what was right, but others were extremely sinful.
17 E restò pochissima gente, e un prìncipe della casa di David.	17 HEZEKIAH fortified his city and had water brought into it; With iron tools he cut through the rock and he built reservoirs for water.
18 Alcuni di essi fecero quello, che Dio voleva; altri poi fecer molti peccati.	18 During his reign Sennacherib led an invasion and sent his adjutant; He shook his fist at Zion and blasphemed God in his pride.
19 Ezechia fortificò la città, e condusse acqua nel contro di essa, e scavò un masso a forza di ferro, e vi fece una cisterna per l'acqua.	19 The people's hearts melted within them, and they were in anguish like that of childbirth.
20 A tempo di lui venne Sennacherib, e spedi Rabsace, ed egli alzò la mano contro i Giudei, e la mano stese contro Sionne, di venuto superbo per le sue forze.	20 But they called upon the Most High God and lifted up their hands to him; He heard the prayer they uttered, and saved them through ISAIAH.
21 Allora furon commossi i loro cuori, e cadder loro le braccia, e dolori provarono come di donna, che partorisce.	21 God struck the camp of the Assyrians and routed them with a plague.
22 E invocarono il Signore misericordioso, e steser le mani, e le alzarono verso il cielo, e il Signore Dio santo udì tosto le voci loro.	22 For Hezekiah did what was right and held fast to the paths of David, As ordered by the illustrious prophet Isaiah, who saw the truth in visions.
23 Né si ricordò più de' loro peccati, e non li dette in balìa de' loro nemici, ma li purificò per mezzo di Isaia profeta santo.	23 In his lifetime he turned back the sun and prolonged the life of the king.
24 Egli dissipò il campo degli Assirj, e l'Angelo del Signore gli sterminò:	24 By his powerful spirit he looked into the future and consoled the mourners of Zion;
25 Perché Ezechia fece quello, che Dio voleva, e camminò nelle vie di David suo padre, come aveva a lui raccomandato Isaia profeta grande, e fedele nel cospetto del Signore.	25 He foretold what should be till the end of time, hidden things yet to be fulfilled.
26 A tempo di lui il sole tornò in dietro, ed egli prolungò la vita al re.
27 Egli con grande spirito vide gli ultimi tempi, e consolò i piangenti di Sion.
28 Egli dimostrò le cose, che hanno da essere sino all'eternità, e le cose nascoste prima, che succedessero.
