1 A chi teme il Signore, nulla avverrà di male, ma nella tentazione Iddio lo conserverà, e lo libererà dai mali.	1 No evils will befall one who fears the Lord. Instead, God will preserve him during temptation and will free him from evils.
2 L'uomo sapiente non odia i comandamenti, e la legge, e non darà negli scogli, come una nave in tempesta.	2 A wise man does not hate the commandments and the justices, and so he will not be thrown about violently, like a ship in a storm.
3 L'uomo sensato è fedele alla legge di Dio, e la legge è fedele a lui.	3 A man of understanding puts his faith in the law of God, and so the law is faithful to him.
4 Chi illustra un quesito, si preparerà a discorrerne, e cosi dopo fatta orazione sarà esaudito, e conserverà la buona dottrina, a allora risponderà.	4 Whoever would resolve a dispute will prepare a word, and so, having prayed, he will be heard. And he will observe discipline, and then he will respond.
5 Il cuore dello stolto è come la ruota di un carro, e i suoi pensieri son come un asse, che gira.	5 The heart of a fool is like the wheel of a cart. And his thoughts are like a turning axel.
6 L'amico finto è come un cavallo stallone, il quale nitrisce a chiunque il cavalca.	6 A friend who is a whisperer is like an untamed horse: he neighs under anyone who sits upon him.
7 Donde avvien egli, che un giorno è da più di un altro, e la luce di un dì è da più di un'altra, e un anno da più dell'altro, sendo tutti dal sole?	7 Why does day follow after day, and light follow after light, and year follow after year, in accord with the sun?
8 La sapienza del Signore li distinse dopo creato il sole, che ubbidisce agli ordini ricevuti.	8 By the knowledge of the Lord, they were arranged, after the sun was made, in keeping with his command.
9 Egli ordinò le stagioni, e in esse i loro giorni festivi, onde in quelle si celebrano le solennità all'ora stabilita.	9 And so, the seasons changed, with their feast days. And according to them, they celebrated the feast days, in their hour.
10 Di essi giorni Dio alcuni li fece grandi, ed altri lasciò nella turba de' giorni; e tutti gli uomini li fece di polvere, e di terra, donde fu creato Adamo.	10 Some of them, God exalted and magnified. And some of them, he set amid the ordinary days. And all men are from the ground, and from the earth, from which Adam was created.
11 Colla sua molta sapienza il Signore li distinse, e variò le lor condizioni.	11 With a mulititude of disciplines, the Lord has distinguished them and diversified their ways.
12 Di essi altri ne benedisse, e gli esaltò, e ne santificò, e ne prese per se, e altri maledisse, e umiliò, e li discacciò dal paese dove stavano separati.	12 Some of them, he has blessed and exalted. And some of them he has sanctified and placed close to himself. And some of them, he has cursed and brought low, and he has turned them from their station.
13 Come la creta del vasaio è nelle mani di lui per impastarla, e metterla in opera.	13 Just as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so as to form and to shape it,
14 E l'uso di essa è in suo arbitrio; così l'uomo è nelle mani di colui, che lo fece, il quale renderà a lui secondo i suoi giudizj.	14 so are all his ways in accord with his dispensation, and so is man in the hand of the One who made him. And he will repay him according to his judgment.
15 Il bene è contrario al male, e la Tita è contraria alla morte; così l'uomo giusto sta di contro al peccatore; e cosi tutte le opere dell'Altissimo le vedrai a due a due, e l'una opposta all'altra.	15 Good is against evil, and life is against death; so also is a sinner against a just man. And so should you consider all the works of the Most High: two and two, and one against another.
16 Or io mi sono alzato l'ultimo, e come uno, che raspolla dopo i vendemmiatori.	16 And I awakened at the very end, and I was like one who gathers grapes after the grape-gatherers.
17 Io pure nella benedizione di Dio ho sperato, e come un che vendemmia ho empiuto il tino.	17 I, too, have hoped in the blessing of God. And I have filled the winepress like one who gathers grapes.
18 Mirate com'io non per me solo ho faticato, ma per tutti quelli, che cercano d'istruirsi.	18 Consider how I have not labored for myself alone, but for all who are seeking discipline.
19 Ascoltate me, o magnati, e popoli tutti quanti, e voi, che presiedete all'adunanze, porgete attente le orecchie.	19 Listen to me, you great ones, with all the peoples. And incline your ears, you rulers of the Church.
20 Al figliuolo, e alla moglie, al fratello, e all'amico non dar potestà sopra di te, fino, che tu se' vivo, e non cedere ad altri quelle cose, che tu possiedi, affinchè non avvenga, che ripentito tu debba inchinarti a ridomandarle.	20 You should not give authority over yourself to a son or wife, to a brother or friend, in your life. And you should not give your estate to another, lest perhaps you may regret it, and then you would be begging for the same.
21 Sino a tanto che tu se' al mondo, e respiri, nissun uomo ti faccia mutar di parere;	21 While you are still living and breathing, let no one among all flesh change you.
22 Perocché è meglio, che i tuoi figliuoli debban ricorrer a te, che se tu avessi ad aspettare l'aiuto de' figliuoli.	22 For it is better if your children petition you, than if you look toward the hands of your children.
23 In tutte le cose tue mantieni la tua superiorità:	23 In all your works, be pre-eminent.
24 Affine di non macchiare la tua riputazione. E quando son per finire i giorni della tua vita, e nel tempo di tua morte distribuisci la tua eredità.	24 You should not allow a blemish upon your glory. On the day of the consummation of the days of your life, at the time of your passing, distribute your inheritance.
25 Fieno, bastone, e soma all'asino; pane, sferza, e lavoro allo schiavo.	25 Fodder and a rod and a burden are for a donkey; bread and discipline and work are for a servant.
26 Questi lavora quand'è castigato, e ama il riposo: allarga con lui la mano, ed egli cercherà di mettersi in libertà.	26 He works under discipline, and he seeks rest. Allow his hands to be idle, and he seeks liberty.
27 Il giogo, e la fune piegano il collo duro, e l'assidua fatica ammansisce il servo.	27 The yoke and the strap bend a stiff neck, and continual labors bend a servant.
28 Al servo di mala volontà battiture, e ceppi. Mandalo al lavoro, affinché non istia in ozio;	28 Torture and chains are for a malevolent servant; send him to work, so that he may not be idle.
29 Perocché l'oziosità di molli vizi è maestra.	29 For idleness has taught much evil.
30 Costringilo a lavorare, perché ciò a lui si conviene, e se egli non sarà ubbidiente, fallo docile col metterlo a' ceppi, ma guardati dagli eccessi contro la carne di chicchessia, e non far cosa grave senza ponderazione.	30 Appoint him to a task. For this is fitting for him. And if he will not be obedient, bend him with chains. But you should do no more than any flesh can bear. Truly, you should do nothing grievous without judgment.
31 Se tu hai un servo fedele, tienne conto come dell'anima tua: trattalo come fratello: perocché lo hai comperato col tuo sangue.	31 If you have a faithful servant, let him be to you like your own soul. Treat him like a brother. For you have obtained him by the blood of your soul.
32 Se tu ingiustamente il maltratti, egli si darà alla fuga.	32 If you harm him unjustly, he will turn away and flee.
33 Che se egli si toglie da te, e se ne va, tu non sai a chi domandarne, nè per qual via ricercarlo.	33 And then, when he lifts himself up and departs, you will not know whom to ask, or in what way to seek him.
