Geremia 37

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il re Sedecia, figlio di Giosia, regnò in luogo di Geconia figlio di Ioachim, essendo stato fatto re del paese di Giuda da Nabucodonosor re di Babilonia.	1 Zedekiah son of Josiah became king, succeeding Coniah son of Jehoiakim. Nebuchadnezzar king ofBabylon had made him king of Judah.
2 Ma nè lui, nè i suoi servi, nè il popolo del paese obbedirono alle parole dette dal Signore per mezzo del profeta Geremia.	2 But neither he nor his courtiers nor the people of the country paid any attention to the words Yahwehspoke through the prophet Jeremiah.
3 Il re Sedecia mandò Iucal figlio di Selemia, e Sofonia figlio di Maasia, sacerdote, a dire al profeta Geremia: « Prega per noi il Signore Dio nostro ».	3 King Zedekiah sent Jehucal son of Shelemiah and the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah to the prophetJeremiah with this message, 'Intercede for us with Yahweh our God.'
4 Allora Geremia andava e veniva liberamente tra il popolo, non avendolo ancora messo in prigione. Or l'esercito di Faraone usci dall'Egitto, e i Caldei che assediavano Gerusalemme, sentita questa notizia, si ritirarono da Gerusalemme.	4 Now Jeremiah was still moving freely among the people: he had not yet been put in prison.
5 Allora il Signore parlò al profeta Geremia, dicendo:	5 Meanwhile Pharaoh's army was on the move from Egypt and the Chaldaeans besieging Jerusalem hadraised the siege when they heard the news.
6 « Così parla il Signore, il Dio d'Israele: Così direte al re di Giuda che vi ha mandati a consultarmi: Ecco che l'esercito di Faraone, il quale è venuto in vostro soccorso, ritornerà nella sua terra, in Egitto,	6 Then the word of Yahweh came to the prophet Jeremiah as fol ows,
7 e i Caldei, tornati, attaccheranno questa città, la prenderanno, la daranno alle fiamme.	7 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "To the king of Judah who sent you to consult me make this reply: IsPharaoh's army marching to your aid? It wil withdraw to its own country, Egypt.
8 Ecco quanto dice il Signore: Non v'illudete col dire: « Se ne andranno del tutto, si allontaneranno da noi i Caldei », perchè essi non se ne andranno.	8 The Chaldaeans wil return to attack this city; they will capture it and burn it down.
9 Ed anche dato che voi aveste disfatto l'esercito dei Caldei che combattono contro di voi, e restassero di loro soltanto pochi feriti, questi usciranno a uno a uno dalla loro tenda e daranno questa città alle fiamme ».	9 Yahweh says this: Do not cheer yourselves up by thinking: The Chaldaeans are leaving us for good.They are not leaving.
10 Or quando l'esercito dei Caldei si ritirò da Gerusalemme a causa dell'esercito di Faraone,	10 Even if you cut to pieces the whole Chaldaean army now fighting against you until there were only thewounded left, they would stand up again, each man in his tent, to burn this city down." '
11 Geremia usci da Gerusalemme, per andare nella terra di Beniamino, a spartire davanti ai cittadini un possesso.	11 At the time when the Chaldaean army, threatened by Pharaoh's army, had raised the siege ofJerusalem,
12 Ma giunto alla porta di Beniamino, il custode che v'era di turno, chiamato Gena, figlio di Selemia, figlio di Anania, arrestò Geremia, profeta, dicendogli: « Tu passi ai Caldei ».	12 Jeremiah set out from Jerusalem for the territory of Benjamin to see about a piece of his propertyamong the people there.
13 Geremia rispose: « Ciò è falso: io non passo ai Caldei ». Ma Gerla, senza dargli ascolto, preso Geremia, lo menò ai principi.	13 He was at the Benjamin Gate when the guard commander there, a certain Irijah son of Shelemiah,son of Hananiah, arrested the prophet Jeremiah, shouting, 'You are deserting to the Chaldaeans!'
14 I principi s'adirarono contro Geremia, e, fattolo battere, lo misero in prigione nella casa di Ionatan segretario, il quale aveva la sopraintendenza della carcere.	14 Jeremiah answered, 'It is a lie! I am not deserting to the Chaldaeans.' But Irijah would not listen toJeremiah and took him under arrest to the chief men.
15 Geremia entrò nella fossa, nell'ergastolo, e vi stette molti giorni.	15 And the chief men, furious with Jeremiah, had him beaten and shut up in the house of the scribeJonathan, which had been turned into a prison.
16 Ma il re Sedecia mandò a cavarlo, e lo interrogò in segreto in casa sua, e disse: « V'è qualche parola da parte del Signore? » « Sì, — rispose Geremia, e soggiunse: — Tu sarai dato in potere del re di Babilonia ».	16 Thus Jeremiah found himself in an underground vault. And there for a long time he stayed.
17 Poi Geremia disse al re Sedecia: « Qual male ho fatto contro di te, contro i tuoi servi, contro il tuo popolo, per esser da te mandato in prigione?	17 Later, King Zedekiah had him sent for, and the king questioned him privately in his palace. 'Is thereany word from Yahweh?' he asked. 'There is,' Jeremiah answered, and added, 'you wil be handed over to theking of Babylon.'
18 Dove sono i vostri profeti che vi profetizzavano, dicendo: — Non verrà il re di Babilonia contro di voi e contro questo paese? —	18 Jeremiah then said to King Zedekiah, 'What wrong have I done you, or your courtiers or this people,for you to have put me in prison?
19 Ed ora ascolta, te ne prego, o re mio signore; sia efficace davanti a te la mia preghiera: non mi rimandare nella casa del segretario Ionatan, a morirvi ».	19 Where are your prophets now who prophesied, "The king of Babylon wil not attack you or thiscountry"?
20 Il re Sedecia ordinò che Geremia fosse messo nel vestibolo della prigione, e gli fosse dato ogni giorno un pane, oltre il companatico, finché ci fosse pane in oittà. Così Geremia rimase nel vestibolo della prigione.	20 So now I beg you to hear me, my lord king! I beg you to approve my request! Do not have me takenback to the house of the scribe Jonathan, or I shall die there.'
	21 King Zedekiah then gave an order, and Jeremiah was confined in the Court of the Guard and given aloaf of bread a day from the Street of the Bakers as long as there was bread left in the city. So Jeremiah stayedin the Court of the Guard.
