BIBBIA TINTORI	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Chi vuol vendicarsi proverà le vendette del Signore, il quale terrà esatto conto dei suoi peccati.	1 He that seeketh to revenge himself, shall find vengeance from the Lord, and he will surely keep his sins in remembrance.
2 Perdona al tuo prossimo i torti che t'ha fatto, e allora, quando pregherai, ti saran rimessi i peccati.	2 Forgive thy neighbour if he hath hurl thee: and then shall thy sins be forgiven to thee when thou prayest.
3 L'uomo che resta adirato contro un altro uomo come fa a chiedere a Dio la guarigione?	3 Man to man reserveth anger, and doth he seek remedy of God?
4 Egli non ha compassione per un uomo suo simile e porge suppliche per i suoi peccati?	4 He hath no mercy on a man like himself, and doth he entreat for his own sins?
5 Egli, che è carne, conserva il rancore, e chiede a Dio il perdono? Chi pregherà per i suoi peccati?	5 He that is but flesh, nourisheth anger, and doth he ask forgiveness of God? who shall obtain pardon for his sins?
6 Ricordati dei tuoi novissimi e deponi il rancore:	6 Remember thy last things, and let enmity cease:
7 la corruzione e la morte son minacciate nei comandamenti del Signore.	7 For corruption and death hang over in his commandments.
8 Ricordati del timor di Dio e non ti adirare col prossimo.	8 Remember the fear of God, and be not angry with thy neighbour.
9 Ricorda il patto dell'Altissimo e passa sopra all'ignoranza del prossimo.	9 Remember the covenant of the most High, and overlook the ignorance of thy neighbour.
10 Tienti lontano dalle liti, e diminuirai i peccati;	10 Refrain from strife, and thou shalt diminish thy sine:
11 perchè l'uomo iracondo attizza le liti, e l'uomo peccatore mette la discordia tra gli amici, e semina inimicizie tra coloro che stavano in pace.	11 For a passionate man kindleth strife, and a sinful man will trouble his friends, and bring in debate in the midst of them that are at peace.
12 Come l'incendio alza la fiamma secondo le legna del bosco, così secondo la potenza dell'uomo sarà il suo sdegno, e secondo le sue ricchezze farà montare la sua ira.	12 For as the wood of the forest is, so the fire burneth: and as a man's strength is, so shall his anger be, and according to his riches he shall increase his anger.
13 Litigio subitaneo accende il fuoco, e rissa precipitosa fa sparger sangue, e lingua che rende testimonianza è causa di morte.	13 A hasty contention kindleth a fire: and a hasty quarrel sheddeth blood: and a tongue that beareth witness bringeth death.
14 Se soffierai sopra una favilla, si accenderà come fiamma, se vi sputerai sopra si spegnerà: l'una e l'altra cosa vien dalla bocca.	14 If thou blow the spark, it shall burn as a fire: and if thou spit upon it, it shall be quenched: both come out of the mouth.
15 Il mormoratore e l'uomo a doppia lingua è maledetto; che metterà lo scompiglio tra molti che stavano in pace.	15 The whisperer and the double tongued is accursed: for he hath troubled many that were at peace.
16 La lingua calunniatrice ha agitato molti e li ha dispersi da un popolo all'altro;	16 The tongue of a third person hath disquieted many, and scattered them from nation to nation.
17 ha distrutte città forti e ricche, ed ha rovinate le case dei grandi;	17 It hath destroyed the strong cities of the rich, and hath overthrown the houses of great men.
18 ha annientate le forze dei popoli, ha disfatte valorose nazioni. 1	18 It hath cut in pieces the forces of people, and undone strong nations.
19 La lingua calunniatri le ha cacciate fuori di casa donne virili e le ha private del frutto delle loro fatiche.	19 The tongue of a third person hath cast out valiant women, and deprived them of their labours.
20 Chi le dà retta non avrà pace, e non avrà amico in cui confidare.	20 He that hearkeneth to it, shall never have rest, neither shall he have a friend in whom he may repose.
21 Il colpo della sferza fa lividura, ma il colpo della lingua rompe le ossa.	21 The stroke of a whip maketh a blue mark: but the stroke of the tongue will break the bones.
22 Molti morirono per mezzo della spada; ma non sono quanto quelli uccisi dalla propria lingua.	22 Many have fallen by the edge of the sword, but not so many as have perished by their own tongue.
23 Felice chi è al sicuro dalla lingua cattiva, che non è passato tra i furori di lei, che non ne ha portato il giogo, e dalle catene di lei non è stato avvinto;	23 Blessed is he that is defended from a wicked tongue, that hath not passed into the wrath thereof, and that hath not drawn the yoke thereof, and hath not been bound in its bands.
24 perchè il suo giogo è giogo di ferro e la sua catena è catena di bronzo:	24 For its yoke is a yoke of iron: and its bands are bands of brass.
25 la morte che da lei viene è la peggiore morte, l'inferno è migliore di lei.	25 The death thereof is a most evil death: and hell is preferable to it.
26 Essa non avrà lunga durata, ma regnerà nelle vie degli iniqui, e la sua fiamma non brucerà i giusti.	26 Its continuance shall not be for a long time, but it shall possess the ways of the unjust: and the just shall not be burnt with its flame.
27 Cadranno in suo potere quelli che abbandonano Dio; sopra di essi avvamperà senza spegnersi, sarà lancia ta contro di essi qual leone, e li sbranerà qual leopardo.	27 They that forsake God shall fall into it, and it shall burn in them, and shall not be quenched, and it shall be sent upon them as a lion, and as a leopard it shall tear them.
28 Metti una siepe di spine alle tue orecchie, e non voler ascoltare la mala lingua, e alla tua bocca metti porte e chiavistelli.	28 Hedge in thy ears with thorns, hear not a wicked tongue, and make doors and bars to thy mouth.
29 Fondi il tuo oro e il tuo argento, e fai una bilancia per le tue parole e un freno bene aggiustato alla tua bocca,	29 Melt down thy gold and silver, and make a balance for thy words, and a just bridle for thy mouth:
30 e bada di non peccare colla tua lingua; affinchè tu non cada davanti ai tuoi nemici che t'insidiano e la tua caduta sia così incurabile da doverne morire.	30 And take heed lest thou slip with thy tongue, and fall in the sight of thy enemies who lie in wait for thee, and thy fall be incurable unto death.
