1 Mi fu rivolta questa parola del Signore:	1 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
2 «Figlio dell’uomo, fa’ conoscere a Gerusalemme tutti i suoi abomini.	2 “Son of man, make known to Jerusalem her abominations.
3 Dirai loro: Così dice il Signore Dio a Gerusalemme: Tu sei, per origine e nascita, del paese dei Cananei; tuo padre era un Amorreo e tua madre un’Ittita.	3 And you shall say: Thus says the Lord God to Jerusalem: Your root and your lineage is from the land of Canaan; your father was an Amorite, and your mother was a Cethite.
4 Alla tua nascita, quando fosti partorita, non ti fu tagliato il cordone ombelicale e non fosti lavata con l’acqua per purificarti; non ti fecero le frizioni di sale né fosti avvolta in fasce.	4 And when you were born, on the day of your nativity, your umbilical cord was not cut, and you were not washed with water for health, nor salted with salt, nor wrapped with cloths.
5 Occhio pietoso non si volse verso di te per farti una sola di queste cose e non ebbe compassione nei tuoi confronti, ma come oggetto ripugnante, il giorno della tua nascita, fosti gettata via in piena campagna.	5 No eye took pity on you, so as to do even one of these things to you, out of compassion for you. Instead, you were cast upon the face of the earth, in the abjection of your soul, on the day when you were born.
6 Passai vicino a te, ti vidi mentre ti dibattevi nel sangue e ti dissi: Vivi nel tuo sangue	6 But, passing by you, I saw that you were wallowing in your own blood. And I said to you, when you were in your blood: ‘Live.’ I tell you that I said to you, in your blood: ‘Live.’
7 e cresci come l’erba del campo. Crescesti, ti facesti grande e giungesti al fiore della giovinezza. Il tuo petto divenne fiorente ed eri giunta ormai alla pubertà, ma eri nuda e scoperta.	7 I multiplied you like the seedling of the field. And you were multiplied and became great, and you advanced and arrived at the ornament of a woman. Your breasts rose up, and your hair grew. And you were naked and full of shame.
8 Passai vicino a te e ti vidi. Ecco: la tua età era l’età dell’amore. Io stesi il lembo del mio mantello su di te e coprii la tua nudità. Ti feci un giuramento e strinsi alleanza con te – oracolo del Signore Dio – e divenisti mia.	8 And I passed by you and saw you. And behold, your time was the time of lovers. And I spread my garment over you, and I covered your disgrace. And I swore to you, and I entered into a covenant with you, says the Lord God, and you became mine.
9 Ti lavai con acqua, ti ripulii del sangue e ti unsi con olio.	9 And I washed you with water, and I cleansed you of your blood. And I anointed you with oil.
10 Ti vestii di ricami, ti calzai di pelle di tasso, ti cinsi il capo di bisso e ti ricoprii di stoffa preziosa.	10 And I covered you with embroidery, and I put violet shoes upon you, and I wrapped you in fine linen, and I clothed you with delicate garments.
11 Ti adornai di gioielli. Ti misi braccialetti ai polsi e una collana al collo;	11 I adorned you with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon your hands and a necklace around your neck.
12 misi al tuo naso un anello, orecchini agli orecchi e una splendida corona sul tuo capo.	12 And I put gold upon your face, and earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown upon your head.
13 Così fosti adorna d’oro e d’argento. Le tue vesti erano di bisso, di stoffa preziosa e ricami. Fior di farina e miele e olio furono il tuo cibo. Divenisti sempre più bella e giungesti fino ad essere regina.	13 And you were adorned with gold and silver, and you were clothed in fine linen, woven with many colors. You ate fine flour, and honey, and oil. And you became very beautiful. And you advanced to royal power.
14 La tua fama si diffuse fra le genti. La tua bellezza era perfetta. Ti avevo reso uno splendore. Oracolo del Signore Dio.	14 And your renown went forth among the Gentiles, because of your beauty. For you were perfected by my beauty, which I had placed upon you, says the Lord God.
15 Tu però, infatuata per la tua bellezza e approfittando della tua fama, ti sei prostituita, concedendo i tuoi favori a ogni passante.	15 But, having confidence in your own beauty, you fornicated in your fame. And you presented your fornication to every passer-by, so as to become his.
16 Prendesti i tuoi abiti per adornare a vari colori le alture su cui ti prostituivi.	16 And taking from your garments, you made for yourself exalted things, having sewed together disparate pieces. And you fornicated upon them, in a way that has not been done before, nor will be in the future.
17 Con i tuoi splendidi gioielli d’oro e d’argento, che io ti avevo dato, facesti immagini d’uomo, con cui ti sei prostituita.	17 And you took your beautiful items, made of my gold and my silver, which I gave to you, and you made for yourself images of men, and you fornicated with them.
18 Tu, inoltre, le adornasti con le tue vesti ricamate. A quelle immagini offristi il mio olio e i miei profumi.	18 And you used your multicolored vestments to cover these things. And you placed my oil and my incense before them.
19 Ponesti davanti ad esse come offerta di soave odore il pane che io ti avevo dato, il fior di farina, l’olio e il miele di cui ti nutrivo. Oracolo del Signore Dio.	19 And my bread, which I gave to you, the fine flour, and the oil, and the honey, by which I nourished you, you placed in their sight as a sweet fragrance. And so it was done, says the Lord God.
20 Prendesti i figli e le figlie che mi avevi generato e li offristi in cibo. Erano forse poca cosa le tue prostituzioni?	20 And you took your sons and your daughters, whom you bore for me, and you immolated them to be devoured. Is your fornication a small matter?
21 Immolasti i miei figli e li offristi a loro, facendoli passare per il fuoco.	21 You have immolated my sons, and you have consecrated and delivered my sons to them.
22 Fra tutti i tuoi abomini e le tue prostituzioni non ti ricordasti del tempo della tua giovinezza, quando eri nuda e ti dibattevi nel sangue!	22 And after all your abominations and fornications, you have not remembered the days of your youth, when you were naked and full of shame, wallowing in your own blood.
23 Dopo tutta la tua perversione – guai, guai a te! Oracolo del Signore Dio –	23 And it happened that, after all your wickedness, (woe, woe to you, says the Lord God)
24 ti sei fabbricata un giaciglio e costruita un’altura in ogni piazza.	24 you built for yourself a brothel, and you made for yourself a place of prostitution in every street.
25 A ogni crocicchio ti sei fatta un’altura, disonorando la tua bellezza, offrendo il tuo corpo a ogni passante e moltiplicando le tue prostituzioni.	25 At the head of every way, you set up a banner of your prostitution. And you caused your beauty to become abominable. And you distributed your feet to every passer-by. And you multiplied your fornications.
26 Hai concesso i tuoi favori ai figli d’Egitto, tuoi corpulenti vicini, e hai moltiplicato le tue infedeltà per irritarmi.	26 And you fornicated with the sons of Egypt, your neighbors, who have large bodies. And you multiplied your fornications, so as to provoke me.
27 A questo punto io ho steso la mano su di te. Ho ridotto il tuo cibo e ti ho abbandonato in potere delle tue nemiche, le figlie dei Filistei, che erano disgustate della tua condotta sfrontata.	27 Behold, I will extend my hand over you, and I will take away your justification. And I will give you to the souls of those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who are ashamed of your wicked way.
28 Non ancora sazia, hai concesso i tuoi favori agli Assiri. Non ancora sazia,	28 You also fornicated with the sons of the Assyrians, for you were not yet done. And after you fornicated, even then, you were not satisfied.
29 hai moltiplicato le tue infedeltà nel paese dei mercanti, in Caldea, e ancora non ti è bastato.	29 And you multiplied your fornications in the land of Canaan with the Chaldeans. And even then, you were not satisfied.
30 Com’è stato abietto il tuo cuore – oracolo del Signore Dio – facendo tutte queste azioni degne di una spudorata sgualdrina!	30 With what can I cleanse your heart, says the Lord God, since you do all these things, the works of a woman who is a shameless prostitute?
31 Quando ti costruivi un giaciglio a ogni crocevia e ti facevi un’altura in ogni piazza, tu non eri come una prostituta in cerca di guadagno,	31 For you have built your brothel at the head of every way, and you have made your exalted place on every street. And you have not even been like a choosy prostitute, increasing her price,
32 ma come un’adultera che, invece del marito, accoglie gli stranieri!	32 but instead like a woman who is an adulteress, who prefers strangers to her own husband.
33 A ogni prostituta si dà un compenso, ma tu hai dato il compenso a tutti i tuoi amanti e hai distribuito loro doni perché da ogni parte venissero a te, per le tue prostituzioni.	33 Wages are given to all prostitutes. But you have given wages to all your lovers, and you have given gifts to them, so that they would enter to you from every side, in order to fornicate with you.
34 Tu hai fatto il contrario delle altre donne, nelle tue prostituzioni: nessuno è corso dietro a te, mentre tu hai distribuito doni e non ne hai ricevuti, tanto eri pervertita.	34 And it is done with you, in your fornications, contrary to the custom of women, and even after you, there will be no such fornication. For in as much as you have given payment, and not taken payment, what has been done in you is the contrary.”
35 Perciò, o prostituta, ascolta la parola del Signore.	35 Because of this, O harlot, listen to the word of the Lord.
36 Così dice il Signore Dio: Per le tue ricchezze sperperate, per la tua nudità scoperta nelle tue prostituzioni con i tuoi amanti e con tutti i tuoi idoli abominevoli, per il sangue dei tuoi figli che hai offerto a loro,	36 Thus says the Lord God: “Because your money has been poured out, and your disgrace has been uncovered, in your fornications with your lovers and with the idols of your abominations, in the blood of your sons, whom you gave to them:
37 ecco, io radunerò da ogni parte tutti i tuoi amanti con i quali sei stata compiacente, coloro che hai amato insieme con coloro che hai odiato; li radunerò contro di te e ti metterò completamente nuda davanti a loro perché essi ti vedano tutta.	37 Behold, I will gather all your lovers, with whom you have united, and all those whom you have loved, together with all those whom you have hated. And I will gather them together against you on every side. And I will uncover your disgrace before them, and they will see all your indecency.
38 Ti infliggerò la condanna delle donne che commettono adulterio e spargono sangue, e riverserò su di te furore e gelosia.	38 And I will judge you with the judgment of adulteresses and of those who shed blood. And I will give you over to blood, in fury and in zeal.
39 Ti abbandonerò nelle loro mani e distruggeranno i tuoi giacigli, demoliranno le tue alture. Ti spoglieranno delle tue vesti e ti toglieranno i tuoi splendidi ornamenti: ti lasceranno scoperta e nuda.	39 And I will deliver you into their hands. And they will destroy your brothel and demolish your place of prostitution. And they will strip you of your vestments. And they will take away the ornaments of your beauty. And they will leave you behind, naked and full of disgrace.
40 Poi ecciteranno contro di te la folla, ti lapideranno e ti trafiggeranno con la spada.	40 And they will lead over you a multitude. And they will stone you with stones, and massacre you with their swords.
41 Incendieranno le tue case e sarà eseguita la sentenza contro di te sotto gli occhi di numerose donne. Ti farò smettere di prostituirti e non distribuirai più doni.	41 And they will burn up your houses with fire, and they will carry out judgments against you in the sight of many women. And you will cease from fornication, and no longer give payment.
42 Quando avrò sfogato il mio sdegno su di te, non sarò più geloso di te, mi calmerò e non mi adirerò più.	42 And my indignation will be quieted in you. And my zeal will be taken from you. And I will rest, and no longer be angry.
43 Per il fatto che tu non ti sei ricordata del tempo della tua giovinezza e mi hai provocato all’ira con tutte queste cose, adesso io ti farò pagare per le tue azioni – oracolo del Signore Dio – e non aggiungerai altre scelleratezze a tutti gli altri tuoi abomini.	43 For you have not remembered the days of your youth, and you have provoked me in all these things. Because of this, I also have delivered all your ways upon your head, says the Lord God, but I have not acted in accord with your wickedness in all your abominations.
44 Ecco, tutti quelli che usano proverbi diranno di te: “Quale la madre, tale la figlia”.	44 Behold, all who speak a common proverb will take this up against you, saying: ‘Like the mother, so also is her daughter.’
45 Tu sei degna figlia di tua madre, che ha abbandonato il marito e i suoi figli: tu sei sorella delle tue sorelle, che hanno abbandonato il marito e i loro figli. Vostra madre era un’Ittita e vostro padre un Amorreo.	45 You are your mother’s daughter, for she cast away her husband and her children. And you are the sister of your sisters, for they cast away their husbands and their children. Your mother was a Cethite, and your father was an Amorite.
46 Tua sorella maggiore è Samaria, che con le sue figlie abita alla tua sinistra. Tua sorella più piccola è Sòdoma, che con le sue figlie abita alla tua destra.	46 And your older sister is Samaria, she and her daughters are those who live to your left. But your younger sister, who lives to your right, is Sodom and her daughters.
47 Tu non soltanto hai seguito la loro condotta e agito secondo i loro costumi abominevoli, ma come se ciò fosse stato troppo poco, ti sei comportata peggio di loro in tutta la tua condotta.	47 But neither have you walked in their ways. For you have done only a little less compared to their wickedness. You have acted almost more wickedly, in all your ways, than they have acted.
48 Per la mia vita – oracolo del Signore Dio –, tua sorella Sòdoma e le sue figlie non fecero quanto hai fatto tu insieme alle tue figlie!	48 As I live, says the Lord God, your sister Sodom herself, and her daughters, have not done as you and your daughters have done.
49 Ecco, questa fu l’iniquità di tua sorella Sòdoma: essa e le sue figlie erano piene di superbia, ingordigia, ozio indolente. Non stesero però la mano contro il povero e l’indigente.	49 Behold, this was the iniquity of Sodom, your sister: arrogance, indulgence in bread and abundance, and the idleness of her and her daughters; and they did not reach out their hand to the needy and the poor.
50 Insuperbirono e commisero ciò che è abominevole dinanzi a me. Io le eliminai appena me ne accorsi.	50 And they were exalted, and they committed abominations before me. And so I took them away, just as you have seen.
51 Samaria non ha peccato la metà di quanto hai peccato tu. Tu hai moltiplicato i tuoi abomini più di queste tue sorelle, tanto da farle apparire giuste, in confronto con tutti gli abomini che hai commesso.	51 But Samaria has not committed even half of your sins. For you have exceeded them in your wickedness, and you have justified your sisters by all your abominations, which you have wrought.
52 Devi portare anche tu la tua umiliazione, perché hai fatto sembrare giuste le tue sorelle. Esse appaiono più giuste di te, perché i tuoi peccati superano i loro. Anche tu dunque, devi essere svergognata e portare la tua umiliazione, perché hai fatto sembrare giuste le tue sorelle.	52 Therefore, you also bear your shame, for you have exceeded your sisters with your sins, acting more wickedly than they did. So they have been justified above you. By this also, you are confounded, and you bear your disgrace, for you have justified your sisters.
53 Ma io cambierò le loro sorti: cambierò le sorti di Sòdoma e delle sue figlie, cambierò le sorti di Samaria e delle sue figlie; anche le tue sorti muterò di fronte a loro,	53 But I will convert and restore them, by converting Sodom with her daughters, and by converting Samaria and her daughters. And I will convert your return in their midst.
54 perché tu possa portare la tua umiliazione e tu senta vergogna di quanto hai fatto: questo le consolerà.	54 So may you bear your disgrace and be confounded over all that you have done, consoling them.
55 Tua sorella Sòdoma e le sue figlie torneranno al loro stato di prima. Samaria e le sue figlie torneranno al loro stato di prima. Anche tu e le tue figlie tornerete allo stato di prima.	55 And your sister Sodom and her daughters will return to their ancient state. And Samaria and her daughters will return to their ancient state. And you and your daughters will be returned to your ancient state.
56 Eppure tua sorella Sòdoma non era forse sulla tua bocca al tempo del tuo orgoglio,	56 Your sister Sodom was not heard from your mouth, then, in the day of your pride,
57 prima che fosse scoperta la tua malvagità, così come ora tu sei disprezzata dalle figlie di Aram e da tutte le figlie dei Filistei che sono intorno a te, le quali ti deridono da ogni parte?	57 before your malice was revealed, as it is at this time, with the reproach of the daughters of Syria and of all the daughters of Palestine, who surround you, who encircle you on every side.
58 Tu stai scontando la tua scelleratezza e i tuoi abomini. Oracolo del Signore Dio.	58 You have borne your wickedness and your disgrace, says the Lord God.”
59 Poiché così dice il Signore Dio: Io ho ricambiato a te quello che hai fatto tu, perché hai disprezzato il giuramento infrangendo l’alleanza.	59 For thus says the Lord God: “I will act toward you, just as you have despised the oath, so that you would make void the covenant.
60 Ma io mi ricorderò dell’alleanza conclusa con te al tempo della tua giovinezza e stabilirò con te un’alleanza eterna.	60 And I will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth. And I will raise up for you an everlasting covenant.
61 Allora ricorderai la tua condotta e ne sarai confusa, quando riceverai le tue sorelle maggiori insieme a quelle più piccole, che io darò a te per figlie, ma non in forza della tua alleanza.	61 And you shall remember your ways and be confounded, when you will have received your sisters, your elder with your younger. And I will give them to you as daughters, but not by your covenant.
62 Io stabilirò la mia alleanza con te e tu saprai che io sono il Signore,	62 And I will raise up my covenant with you. And you shall know that I am the Lord.
63 perché te ne ricordi e ti vergogni e, nella tua confusione, tu non apra più bocca, quando ti avrò perdonato quello che hai fatto». Oracolo del Signore Dio.	63 So may you remember and be confounded. And it will no longer be for you to open your mouth, because of your shame, when I will have been pacified toward you over all that you have done, says the Lord God.”
