1 Il malvagio fugge anche se nessuno lo insegue, mentre il giusto è sicuro come un giovane leone.	1 The wicked man flees although no one pursues him; but the just man, like a lion, feels sure of himself.
2 Quando un paese è in subbuglio sono molti i suoi capi, ma con un uomo intelligente e saggio l’ordine si mantiene.	2 If a land is rebellious, its princes will be many; but with a prudent man it knows security.
3 Un povero che opprime i miseri è come pioggia torrenziale che non porta pane.	3 A rich man who oppresses the poor is like a devastating rain that leaves no food.
4 Quelli che trasgrediscono la legge lodano il malvagio, quelli che la osservano gli si mettono contro.	4 Those who abandon the law praise the wicked man, but those who keep the law war against him.
5 I malvagi non comprendono la giustizia, ma quelli che cercano il Signore comprendono tutto.	5 Evil men understand nothing of justice, but those who seek the LORD understand all.
6 Meglio un povero dalla condotta integra che uno dai costumi perversi, anche se ricco.	6 Better a poor man who walks in his integrity than he who is crooked in his ways and rich.
7 Osserva la legge il figlio intelligente, chi frequenta gli ingordi disonora suo padre.	7 He who keeps the law is a wise son, but the gluttons' companion disgraces his father.
8 Chi accresce il patrimonio con l’usura e l’interesse, lo accumula per chi ha pietà dei miseri.	8 He who increases his wealth by interest and overcharge gathers it for him who is kind to the poor.
9 Chi allontana l’orecchio per non ascoltare la legge, persino la sua preghiera è spregevole.	9 When one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.
10 Chi fa deviare i giusti per la via del male, nel suo tranello lui stesso cadrà, mentre gli integri erediteranno il bene.	10 He who seduces the upright into an evil way will himself fall into his own pit. (And blameless men will gain prosperity.)
11 Il ricco si crede saggio, ma il povero intelligente lo valuta per quello che è.	11 The rich man is wise in his own eyes, but a poor man who is intelligent sees through him.
12 Grande è l’onore quando esultano i giusti, ma se prevalgono gli empi ognuno si dilegua.	12 When the just are triumphant, there is great jubilation; but when the wicked gain preeminence, people hide.
13 Chi nasconde le proprie colpe non avrà successo, chi le confessa e le abbandona troverà misericordia.	13 He who conceals his sins prospers not, but he who confesses and forsakes them obtains mercy.
14 Beato l’uomo che sempre teme, ma chi indurisce il cuore cadrà nel male.	14 Happy the man who is always on his guard; but he who hardens his heart will fall into evil.
15 Leone ruggente e orso affamato, tale è un cattivo governatore su un popolo povero.	15 Like a roaring lion or a ravenous bear is a wicked ruler over a poor people.
16 Un principe privo di senno moltiplica le angherie, ma chi odia il lucro prolungherà i suoi giorni.	16 The less prudent the prince, the more his deeds oppress. He who hates ill-gotten gain prolongs his days.
17 Un uomo che è perseguito per omicidio fuggirà fino alla tomba: non lo si trattenga!	17 Though a man burdened with human blood were to flee to the grave, none should support him.
18 Chi procede con rettitudine sarà salvato, chi va per vie tortuose cadrà all’improvviso.	18 He who walks uprightly is safe, but he whose ways are crooked falls into the pit.
19 Chi coltiva la sua terra si sazia di pane, chi insegue chimere si sazia di miseria.	19 He who cultivates his land will have plenty of food, but from idle pursuits a man has his fill of poverty.
20 L’uomo leale sarà colmo di benedizioni, chi ha fretta di arricchirsi non sarà esente da colpa.	20 The trustworthy man will be richly blessed; he who is in haste to grow rich will not go unpunished.
21 Non è bene essere parziali, ma per un tozzo di pane si può prevaricare.	21 To show partiality is never good: for even a morsel of bread a man may do wrong.
22 L’avaro è impaziente di arricchire, ma non pensa che gli piomberà addosso la miseria.	22 The avaricious man is perturbed about his wealth, and he knows not when want will come upon him.
23 Chi corregge un altro troverà alla fine più favore di chi ha una lingua adulatrice.	23 He who rebukes a man gets more thanks in the end than one with a flattering tongue.
24 Chi deruba il padre o la madre e dice: «Non è peccato», è simile a un assassino.	24 He who defrauds father or mother and calls it no sin, is a partner of the brigand.
25 L’avido suscita litigi, ma chi confida nel Signore sarà arricchito.	25 The greedy man stirs up disputes, but he who trusts in the LORD will prosper.
26 Chi confida nel suo senno è uno stolto, chi cammina nella saggezza sarà salvato.	26 He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is safe.
27 Per chi dona al povero non c’è indigenza, ma chi chiude gli occhi avrà grandi maledizioni.	27 He who gives to the poor suffers no want, but he who ignores them gets many a curse.
28 Se prevalgono i malvagi, tutti si nascondono; se essi periscono, dominano i giusti.	28 When the wicked gain pre-eminence, other men hide; but at their fall the just flourish.
