1 Un operaio ubriacone non arricchirà; chi disprezza il poco cadrà presto.	1 A drunken workman wil never grow rich, and one who makes light of small matters will gradual y sink.
2 Vino e donne traviano anche i saggi, ancor più temerario è chi frequenta prostitute.	2 Wine and women corrupt intel igent men, the customer of whores loses al sense of shame.
3 Tarli e vermi lo erediteranno, il temerario sarà eliminato.	3 Grubs and worms wil have him as their legacy, and the man who knows no shame will lose his life.
4 Chi si fida con troppa facilità è di animo leggero, chi pecca danneggia se stesso.	4 Being too ready to trust shows shal owness of mind, and sinning harms the sinner.
5 Chi si compiace del male sarà condannato;	5 Taking pleasure in evil earns condemnation;
6 chi odia la loquacità sfugge al male.	6 by hating gossip one avoids evil.
7 Non riferire mai una diceria e non ne avrai alcun danno;	7 Never repeat what you are told and you wil come to no harm;
8 non parlarne né all'amico né al nemico, e se puoi farlo senza colpa, non svelar nulla.	8 whether to friend or foe, do not talk about it, unless it would be sinful not to, do not reveal it;
9 Altrimenti chi ti ascolta diffiderà di te e all'occasione ti avrà in odio.	9 you would be heard out, then mistrusted, and in due course you would be hated.
10 Hai udito una parola? Muoia con te! Sta' sicuro, non ti farà scoppiare.	10 Have you heard something? Let it die with you. Courage! It wil not burst you!
11 Per una parola lo stolto ha i dolori, come la partoriente per un bambino.	11 A fool wil suffer birthpangs over a piece of news, like a woman labouring with child.
12 Una freccia confitta nella carne della coscia: tale una parola in seno allo stolto.	12 Like an arrow stuck in the flesh of the thigh, so is a piece of news inside a fool.
13 Interroga l'amico: forse non ha fatto nulla, e se qualcosa ha fatto, perché non continui più.	13 Question your friend, he may have done nothing at al ; and if he has done anything, he wil not do itagain.
14 Interroga il prossimo: forse non ha detto nulla, e se qualcosa ha detto, perché non lo ripeta.	14 Question your neighbour, he may have said nothing at al ; and if he has said anything, he wil not sayit again.
15 Interroga l'amico, perché spesso si tratta di calunnia; non credere a ogni parola.	15 Question your friend, for slander is very common, do not believe al you hear.
16 C'è chi sdrucciola, ma non di proposito; e chi non ha peccato con la sua lingua?	16 People sometimes make a slip, without meaning what they say; and which of us has never sinned byspeech?
17 Interroga il tuo prossimo, prima di minacciarlo; fa' intervenire la legge dell'Altissimo.	17 Question your neighbour before you threaten him, and defer to the Law of the Most High.
18 Tutta la sapienza è timore di Dio e in ogni sapienza è la pratica della legge.	18
19 Non c'è sapienza nella conoscenza del male; non è mai prudenza il consiglio dei peccatori.	19
20 V'è un'abilità che è abominevole, c'è uno stolto cui manca solo la saggezza.	20 Wisdom consists entirely in fearing the Lord, and wisdom is entirely constituted by the fulfil ing of theLaw.
21 Meglio uno di scarsa intelligenza ma timorato, che uno molto intelligente ma trasgressore della legge.	21
22 Esiste un'abilità scaltra, ma ingiusta; c'è chi intriga per prevalere in giudizio.	22 Being learned in evil, however, is not wisdom, there is no prudence in the advice of sinners.
23 C'è il malvagio curvo nella sua tristezza, ma il suo intimo è pieno di inganno;	23 There is a cleverness that is detestable; whoever has no wisdom is a fool.
24 abbassa il volto e finge di essere sordo, ma, quando non è osservato, avrà il sopravvento.	24 Better be short of sense and ful of fear, than abound in shrewdness and violate the Law.
25 E se per mancanza di forza gli è impedito di peccare, all'occasione propizia farà del male.	25 There is a wickedness which is scrupulous but nonetheless dishonest, and there are those whomisuse kindness to win their case.
26 Dall'aspetto si conosce l'uomo; dal volto si conosce l'uomo di senno.	26 There is the person who wil walk bowed down with grief, when inwardly this is nothing but deceit:
27 Il vestito di un uomo, la bocca sorridente e la sua andatura rivelano quello che è.	27 he hides his face and pretends to be deaf, if he is not unmasked, he wil take advantage of you.
	28 There is the person who is prevented from sinning by lack of strength, yet he wil do wrong when hegets the chance.
	29 You can tel a person by his appearance, you can tell a thinker by the look on his face.
	30 The way a person dresses, the way he laughs, the way he walks, tel you what he is.
