| 1 Saulo dunque, approvava il suo assassinio. In quell’occasione pertanto ci fu grande persecuzione contro la Chiesa di Gerusalemme; perciò la massima parte, ad eccezione degli apostoli, si videro costretti a disseminarsi per i paesi della Giudea e della Samaria. | 1 Now Saul was consenting to his execution.On that day, there broke out a severe persecution of the church in Jerusalem, and all were scattered throughout the countryside of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. |
| 2 Intanto Erefano fu seppellito a cura di persone pie che gli tributarono solenni onori funebri. | 2 Devout men buried Stephen and made a loud lament over him. |
| 3 Saulo intanto cercava di annientare la Chiesa e, entrando in ogni casa e trascinando via uomini e donne, li faceva incarcerare. | 3 Saul, meanwhile, was trying to destroy the church; entering house after house and dragging out men and women, he handed them over for imprisonment. |
| 4 Quelli dunque che erano stati dispersi annunziavano lungo il viaggio la Parola. | 4 Now those who had been scattered went about preaching the word. |
| 5 Filippo da parte sua scese in una città della Samaria e vi predicò agli abitanti il Messia. | 5 Thus Philip went down to (the) city of Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah to them. |
| 6 Corrispondevano le folle a ciò che Filippo diceva, tutti unanimemente, all’ascoltare e vedere i suoi continui miracoli. | 6 With one accord, the crowds paid attention to what was said by Philip when they heard it and saw the signs he was doing. |
| 7 Difatti da molti che erano posseduti le forze maligne uscivano con grandi urla; molti paralitici e zoppi furono guariti; | 7 For unclean spirits, crying out in a loud voice, came out of many possessed people, and many paralyzed and crippled people were cured. |
| 8 e fu gran gioia in quella città. | 8 There was great joy in that city. |
| 9 In essa era stato prima un certo Simone, che esercitava la magia, sbalordiva il popolo della Samaria e si spacciava pr un gran personaggio. | 9 A man named Simon used to practice magic in the city and astounded the people of Samaria, claiming to be someone great. |
| 10 A lui davano grande ascolto tutti, grandi e piccoli, dicendo: «Quest'uomo è Dio, quello che si dice Grande». | 10 All of them, from the least to the greatest, paid attention to him, saying, "This man is the 'Power of God' that is called 'Great.'" |
| 11 Gli davano dunque retta perché per molto tempo li aveva storditi con le sue magie. | 11 They paid attention to him because he had astounded them by his magic for a long time, |
| 12 Ma quando presero a credere a Filippo che annunziava il regno di Dio e il nome di Gesù Cristo, si battezzarono l’uno dopo l'altro uomini e donne. | 12 but once they began to believe Philip as he preached the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, men and women alike were baptized. |
| 13 Da parte sua Simone, abbracciò anche lui la fede e, fattosi battezzare, sì teneva continuamente a fianco di Filippo e, osservando i segni e i miracoli grandi che sì compivano, rimaneva stupefatto. | 13 Even Simon himself believed and, after being baptized, became devoted to Philip; and when he saw the signs and mighty deeds that were occurring, he was astounded. |
| 14 Gli apostoli presenti a Gerusalemme, avendo saputo che la Samaria aveva accolto l’evangelo, vi inviarono Pietro e Giovanni. | 14 Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, |
| 15 Essi quindi scesero e recitarono per loro un’orazione perché ricevessero lo Spirito Santo, | 15 who went down and prayed for them, that they might receive the holy Spirit, |
| 16 dato che fino allora non era disceso su nessuno di loro, ma erano soltanto battezzati nel nome del Signore Gesù. | 16 for it had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. |
| 17 Allora imposero loro le mani a uno a uno e così essi ricevettero lo Spirito Santo. | 17 Then they laid hands on them and they received the holy Spirit. |
| 18 Simone, quando vide che mediante l’imposizione delle mani degli apostoli veniva dato lo Spirito Santo, offrì loro del danaro, | 18 When Simon saw that the Spirit was conferred by the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money |
| 19 dicendo: «Date anche a me questo potere di conferir lo Spirito Santo a chiunque imporrò le mani». | 19 and said, "Give me this power too, so that anyone upon whom I lay my hands may receive the holy Spirit." |
| 20 Pietro gli rispose: «Alla perdizione tu e il tuo danaro! poiché hai creduto di ottenere il dono di Dio con l’oro. | 20 But Peter said to him, "May your money perish with you, because you thought that you could buy the gift of God with money. |
| 21 Non c'è per te porzione né parte in questa materia, dal momento che il tuo cuore non è retto davanti a Dio. | 21 You have no share or lot in this matter, for your heart is not upright before God. |
| 22 Pèntiti almeno di codesta malvagità e prega il Signore Gesù che ti perdoni possibilmente il pensiero della tua mente, | 22 Repent of this wickedness of yours and pray to the Lord that, if possible, your intention may be forgiven. |
| 23 perché io ti vedo schiavo di una passione perniciosa». | 23 For I see that you are filled with bitter gall and are in the bonds of iniquity." |
| 24 Rispose Simone: «Pregate voi per me il Signore che nulla mi accada di quanto mi avete detto». | 24 Simon said in reply, "Pray for me to the Lord, that nothing of what you have said may come upon me." |
| 25 Essi pertanto, dopo avere attestato ed posto l’evangelo di Gesù, rientrarono a Gerusalemme, evangelizzando in viaggio molte borgate della Samaria. | 25 So when they had testified and proclaimed the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem and preached the good news to many Samaritan villages. |
| 26 Più tardi un angelo del Signore parlò così a Filippo: «Su, va’ verso sud sulla strada che scende da Gerusalemme a Gaza, quella deserta». | 26 Then the angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, "Get up and head south on the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza, the desert route." |
| 27 Egli uscì e si mise in cammino. Ed ecco un eunuco etiope, ministro delle finanze di Candace regina d’Etiopia, il quale era stato a Gerusalemme in pellegrinaggio | 27 So he got up and set out. Now there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of the Candace, that is, the queen of the Ethiopians, in charge of her entire treasury, who had come to Jerusalem to worship, |
| 28 e ora faceva il viaggio di ritorno seduto sul suo cocchio e intento alla lettura del profeta Isaia. | 28 and was returning home. Seated in his chariot, he was reading the prophet Isaiah. |
| 29 Lo Spirito disse allora a Filippo: «Accòstati e segui da vicino questo cocchio». | 29 The Spirit said to Philip, "Go and join up with that chariot." |
| 30 Filippo corse vicino, sentì l’eunuco leggere il profeta Isaia e ‘gli domandò: «Comprendi davvero quel che leggi?» | 30 Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?" |
| 31 Rispose: «Purtroppo non è possibile senza uno che mi istruisca», e invitò Filippo a montare al suo fianco. | 31 He replied, "How can I, unless someone instructs me?" So he invited Philip to get in and sit with him. |
| 32 Ora il passo biblico che stava leggendo era il seguente: Come una pecora, al macello fu condotto; ma, come un agnello è muto davanti a chi lo tosa, così egli non apre la sua bocca. | 32 This was the scripture passage he was reading: "Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opened not his mouth. |
| 33 Con l’umiliazione si chiuse il suo processo: chi sarà in grado di descrivere i suoi contemporanei ? una volta che dal mondo vien tolta la sua vita. | 33 In (his) humiliation justice was denied him. Who will tell of his posterity? For his life is taken from the earth." |
| 34 Prese dunque la parola l’eunuco e disse a Filippo: «Ti prego, di chi il profeta dice questo? di se stesso o di un altro?» | 34 Then the eunuch said to Philip in reply, "I beg you, about whom is the prophet saying this? About himself, or about someone else?" |
| 35 Allora Filippo iniziò la conversazione e, prendendo lo spunto da questo passo biblico, gli annunziò Gesù. | 35 Then Philip opened his mouth and, beginning with this scripture passage, he proclaimed Jesus to him. |
| 36 Come viaggiavano per quella strada, arrivarono a un corso d’acqua. Dice l’eunuco: «Qui c’è acqua: che cosa si oppone al mio battesimo?» | 36 As they traveled along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "Look, there is water. What is to prevent my being baptized?" |

| 38 Fece fermare il cocchio ed entrambi, Filippo e l’eunuco, scesero in acqua e Filippo lo battezzò. | 38 Then he ordered the chariot to stop, and Philip and the eunuch both went down into the water, and he baptized him. |
| 39 Quando furono risaliti all’asciutto, lo Spirito di Dio rapì Filippo, e l’eunuco, che continuò il suo viaggio nel gaudio, non lo vide più. | 39 When they came out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, but continued on his way rejoicing. |
| 40 Filippo, dal canto suo, si trovò ad Azoto; poi annunziò l’evangelo lungo il viaggio a tutte le città finché giunse a Cesarea. | 40 Philip came to Azotus, and went about proclaiming the good news to all the towns until he reached Caesarea. |
