| 1 Allora mi fu rivolta la parola di Jahvè: | 1 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows, |
| 2 «Figlio dell’uomo, volgi la faccia verso i figli di Ammon e profetizza contro di loro; | 2 'Son of man, turn towards the Ammonites and prophesy against them. |
| 3 dirai dunque ai figli di Ammon: “Ascoltate a parola del Signore Jahvè: Così dice il Signore Jahvè: Poiché hai esclamato: Evviva! per il mio tempio perché veniva profanato, per il paese di Israele che era devastato e per la gente di Giuda che andava in deportazione, | 3 Say to the Ammonites, "Hear the word of the Lord Yahweh. The Lord Yahweh says this: "Since yougloated over my sanctuary when it was profaned, and over the land of Israel when it was ravaged, and over theHouse of Judah when it went into exile, |
| 4 perciò ecco, ti do in possesso ai figli dell’oriente; essi erigeranno in te i loro accampamenti, porranno in te le loro tende, mangeranno i tuoi frutti, berranno il tuo latte. | 4 I shal let the sons of the East take possession of you; they wil pitch their camps inside you, they wilmake their home in you. They will be the ones to eat your produce and drink your milk. |
| 5 Farò di Rabbat uno stallaggio di cammelli e della regione dei figli di Ammon un ovile per bestiame minuto. Saprete allora che io sono Jahvè”. | 5 I shal turn Rabbah into a camel yard and the towns of Ammon into sheepfolds. And so you wil knowthat I am Yahweh. |
| 6 Perché così dice il Signore Jahvè: “Poiché hai battuto le mani e pestato in terra i piedi e ti sei rallegrato del paese di Israele con tutto il trasporto dell’animo, | 6 "The Lord Yahweh says this: Since you have clapped your hands and danced for joy, ful of maliciousdelight at Israel's fate, |
| 7 ecco, stendo la mano contro di te per darti in preda alle genti, per sterminarti tra i popoli e farti scomparire tra le regioni. Ti annienterò e saprai che io sono Jahvè”». | 7 my hand wil be against you for this; I shall hand you over to be looted by the peoples, obliterate youas a nation and wipe you out as a country. I shal reduce you to nothing, and you wil know that I am Yahweh. |
| 8 Così dice il Signore Jahvè: «Poiché Moab e Seir hanno detto: “Eccola, la gente di Giuda è come tutte le altre, | 8 "The Lord Yahweh says this: "Since Moab and Seir have said: Look at the House of Judah; it is nodifferent from any other nation; |
| 9 ecco, apro l’altipiano di Moab così che rimanga senza città; senza le sue città orgoglio del paese in tutta la sua estensione: Bet-Hajeshimot, Baal-Maon, Kiriataim. | 9 very wel , I shall expose Moab's heights; its cities will no longer be cities throughout the land -- thejewels of the country, Beth-Jeshimoth, Baal-Meon and Kiriathaim. |
| 10 Lo do in possesso ai figli dell’oriente allo stesso modo dei figli di Ammon, perché questi più non siano ricordati tra i popoli. | 10 I shal let the sons of the East and the Ammonites take possession of them, so that they wil nolonger be remembered by the nations. |
| 11 Di Moab farò giustizia; sapranno che io sono Jahvè”». | 11 I shal bring Moab to justice, and they will know that I am Yahweh. |
| 12 Così dice il Signore Jahvè: «Poiché Edom ha agito con la gente di Giuda soddisfacendo la sua vendetta e si è reso gravemente colpevole vendicandosi di essi, | 12 "The Lord Yahweh says this: "Since Edom has taken revenge on the House of Judah and committedgreat crimes in doing so, |
| 13 perciò così dice il Signore Jahvè: “Stenderò la mano su Edom e vi sterminerò uomini e bestie, riducendolo un deserto; da Teman a Dedan cadranno di spada. | 13 very well, the Lord Yahweh says this: My hand wil be against Edom and denude it of human andanimal. I shal lay it waste, from Teman as far as Dedan they wil be put to the sword. |
| 14 Eseguirò la mia vendetta su Edom, per mezzo del mio popolo Israele che lo tratterà secondo la mia ira e il mio furore. Conosceranno così la mia vendetta”». Oracolo del Signore Jahvè. | 14 I shal take vengeance on Edom by means of my people Israel. They wil treat Edom as my angerand fury dictate, and they wil know this is my vengeance -- declares the Lord Yahweh. |
| 15 Così dice il Signore Jahvè: «Poiché i Filistei hanno agito soddisfacendo la loro vendetta con l’animo pieno di passione, distruggendo nel loro odio antico, | 15 "The Lord Yahweh says this, "Since the Philistines have acted in revenge and, motivated by malice,have taken revenge, doing their best to destroy because of their long-standing hatred, |
| 16 perciò così dice il Signore Jahvè: “Ecco, tendo la mano contro i Filistei, sterminando i Cherubini e facendo sparire il resto della costa del mare. | 16 very well, the Lord Yahweh says this: My hand wil be against the Philistines; I shal exterminate theCherethites and destroy the rest of the coastal peoples. |
| 17 Compirò in essi terribili vendette, castighi furenti; sapranno allora che io sono Jahvè, quando farò loro sentire la mia vendetta”». | 17 I shal perform frightful acts of vengeance and inflict furious punishments on them; and they will knowthat I am Yahweh, when I exact my vengeance on them." ' |
