1 Benedici Jahvè, anima mia: Dio mio, sei assai grande! Splendore e maestà hai rivestito,	1 Bless the LORD, my soul! LORD, my God, you are great indeed! You are clothed with majesty and glory,
2 ti abbellisci di luce come d’un manto! Stende i cieli come cortina,	2 robed in light as with a cloak. You spread out the heavens like a tent;
3 sopra le, acque imposta le loro camere superiori. Fa delle nubi suo cocchio, incede sulle ali del vento.	3 you raised your palace upon the waters. You make the clouds your chariot; you travel on the wings of the wind.
4 Fa suoi araldi i venti, suoi ministri il fuoco guizzante,	4 You make the winds your messengers; flaming fire, your ministers.
5 Fondò la terra sui suoi fondamenti, non vacillerà in eterno, mai!	5 You fixed the earth on its foundation, never to be moved.
6 L’abisso, come veste, la copre; sopra i monti: si fermano le acque.	6 The ocean covered it like a garment; above the mountains stood the waters.
7 Al tuo rabbuffo se ne fuggono, al fragore del tuo tuono paventano.	7 At your roar they took flight; at the sound of your thunder they fled.
8 Salgono i monti, scendono le valli al posto che fissasti per esse.	8 They rushed up the mountains, down the valleys to the place you had fixed for them.
9 Un limite hai posto: non lo varcheranno, non torneranno a coprire la terra.	9 You set a limit they cannot pass; never again will they cover the earth.
10 Fai erompere le fonti nei rivi, tra i monti scorrono:	10 You made springs flow into channels that wind among the mountains.
11 abbeverano tutte le bestie selvatiche, le zebre vi spengono la loro sete,	11 They give drink to every beast of the field; here wild asses quench their thirst.
12 Lungo essi gli uccelli dei cieli si posano, tra le fronde lanciano i trilli.	12 Beside them the birds of heaven nest; among the branches they sing.
13 Irrora i monti dalle sue camere superiori, per lo stillare dei tuoi cieli si sazia la terra,	13 You water the mountains from your palace; by your labor the earth abounds.
14 Fa germogliare fieno per i giumenti, l’erba per le bestie da lavoro dell’uomo. Per trarre pane dal suolo	14 You raise grass for the cattle and plants for our beasts of burden. You bring bread from the earth,
15 e vino che allieta il cuore dell’uomo. Per rendere splendidi i volti, l’olio e pane che sostenta il cuore dell’uomo.	15 and wine to gladden our hearts, Oil to make our faces gleam, food to build our strength.
16 Si saziano le piante divine, i cedri del Libano che piantò,	16 The trees of the LORD drink their fill, the cedars of Lebanon, which you planted.
17 sui quali gli uccelli fanno i nidi e la pia ha per dimora i cipressi.	17 There the birds build their nests; junipers are the home of the stork.
18 I monti eccelsi sono per i cervi, le rocce rifugio agli iraci.	18 The high mountains are for wild goats; the rocky cliffs, a refuge for badgers.
19 Fece la luna per le stagioni, il sole conobbe il suo tramonto.	19 You made the moon to mark the seasons, the sun that knows the hour of its setting.
20 Adagi le tenebre, si fa notte: in essa striscia ogni fiera di selva.	20 You bring darkness and night falls, then all the beasts of the forest roam abroad.
21 I leoncelli che ruggono a preda per chiedere a Dio il loro pasto.	21 Young lions roar for prey; they seek their food from God.
22 Spunta il sole: si ritraggono, si acquattano nei loro covili.	22 When the sun rises, they steal away and rest in their dens.
23 Esce allora l’uomo alla sua opera e alla sua fatica fino a sera.	23 People go forth to their work, to their labor till evening falls.
24 Quanto grandi sono le tue opere, Jahvè, le hai fatte tutte con sapienza, piena è la terra delle tue creature!	24 How varied are your works, LORD! In wisdom you have wrought them all; the earth is full of your creatures.
25 Questo mare grande e disteso dove sono rettili e senza numero animali piccoli e grandi.	25 Look at the sea, great and wide! It teems with countless beings, living things both large and small.
26 Dove se ne vanno le navi, il Leviatan che plasmasti a sollazzo.	26 Here ships ply their course; here Leviathan, your creature, plays.
27 Essi tutti sperano in te, che tu dia loro cibo a suo tempo.	27 All of these look to you to give them food in due time.
28 Di loro, essi raccolgono; apri il tuo pugno, si saziano di beni;	28 When you give to them, they gather; when you open your hand, they are well filled.
29 nascondi il tuo volto, restano sgomenti; ritrai il loro spirito, muoiono e tornano alla loro polvere;	29 When you hide your face, they are lost. When you take away their breath, they perish and return to the dust from which they came.
30 mandi il tuo spirito, vengono creati e rinnovi la faccia della terra.	30 When you send forth your breath, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth.
31 Sia la gloria di Jahvè in eterno, si allieti Jahvè nelle sue opere!	31 May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD be glad in these works!
32 Egli che guarda la terra ed essa trema, tocca i monti e fumano!	32 If God glares at the earth, it trembles; if God touches the mountains, they smoke!
33 Canterò a Jahvè per tutta la vita, inneggerò al mio Dio finché sarò.	33 I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God while I live.
34 Dolce gli torni il mio carme; io mi allieterò in Jahvè.	34 May my theme be pleasing to God; I will rejoice in the LORD.
35 Siano distrutti i peccatori dalla terra e i malvagi non esistano più! Benedici Jahvè, anima mia. Alleluia!	35 May sinners vanish from the earth, and the wicked be no more. Bless the LORD, my soul! Hallelujah!
